Hi all New member in Wyoming

Welcome, contact me if you need assistance.

Welcome aboard Matt. Please tell us a little more about yourself as it relates to hunting. Things like what have you hunted previously? What kind and caliber rifles do you own? Do you reload? What are you planning to hunt in Africa? Will you be going with a buddy or by yourself? We are not nosy, but we'd like to see where you are coming from if you get my drift.

Welcome to AH, enjoy the site and ask lots of questions. You only have one first safari and planning it is half the fun.

Welcome to AH Matt. Africa is addictive. A lot of great info here.
I hunted pronghorn in Wright, WY, south of Gillette. Wish I had hunted WY more.

Great questions! Happy to expound:

Previously hunted only locally: Elk, deer, ducks/geese, grouse, etc. Drew a bison tag this year so super excited about that -- wish me luck for then end of this month! More than anything else these days is backcountry hunting on horseback and focused on elk and deer. Want to go for pronghorn sometime if I can manage to draw a tag.

Rifles: Multiple, but apparently not the right ones for Africa! I go from 22lr to 338 wm. I'm sure my elk rifles will be fine for plains game, but looking to pick up something heavier as well. Current preference is for 375H&H, but we'll see. I do reload as well.

Africa plans - where: Looking at 2020 by myself and more than likely Tanzania. Zambia would likely be second choice. I've been to Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe before (though I wasn't hunting), so I figured it would be cool to see another part of the continent. Also like the idea of more traditional safari / tented camp / as-close-as I-can-get(afford)-to-Hemingway/Roosevelt-experience.

Africa plans -what: Planning solo trip at this point. Super excited to try for leopard and buffalo on first trip! Maybe I'll get super lucky and add a sable in the bag.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

Welcome to AH ! If I can be of any assistance let us know , we would be glad to work up a quote for you.

Matt, your preference for a 375 H&H would not be questioned by anyone. However keep reading AH especially those articles and threads dealing /talking about the 404 Jeffery. That caliber is just plain AWSOME. The problem is availability. BUT the CEO of Montana Rifles has gone on record stating that they will be offering them next year. I think in response to pressure and suggestions from the guys on AH. I dropped a big Eland in its' tracks last July with my 404 Jeff. Since I have two sons I'm looking to purchase a second so both will be equally well armed at some point in the future. The beauty of the 404 Jeffery is that it hits like a 416 Rigby and feels like a 375 H&H.

Hi Matt , I am just over in Bozeman Mt. Welcome!
I am taking my 30 year old son on my 2nd trip to Africa in June of 2019 for 10 days.
Am going to hunt two 20,000 acre properties with Ernest Dyason of Spear Safaris.
Any questions feel free!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
