Hunting reports
Africa
2
I’m considering going to Africa this year. I see allot of specials being offered and hear rates are good due to Covid and a decline in hunters traveling the last two years.

With that said I’ve never been and it’s overwhelming trying to plan a quality trip. I’m wanting to hunt plains game, An outfitter that specializes in archery capable stalking hunts would be a plus. Primary animals on my list are Kudu and Zebra but would like a package to shoot 7-10 animals depending on pricing. I am also bringing my GF which I would like to have her harvest a couple animals as well.

Any recommendations on outfitters, areas or anything else related would be helpful. Generally I plan my hunts out a year or longer but I’ve been delayed on a New Zealand trip that has been booked for two years but border restrictions have not allowed travel. So I’m looking to fill a gap and Africa may be the ticket. Wanting to hunt in July off 2022 if possible. I also have another 2 hunters possibly interested so may be able to secure 4 hunters for a good opportunity.

Welcome we will be glad to help.

This is a good place to start for sure.

Although I'm not sure the "rates" are any better this year. Seems that people that have pushed past two years are still trying to get their delayed trips in as well as the new bookings. I guess we'll know more around May if outfits start dropping rates significantly.

Please don't misunderstand what I'm about to say but likely you will be looking for a larger, mass booking place if you are wanting 12+ animals shared by two BOW hunting clients. These places make sure there are plenty of animals available and do well in bow hunting situations. That also means they are probably a bit of a put and take operation, which I have no problem with but I think you need to be aware of that up front.
I'm sure there are other places that don't for the description I gave that might fit your bill but it will take some real digging to find them.

Good luck and let us know who you end up with along with a fabulous report.

Welcome to the site!
I can certainly help you with an archery hunt. I am currently in the USA and can give you a call if you'd like. Alternatively please pop me an email. Info@spearsafaris.com
Hope to hear from you!

We would be happy to help you

I have sent you a pm

Thanks for reaching out. The Eastern Cape can be a tough but adventurous place to walk and stalk with a bow. I'm sure you will love the mountains, savannahs, plains and the variety of what the Eastern Cape Karoo can offer. Our lodge is perfect for hunters and couples to hunt and vacation together. My wife, Lindsay, is always in camp and would love to show your GF some of the local attractions if she'd like to take some time off from hunting. We're a family run and actively managed outfit and am confident you will have a memorable time with us. Have a look at our website and please feel free to message me, also happy to give you a call at a time that suits you

I highly recommend Marius with @KMG Hunting Safaris for stalking with a bow.

Although with rifle. I've stalked through the bushes with bossie up to bow ranges a few times. He can be very sneaky when he needs to be;)

Tell us a little bit of what you want to do and we will be better able to help. I have a fair bit of experience on remote hunts for buffalo, not so much on plains game. Others will have great ideas on plains game or cats. We are all happy to help you spend your money.

I would give a look at Bushman Safaris up in Limpopo. Been a bow only place since 1986, 22k acres. Not cheap but hard to argue with their success! Anyways I’m sure there references can tell you what you need to know. Good luck.

@Mnovak
I guess the only advice that I would have is to hunt with a PH who is an avid bow hunter himself. Bow hunters are wired differently and it goes far beyond just sitting in a blind. When things go wrong, you will be looking for advice from someone with experience in bow hunting. Someone looking at your form, or picking up tiny mistakes that creep into us sometimes. This is something you are simply not going to get from a Rifle Only PH.

All the best with your research,
Take Care,
Marius Goosen

Good Day Mnovak

Yes its will seem a bit overwhelming at first but luckily you have this great forum to tap into and get very advice.

Great people and great Outfits on here that would make your first safari to Africa a memorable one.

You are most welcome to chat to us here at Tsala Hunting Safaris. We successfully host a few bow hunters each year.

I will be coming to the US in a few days and would be happy to chat some more about what we have to offer.

Regards

Rouan

For your lady consider leaving your bows or riflen in South Africa and doing a quick side trip up to Victoria Falls, three days is enough. You can do lots of extreme things, or just the sedate activities. It is a special place.

Good day sir,

Fantastic to hear you are hopefully heading our way this year! Nothing beats your first time in Africa! We run a safari company that does both Rifle and Bow hunting however we (Dempsey and Michael) are passionate in both aspects and bowhunters ourselves. Thus we understand what is needed to get the job done with a bow on safari. Including some walk and stalk.

We would live to earn your business and hope to see you at our campfire in 2022! We will send you a DM.

Kind regards,
Dempsey Bayly & Michael Sippel

I should add my primary target animals would be greater kudu, sable and zebra of any type. Other plains game such as Impala, and other antelope type species. No dangerous game on this trip as I hear once you go you’ll want to go again and again.
Should I target outfitters in a certain region for these types animals? Free State, Limpopo etc? Looking for guidance from people with experience. I’ve noticed most outfitters pricing is competitive with one another and all seem to be willing to put reduced priced pancakes together. I am looking for a quality trip and experience. Thanks for all the help!

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
