I am just about to start my Safari Season in Africa within a few days and just wanted to give everyone a preview of the hunts that are about to come. My wife and I will be starting in the East Cape for 10 days and then to the Selous area of Tanzania for 14 days. Joining us on this adventure are a father/son combo who are good friends and first timers to Africa. For this hunt we will be taking 2 Blaser R8's in 458 Lott, 375 H&H, and 300 Win Mag.
All the fun Starts with our British Airways flight on Sunday night so wish us luck and we will bring you along for the ride with plenty of Photos.
Cheers!

Hope your travel goes smoothly and y’all have a great time on safari. Looking forward to reading all about this adventure.

Safe travels, looking forward to the hunt report, sounds like a good journey is planned

Safe travels and straight shooting to yall! Looking forward to the pictures/report.

Nothing better than taking friends to Africa for the first time. May be the best part of the safari. Looking forward to the hunt reports

Good luck! Sounds like a great trip ahead of you!

Good Luck and Safe Travels.

I did the British Flight from Houston to London and then to Johannesburg back in May. Keep your initial check-in form, or I think as they call it a "Surrender of Firearms Form". Coming back they tried to say I wasn't approved for Firearms and having this helped expedite everything. If you haven't already gotten approval, you'll need to keep calling British Airways. You need to do it at least 72 hours in advance but they won't let you do it more than 4 or 5 days out. Each customer service rep on the phone seems to have a different understanding. One customer service rep told me I needed to do it at exactly 72 hours, not before or after. I asked how that would work since they were closed then? Called back 2 hours later, got someone else and it was submitted and approved.

Can’t wait! Knock ‘em dead!

Sounds wonderful. I’ve been home from Africa only 5 days and I miss it! Good luck, safe travels and shoot straight!

Sounds like lots of fun! Looking forward to following along with you

Who are you hunting with in the Selous? Which unit? I’ll be landing in MA1 on August 22nd, with my son and a long time friend who is joining us on his first African hunt, at 79 years old! 2 Cape Buffalo and some plains game for him.

Not sure yet as we want to keep our options open as to what was the “hot area” at the time we showed up. I believe it will be either M1 or R1 in the Selous.
On a side note…here is the first layout of 2 rifles, 3 barrels, and 3 scopes for the case.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
