Hi
I am going on my first African hunting safari in October with Huntershill in the Eastern Cape. As it's my first I'll be after cull plains game (impala springbuck, wildebeest etc.) I have been to Africa before but on photographic safaris (last Christmas in the Kruger which was fantastic) with the family and we all loved it.

I have been shooting for nearly 30 years and deerstalking is my main sport. I stalk for roe and sika on the low ground (in the North of England) and red deer in the hills there and in Scotland.

I'm from Scotland but live and work in England, mainly London.

Nick

Hello and welcome to AH Nick! Enjoy your safari this year! Please post a report and pictures once you get back.

welcome to AH sir.

Welcome to AH Nick. You will find this site addicting. Here you can get any and all hunting related questions answered by folks that have "been there and done that." Do you own your own rifle or are you going to rent one from your outfitter? What caliber?

Welcome to AH Nick! A cull hunt can be as exciting and challenging as a trophy hunt. Hope you will share your experience with us upon your return.

Welcome and good luck on your cull hunt.

Thanks to all for the welcome messages. As it is my first trip I am going to rent a rifle from the outfitter. Not sure what calibre but I know my friends who go there use 30.06 as it's quite open and thus a flatish calibre for longish shots. I have mainly used .243, .270 and .308 here in the UK for deer but now almost exclusively use a sako 85 in 6.5x55 for all of my stalking. I have recently ventured in to 'dialing in' and bought a Schmidt & Bender PM.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
