Hello everyone,

I’m new to the forum and to the world of safaris. I'm a lifelong hunter from Montana, and I’m planning to take my family of four (with kids aged 14 and 12) on a trip that includes hunting, sightseeing, and experiencing local culture. We’re mostly interested in hunting plains game.

I would appreciate any feedback on which countries to visit and recommendations for outfitters. I have the opportunity to purchase a safari package with Theron Safaris, who seem great and reputable. However, my only concern is that the hunt is being arranged through Charity Safaris, and I recently came across some concerning information about the manager there.

I’m not wealthy, so the price point is what initially attracted me, but I want to ensure that we have a fantastic experience as a family. Thank you for any advice you can offer!

Talk to Tsala safaris. Family owned and operated. Good people that will take good care of you at a reasonable price. Plenty of hunt reports on here about them.

:S Welcome: to AH

Email Gary Duckworth of Makore Safaris and take your family to the Save in Zimbabwe.

Thank you I will check out both Tsala and Makore…not gonna lie it’s a little daunting planning the first safari and this info is helping make it easier!

We will also be a perfect match for what you are looking for.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

I think the best thing about participating in the Africa Hunting dot com forums is the means to "Gather your intelligence locally". By locally in this example I mean directly from those who have "been there, done that".

Personally, I gather information from posts on AH and if very curious, I send an AH Direct Message (DM) to the poster and ask to have a phone conversation. During this week past, I spent two hours talking to a new AH friend, and almost an hour each taking to two other members. Using the What's App application, I can converse with persons in Africa, Europe, or anywhere else free of charge.

The above stated, I have hunted @Tally-Ho HUNTING SAFARIS twice. The first time was so good that I asked the owner Stuart Williams if he would coordinate a CBL lion hunt for me in the Kalahari to be followed my traveling to his Safari ranch/area in Limpopo. TO further complicate this, I arranged for Stuart to accommodate not only my wife, but her sister from Johannesburg and her husband and two children. The two hunt reports are posted via the following links,

My wife wanted to pose as a hunter...

Of those operators (outfitters in USA grammar) mentioned above posts, my wife and I had a great conversation with the AH Sponsor De Klerk father and son ( @DE KLERK SAFARIS ) at DSC 2024 convention. Somewhere on AH @DE KLERK SAFARIS posted photos and descriptions on their new 4 or 5-Star lodgings. Can't get your wife to accompany you to Africa, show her those photos! Maybe our @DE KLERK SAFARIS will post those photos on this thread?

I would definitely hunt with them. Also, this morning I read of an outstanding elephant hunt with @TSALA HUNTING SAFARIS experienced by @eyedok and his wife.

I've read but haven't verified there are approximately 7,000 safari operators in South Africa. Undoubtedly there are a few bad ones in that group. Monthly we read on AH of an auction hunt in South Africa where the lucky winner had a few problems. I can assure you that Stuart of @Tally-Ho HUNTING SAFARIS will communicate with you before, during, and after the safari. Stuart has other businesses and knows that happy clients return and bring their families and tell their friends of how great an experience they had. For this, it is three years after my sister-in-law's children received an education about the benefits of hunting at @Tally-Ho HUNTING SAFARIS and they are very quick to tell their friends and teachers about "the animals" and how the meat is given to the local orphanage.

I very much wish this photo was in focus!

Good day sir, I can offer you this.
Did send you a message.

I highly recommend Phillip Hennings. He owns Khomas Highlands Safaris. I have taken my family there several times. Lots of free range plains game, great accommodation, great food, super nice staff, in a safe and stable country. What more could you want.
Appreciate this info and i will look into this

Welcome to AfricaHunting!

We’d be glad to help you plan a safari that suits your whole family. As a family-owned and family-driven outfitter, we know how important it is that everyone — hunters and non-hunters alike — has a memorable experience. We can easily structure a hunt that combines great plains game hunting with sightseeing and cultural activities your family will love.

Hello @Flanders357

I took my family (wife and 3 kids aged 14, 10 and 9) to Namibia in 2009 and then went back in 2014. Both times we hunted with Kalahari Safaris in Gobabis Namibia and our on second trip we combined the hunting with sightseeing and cultural experiences just as you are looking to do. They are a family owned safari company and specialize in family hunts. They offer very good pricing and Janneman and Aldalene Brand we take great care of you. I can highly recommend them.

There are many great outfitters to go with. I. Sure you will find one. Check out the hunt reports section on here. I know I have reported on 3 of my different outfitters in that section. If budget is a key aspect you will end up hunting in south Africa or Namibia. I would like to recommend adding 3-5 days and going to Victoria falls. There is so much for families to do there and in chobe.

Have sent you a dm sir

We did South Africa in 2024 - and are planning to go back in 2026 and take our 9 and 10 year old. We have a great experience with Bos en Dal Safaris and are headed there again. They have a super economical package and have their own kids that age which makes it a great experience for families. We’re also from Montana and would also chat directly with you on our experiences!

Welcome to the forum

We have some great options for you to explore. I sent you a DM.
