New member - No safari experience

Hi guys,

New member from Australia. I've read a lot of advice on this forum over the last year but have never posted, but thought it was time. This forum is such a great resource.

I have never hunted outside Australia, and the biggest animal I have hunted is deer. I've always had a desire to hunt in Africa, over the last year I've purchased two big bore rifles. They are nothing special, but I love shooting them, and that's all that matters to me. I have a Ruger No 1 450/400, and a custom Weatherby L/H 404 Jeffery. I load my own, and love using the rifles with reduced loads for deer. I feel the more trigger time behind the rifles the better.

Anyway, once again thanks for a great resource of information.

I have attached some pictures of my rifles. As I said, nothing special but I'm sure they'll get the job done if I do my part.

What is your budget?

For a great mid priced scope I suggest a Leopold VX 6 firedot 4. Great glass for the money. Trijicon has some nice options as well. Get something that goes down to 1 or 1.5 x for that close in elephant, buffalo, and lion hunt, and an illuminated reticle for the Leopard, and at least 4 power but up to 6 will let you dial up plenty of power for a longer shot at Plains Game. For half the money you can get a Leopold VXR 1-4.
