Looking to re-scope several rifles, seeking input

I am a night force guy on most of my working rifles the only other brand I trust is Trijicon in your price range and style I would be looking at the credo hard from them or some of the accupoints. I’m from the school that the scope should cost as much as the rifle for it to be a good pair. Actually some of the most accurate base rifles the scope will be more

Meopta and Athlon are both good quality scopes. The Athlons tend to be on the heavier end of the scale but I have found them to be pretty bullet proof. The Meoptas are similar but with better glass in my opinion.

Greetings Linkerman,

My dirty little secret is that fixed power scopes being out of style with today’s “Gadget Generation” are easy to find at gun shows and within internet web sites.
And, purchased used but even when in excellent condition are typically less expensive (often about 3/4 less) than all these newest multi-feature, often huge, heavy and overly powerful scopes so popular today.

Now at age 73, I suspect that I possibly may have taken approximately 200 hoofed game animals.
Yet, not once after I had fired that all important first shot at whatever species, have I said to myself —> “Dang, I wish I could have spent an extra moment twisting the variable power adjustment ring on my scope, instead of simply firing this shot”.

And so, if you can endure the shame that I live with every day from being seen with fixed power rifle scopes (sometimes no scope at all) :ROFLMAO:, indeed you will save a lot of money.
And, if you practice quite often (year ‘round), then no matter what equipment you choose, more than likely you will also continue to enjoy success in your hunting efforts.

Best Regards,
Velo Fudd.

Trijicon Huron and Accupoint are the best options in that price bracket if you don't want a big tactical knob twisting getup.
I love the simplicity and quality of the Hurons.

I should point out that it seems like the published eye relief on the Hurons is under-stated. So, if you were concerned about eye relief from the numbers Trijicon provides, you may be pleasantly surprised. I think it's something to do with different manufacturers using different methods for measuring eye relief, and Trijicon seems to use a strict definition where the eye relief is optimal at a certain number, but many people including me find it ok a bit farther out from the ocular.

For comparison, I have always found Leupold eye relief to be pretty much exactly as advertised. From a sample of only one, I felt like the Swaro Z3 3-9x36 had shorter than advertised eye relief, at least as I perceived it. Overall it seems like there is some variability in how manufacturers measure eye relief and in how individuals perceive it. Just covering myself in case you happen buy a Huron and hate the eye relief...

I have been pleased with my Burris Fullfield 2. Great scope for the price point.

I have several rifles that I am looking to upgrade optics on, traditional wood/blued steel hunting rifles. I have multiple Zeiss and Leupold scopes, love them and have served me well. The fact is that I can not afford the investment to go the Leupold/Zeiss route at this time. I know that searching the auction sites looking for deals is always an option but lack the patients and time to continuously search. Not a tactical guy, zero scope, put the cap on and forget about it. I am looking for the best quality $400-$700 scopes for hunting rifles, all shots 300 yards and under. I have been intrigued by; Meopta, Hawke and Athlon specifically (Ilike to be a little different). I would appreciate input on the three specific brands that I have mentioned. Thank you.
I’m not a fan of the glass in Hawke optics. The Meopta would be superior in quality, and the construction is fairly robust.

Vortex has a good line for several budgets
I wouldn’t trust a Vortex product to watch cat videos on YT.

@Linkerman - In your price range, the best available are Trijicon and Leupold. Personally, I’d choose Trijicon first every time because there have been several complaints about recent production Leupold scopes. Best of luck to you.

I just bought the newly released 1-8x version of the Trijicon Accupoint and have been very happy with it. I think it was $1200 all-in on Eurooptic. You can get the 1-6x Accupoint within your budget.

Very happy with the amber triangle reticle

Thank you guys for all of the input, it provided me with hours of reading and research. Over the last 5 years or so I have all but given up on attending gun shows. Not much there anymore unless you are an AR or pistol guy, never much at all in the line of rifles or shotguns that catch my eye. The weather today here in Texas has been raining off an on and prevented me from making any real plans around the ranch (or maybe I just wanted to be lazy). Anyhow, I saw that there was a gun show in San Antonio and decided why not… I drove into town, paid my $15.00 for entry and started making the rounds. Had just about seen it all and about to call it when I stumbled across one of the back row tables. There was an older gentleman with a table of various items and a few scopes. Ended up picking a like new Leupold VX-R 3-9x40 30mm tube Firedot and a Nikon Monarch UCC 3.3-10x44 AO 1 inch tube scope, both as brand new minus boxes and both for the price point at which I was looking to pay for ONE second tier scope. All in it was a good day.

No, definently not getting rid of my Zeiss and Leupolds. Looking to rescope; removing various older Weaver, Tasco and Redfield scopes with not so clear glass and poor btightness compared to todays scopes.
I will go against the grain here and say you may wish to consider just keeping your old scopes in place, assuming they don’t have any overt problems to speak of. While many new scopes may have improved brightness, they often don’t seem to have the proven durability that the older ones generally do. In order to ensure reliability in a new scope these days, it seems that one must be willing to spend a small fortune. If your old scopes could see 300 yards to kill a deer or antelope 30 years ago, they can do it today. I’d spend my money on something else if I were you.

SWFA 3-9 HD SS is back in stock today. For $540 you won't find a scope with better glass or can pass the full drop test on **NOT**PERMITTED**.

Amen!

You can find used Leupolds on eBay 1x4, 2x7 and 2.5x8 within your price range simple scopes not much you cannot do within those magnification ranges
You just have to make sure they are real Leupold's and not cheap copies.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
