Greetings from SW Alaska

Welcome, you picked a great place to start your journey to Africa. Good luck in your search.

Welcomr welcome welcome

Welcome to our forum Terry. Have visited your state three times, but never hunted there. Should have done so when I was much younger. Good luck with your African hunt for you and your daughter. You will love it there!

My apologies in advance if I am misinterpreting your meaning but it comes off as a veiled shot with a very negative inference to hunting with an outfitter who has high fence properties. I personally would have loved to have taken my family to hunt "un-spoilt" Africa, but the cost and added expenses of connecting flights and adding in extra travel days was way out of my budget. If it was not for the options that were offered in South Africa, we would have never had the chance to have done a family safari at all. Africa in general is an amazing destination with lots of options for almost any budget. No need in my opinion to slight one over the other. I'm sure you operate a wonderful outfit and the best of luck in your endeavors. If I ever hit the lottery, I will be in touch.

@BSO Dave, you are definitely misinterpreting my meaning! There is no "veiled slight" in what I said and the fact that any hunter would choose to hunt a fenced area is 100% his own personal choice. As I said to Tundra Tiger, he has the whole spectrum to choose from and budget is of course a big factor in making a decision. I would also be happy to have this debate on another platform but in the meanwhile wanted to give Tundra Tiger a picture of what to expect and more importantly welcome him to the forum.

Hi Terri
You mention that you are a avid Bow hunter. I see that as a perfect way to combine your and your daughters hunt.
You can hunt together from a Bow blind, and if a desirable animal comes in for Her, she can always take the shot with a small caliber rifle, under controlled and calm circumstances, at least maybe for the first animal.
Once the ice is broken we could Hunt on a stalk basis in the early mornings with her as the focus hunter and then sit at Water holes with you as focus with the Bow during the heat of the day . That way both of you share in one another's experiences.
I would love to chat more via email if this interests you. info@spearsafaris.com.
You would also be the only hunters in camp, so one on one focus on you and your daughter.
Cheers Ernest

No need for continued debate on this. As I said, my apologies if your meaning was misinterpreted. I just can't figure why you would need to mention that one would need to "get their head around" hunting a high fence property, or inferring that any destination besides yours is not a real or "unspoilt" Africa as you put it? You may not have intended offense, but that's how I read it.... Anyway, you are free to promote your outfit as you see fit. Best of luck to you sir!

Hi Terry.
Welcome to AH!
We are a safari company in Namibia, and we take pride in hosting families in our camps.
We have several hunting areas over Namibia, but the destination that will best fit your needs, is our camp called Panorama.
Panorama is over 200,000 acres, and there are plenty of plainsgame species in very healthy numbers and great trophies.
Your daughter will have the opportunity to help us cull animals during the hunt, when not hunting for trophy animals.
You are welcome to email us at info@jamyhunt.com if you would like more information.

Kind Regards,
Kirsten

Welcome aboard!!

Good Day Terry.

Welcome to AH.

Having 2 daughters of my own I know what precious and amazing time that would be hunting with your daughter, especially in Africa.

There are great Outfitters here on AH that would make your safari memorable. Please also consider Tsala Safaris. We do specialise in family and friends safaris and take some time to read members feed back on us.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need any info.

Regards

Rouan

Welcome to AH, for bang for your buck, and family orientated hunting South Africa and Namibia will be the best, For bow hunting I would say South Africa, has the best facility's and greater animal populations and variety. Good luck and hope to see you in the USA at our booth.

Welcome Terry, and your daughter, to AH! Good for her wanting to go and good for you taking her!
JMO, but I like having a couple of specific animals to focus on, then I like taking what ever Mother Africa offers!

Thank you to all who have responded. Frankly, there have been enough who have reached out that I'm worried I'll have missed someone.

I am recovering from surgery of a week ago. I'm not sharing that to generate any sympathy: it appears that it went well and will improve things moving forward. But I have been taking some pain killers and sleeping a lot... so if I haven't responded to someone, I assure you - it hasn't been intentional.

Thanks again to those who have reached out; I am grateful. I am very uplifted from some conversations I've had that I can make something happen for my daughter and me, possibly by next summer. It has me very excited.

Welcome to this great forum! Enjoy the site and have fun planning!

Hello to all from the northern shores of Bristol Bay!

I am, I suppose, like a lot of folks: dreams of Africa someday... and then you realize the years have skipped past pretty fast, and it's time to start thinking on acting.

I have lurked as a visitor for a number of years, popping in when I was curious about something specific.

My reason for finally signing up is I'd really like to get serious about putting together a trip for myself and my 16 year old daughter. I have hunted my whole life, most of it in AK, and have had decent success over the course of my life on caribou, moose, brown bear and black bear. My daughter is still fairly new to hunting but does well with any gun I give her at the range. In addition to looking at what's posted if folks have suggestions on great places to look for a dad/daughter destination, I'd be happy to listen.

Thanks! :)

I'm a bit late seeing your post as I've been off on a hunt in South Africa. Nonetheless welcome to AH! Please let me know if I could be of help in planning a hunt for you and your daughter.

Welcome aboard Terry. I've been waiting to see if you were going to divulge your daughter's age and what hunting experience she has. What caliber rifle is she comfortable shooting. A number of AH Dads and Grandfathers have settled on 243 Winchesters. I have my almost 9 year old grandson shooting a sporterized 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser. My aim is to get him hunting Whitetails with me when he is 10. So far he has been on several bow hunts and is very quiet while on stand.

Welcome to AH Terry. Planning is half the fun! Enjoy the forum, it's very addicting.

Shootist... I missed your comment yesterday. She is a small statured (right at 5') 16 year old. We've never put it all together yet, but she's been with me for caribou and moose a bunch. She loves to shoot and does very well at the range. She has something of a cast-iron shoulder; she's shot my 45-70 (hunting loads) at the range accurately. Her favorite is a Muddy Girl .243. For this hunt we're now planning on a .308. She is deadly with a 20 gauge on spruce grouse.

A number of folks have extended a welcome. To each of you... thank you very much.
