An excellent hunt report sir! I can not, nor will I ever understand why some clients refuse to listen to the professional hunter.
I could see myself really enjoying a hunt with you!

Yep and a Canadian to boot!
Do you mean, like this one Graham Hunter and LivingTheDream?

Magnum TV S4:E3- Cape Buffalo Showdown

The hunt starts at 13:00 minutes ... and culminates after 17:00 minutes...

A very patient buff, and obedient too, he even stays when the hunter says "no" (don't leave).

There are also some interesting bits at 2:56 about asking what the PH wants his client to shoot; at 3:20 "I have had a lot of experience and shot a lot of buffalo" and at 14:50 when he reloads. The rifle appears to be a Win 70, so if he started with 3+1, fired 2 (maybe more the footage does not show), reloaded 3+1, reloaded 1, it looks like it took at least 7 shots to drop the buff.

Thanks for the great story, IvW. I have met my share of TV hunting personalities in Spain, a bunch of idiots who make us hunters look bad to the general public.

Some of my most enjoyable moments in Africa are when, after dinner, around the fire, an experienced PH like you, shares some interesting stories.

No way. Tell me it ain't so!
In all fairness guys, we have no idea whether the video I linked in post #28 features Mr. X or not... I was following up on Graham Hunter and LivingTheDream remembering this one, but there are many more TV hosts out there who would likely fit IvW's description...

For example, I have personally been told by the PH who guided them about two in particular: one who refused to continue the hunt after wounding a lion; and one whose every hunt in the shows were reconstructed and re-enacted to make what were laborious gun battles from the truck look like one-shot kills walk & stalk...

This Canadian friend (post #28) seems to not count his shots indeed, but he apparently defers to his PH's advice, and he does not seem to argue with him :)

Just saying...

Sad to mention, but I have a couple of friends like Mr X of whom I no longer (as of many years!) hunt with. They knew it all from the books they had read. Neither have ever been to Africa, but could tell me what was not good about each of my trophies.

To be clear, to me, the trophy is the hunt. I am no longer interested in putting stuff on my walls for my family to have to get rid of in a few years upon my demise. I want fun challenging experiences with the time I have left to squeeze into my minuscule memory bank.
I pay a PH to give me clear concise direction to make the shot to finish the experience.

Thanks for writing up your experiences! Very enjoyable! Looking forward to the next time you sit at the fire pit and get bored watching your “Bush TV”.:ROFLMAO:

No problem on confusing the video "hunter, Team Magnum" host with Mr X. I figured the video link was posted as an example of what IvW was talking about with the personality of Mr X. I too have run into several TV "hunters", Type A personality, ego driven, camera chasers over the years.

@IvW Man, what a great story and you tell it so well. You're to be commended for your patience. I would have been in a knock down drag out after the first day.

Heck we had one fellow around here for awhile that knew everything there was to know about Africa after one trip. All you had to do was ask him, he'd tell ya!

Maybe he was just trying to help. Cant fault someone for that. I find it important to not throw too many stones because some people talk too much but that doesnt make everything they say useless.i always see it as a man can draw on his own experience but that doesnt always makes what he did correct or work for everyone.

I’d say that would depend on the tone of the posts.

Wow, if I was that incompetent I sure wouldn’t be telling the world by putting it on TV!
