Greetings, all.

I have been an on and off lurker here for quite some time. I have hunted most game animals in Idaho and Wyoming, but just dreamt of Africa.

I have always enjoyed shooting with friends and family and I am thankful that I have sons and a daughter that enjoy shooting sports as well.

I just made a trade for two CZ rifles. A 458 Lott and a 416 Rigby and I though I should get an account here as I am sure I will need advice.

Cheers

Hello and welcome!

Welcome aboard! This is a great place to learn and get all your questions answered. Exactly a year ago, I was in the middle of my first trip to Africa. It was awesome and I think of it every day. I hope you you have as much fun as I did.

Dennis............With those two powerful rifles that you just acquired, I think there is a cape buffalo in your future........welcome to AH.....FWB

Dennis M, welcome to the AH forum! You have some beautiful country there in Idaho!
Yep with a couple of guns like your new acquisitions, you need to get them to Africa on some serious game!

Welcome to AH! That Rigby should be a dandy

Welcome to AH! You've definitely made a jump into the big bores with those two calibers. What part of Idaho do you call home?

Welcome aboard Dennis M. Have you taken either or both of your CZ(s) to the range yet? If so, how did they perform? Next question is how well did they feed subsequent rounds out of the magazine? If you experienced any feeding issues don't despair. Wayne at AHR can rectify them. Hunting Africa in 2020 is probably a bust, but now would be a good time to start thinking about 2021. For your first hunt I'd suggest sticking with one of the Outfitter /sponsors of AH. They are vetted on a regular basis. Because of that they cannot afford unhappy customers and will bust their hump to provide you with the experience you were looking for.

Welcome Dennis!

Thanks again for all the kind greetings. I hail from the Idaho Falls area, and when I do get the opportunity to hunt Africa, I will definitely be talking to the outfitters and sponsors here.

Cheers.

I lived for a number of years in Pocatello and do miss the fishing. Welcome again!

Most of my hunts are solo — just me, my rifle, and a good map. Sometimes I tag along with an old buddy for a week in Zimbabwe or South Africa, but more often than not, it’s just me.
Big fan of classic hunting — bolt-action rifles, old-school tracking, and taking the time to really be in the moment.
Just did a podcast, check it out if interested!
