BTW, I'm glad the USWNT lost and are out from the Women's World Cup. They are a bunch of arrogant !@#$$, and they deserve what they got. Especially their team leader Megan Rapinoe, who BTW missed a crucial penalty kick. Hopefully they've learned a lesson but doubt it.

I totally agree. Having them rep our country is embarrassing.

Whatever you believe about me is irrelevant. What I do know is that anything beyond the art of the possible is nothing but fantasy. And Donald Trump is happy to take every penny from anyone willing to believe his fantasy. He will then spend it all on his lawyers.

I would Suggest Arizona go to school on Florida. They are very similar - particularly demographically. Florida has the additional burden of fleeing emigrants from NY and NJ. From battleground state a decade ago, Dems don’t even plan to seriously contest it next year.
One thing that DeSantis managed to do is solidly get the Hispanic vote on his side. If the Republican party in the US wishes to remain relevant in the future, this is something it will need to do nationwide.

Although I think the Hispanic population in Florida is more right leaning than the general American Hispanic population. So this may have made it easier for DeSantis... If I'm not mistaken even Trump did fairly well with Florida's Hispanics...

Rapinoe missing the tie breaker as her last USWNT appearance was karma.

I truly think we need to go back to Herbert Hoover signing the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act in 1930, which caused the Great Depression,

Let’s be brutally clear. Hoover’s well-intended but wrongheaded policy caused the Great Depression,
AMAZING - the USTA signed June 17, 1930 caused something with the generally accepted origin date of the stock market crash October 28, 1929. I guess time travel is taught at USMA.

Since that is a quote from an article perhaps you can explain the cleverness of your crack about the USMA? I rather suspect the author was not a West Point graduate and neither was I.

Secondly, you might also read up on the effects, particularly international, of that series of tariffs and the retaliatory actions taken by other governments that truly turned the collapse of '29 into a worldwide depression.

I had this exact same thought. So many unpatriotic members "representing" the US on a world stage was/is embarrassing. I did not watch a single second of TV coverage of their matches, only saw the headlines out there that they lost. And I was glad to see it. There are a few players on the team I feel bad for, but on the whole, the team got what they deserved.

To expand on this it's important to realize that the "hispanic" populations in Florida are comprised from about dozen different nationalities, and they vote quite differently depending on their origin and personal experience. Cuban Americans make up the majority of hispanics in Dade County at around 25% while the remaining 50% is a combination of hispanics including Colombians, Venezuelans, Brazilians, and the entire mix of Central America. These demographics are signifigant becasue they are reflective of a majority of hispanics that have expereinced and fled communism and socialism.

Trump had a huge impact on changing the course of their voting records when he took office. Trump was very supportive and engaged in the promotion of hispanic owned business, and epecially small business which resonated well with Dade County Hispanics many of which are Cuban Americans who's property and livelyhoods where confiscated by Castro. DeSantis followed up on that pro-entraprenuership engagement and won over huge blocks of Dade County hispanics simply by restoring their personal freedoms and keeping their businesses open during covid.

The central region of Florida is the last stronghold of democratic hispanics. This area which inlcudes Disney, is mostly comprised of younger hispanics from Puerto Rico, and Central America. Those that are employed are mostly in the service & hospitality industries. Most of these hispanics are of the proletariat mindset and vote democrat favoring the promise of government support.

Yes, I have heard that Cuban Americans are a more right leaning subset of the Hispanic population, and I think they have historically favored Republican over Democratic candidates. But when looking at Hispanics as a whole, they tend to be quite pro-Democrat. As this article outlines:

This is why the Republican party will need to woo the Hispanic voters in order for it to remain competitive. DeSantis seems to have done a good job at this. As the above article outlines Florida was the only state where more Hispanics voted Republican than Democrat...

…and you are not a fan of Holick’s Boots either.(y)

You mean the Hitler Youth?!?

Alas, my daughter is an Aggie. Some years ago I drew the short straw and was the one chosen to drive down from Northern Virginia with her for the parents' indoctrination - I mean orientation. My spouse stayed home monitoring our then somewhat more ne'er-do-well son in high school.

I have to admit the school did a great job. Yell Leaders - seriously? I also discovered it was impossible to walk more than fifty steps anywhere on campus without some bright-eyed young Aryan politely asking if I needed any help.

I look forward to the LSU A&M game every year and unfortunately went to the one last year.

It actually depends on the generation of Cubans...

That first generation that fled Cuba during Castro's revolution are by and large conservative. They are very pro-life, pro-capitalist, and pro-personal freedom. Many, including my wife's parents, lost everything when they left... Many were professionals and business owners. They worked very hard to rebuild and re-establish themselves under the opportunity provided by the U.S.A... They have conveyed these experiences well to their children who by and large are continuing to lean conservative at least in terms of capitalism and personal freedoms. Although the younger generations of Cuban Americans are more socially liberal.

But you are absolutely correct that as an entire U.S. demographic, Hispanics in general are very pro-democrat.

This is why the Republican party will need to woo the Hispanic voters in order for it to remain competitive. DeSantis seems to have done a good job at this. As the above article outlines Florida was the only state where more Hispanics voted Republican than Democrat...

I really believe that the reason that conservatism in Florida and with DeSantis in particular was able to resonate with the Florida Hispanics so well is that they were able to experience the tangible benefits of these policies first-hand, especially during covid. I think that if other Hispanics around the country had first-hand experience with their State and Local governments keeping them working, keeping their businesses open, and preventing the Federal government from taking away their personal freedoms and choices, they would hopefully re-evaluate the way they vote like many Florida Hispanics did.

Regardless as to which SEC team you want to win, or lose; at least you have a conference that appears to be stable. Can't say the same thing about the PAC4, or the BIG 10 with about 16 teams or the BIG 12 with 14. These conferences have become nothing more than Minor league farm systems for the NFL.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
