Politics

To reiterate what I've said previously, if Donald Trump's outbursts are "election interference" in a sovereign country, you may want to re-think the definition of "sovereign". This is especially true in a parliamentary system where you are voting for your local MP, assuming everyone else will do the same and then that party will determine the PM. From where I sit, his statements may have fueled an information campaign run by the media (with whose help/financial assistance?) but he's not solely responsible.

I note there was a comment relating to trade. That's not really my concern, but to address it, ask your Australian friends what happened in 2020 when Australia petitioned the WHO to determine the origins of COVID-19. How did that affect the economy? Who caved first? How much damage can letting that camel's nose under the tent really do?

No, my real point is more along the lines of remembering the USSR's influence on the DDR, and how the DDR was used as a way in to western Europe. Remember the guy who was running a bio facility in a garage in Las Vegas? He entered the country from British Columbia. That's just one that we know about. It's not really difficult to get things across the border, and if you can get things into Canada without question, it's easy to get it further south. I'm surprised that Canadians want to be so offended by Trump, but are incurious about Canada's relationship with China, and ways the Chinese are influencing the Canadian government. I mean, even the Toronto Sun is starting to notice things are amiss. I guess it's easier to blame Trump. After all, it's not like your MP is going to encourage you to collect on a US bounty because of things you've said about him.

Sure, I guess you can say it's Trump's fault that he's pushed you into the arms of China. It's kind of like blaming your ex for your turn to alcoholism instead of your personal choices. If that makes it easier to look in the mirror, OK. Trump will pass. He's out in a few more years, and there's a lot that can happen in the world in the mean time. But I promise you, if you're not careful, there are things that are worse than his childish outbursts.

Transgender 18 year-old. Sounds like his/her/their home life was a mess. Cops previously took guns out of the house but had to return them when owner petitioned. Kid's mother and 11 year-old step-brother killed at home before school shooting started. Sounds like someone at home failed to properly secure the guns, much like the Connecticut school shooting. Hopefully this kid wasn't using a black gun. The name was definitely Dutch origin so all the dog-eating Somalai immigrants can breathe a sigh of relief.
Sounds like there were a lot more failings in the house than just unsecured firearms

Wow , that gender neutral language that was written in kinda made me uncomfortable to read, does everyone in Canada speak or write news articles in such high gender neutral language?
To be fair, you did notice it was the Babylon Bee, right?

I’ve never said he was solely responsible the liberals run a very good smear campaign against poilievre driven by the media, they got a lot of help from the media because poilievre was also promoting defunding Canadian media company’s. Some of it also falls on the conservatives for not pivoting fast enough when trade became the primary issue of the election. All that being said trump still played a major part in the win and deserves a share in the blame.

You realize that’s a satire publication, right?

Now Corey I love and respect the Corps, but it is comparatively easy to audit a budget when one compares something the relative size of Greenwich, Connecticut to let's say Dallas.

Sounds like SOMEONE doesn't want to pull everything back out of the ISU-90 and count it again!!

A buddy of mine jokingly said the Marine Corps was able to pull this off because they just sent a couple infantry battalions to the field for a month for "SERE training". They don't have to feed them so this saved a bunch of money on food, electricity, and water in the barracks. That's how they're creating a nice little slush fund to even everything out.

The "woman" who carried out the vile act in Canada. Clearly this child was never mentally ill, but simply carrying out his inner reality.

Why even bother running as a Republican? Oh that’s right, it’s so you can fool the same people over and over, keep delivering loads of pork to a pork dependent base, play the popular sport of continually bashing Trump for recreation and keep getting re-elected. What a sweet gig ;)

The "child" was eighteen years old. I'm guessing a problem within the family was the source. All the kids killed were in the same age group as the murdered step brother at home, eleven or twelve year-olds. The sister was spared and ran to a neighbor home and they phoned police. A police helicopter was already in the air when he entered the school. Why wasn't the school locked down? I'm sure they'll find some way to blame that on gun owners.

The benefit of NATO member nations accepting responsibility for their own defense is a monumental achievement. And makes NATO a real threat against Russia and China.

But the damage to trust is also monumental. It will eventually cause the replacement of the current reserve currency. To either a world digital currency or the Renminbi (RMB)

Luckily this will take years. Unless something Stems the Tide.

The way the usd is losing its status unfortunately seems to be picking up speed at quite a rate as time goes on....

Hopefully Scott Bessent is correct. And the U.S. economy is juiced for a big 2026. Giving the Dollar a confidence boost.
I am not envious of his position, trying to keep the economy growing must be hard when everything could suddenly change from one moment to another just by his boss tweeting something that upends everything.

Ahh.. the politics thread. Free, apparently, from the poo slinging, scab picking, .404 Jeff wielding, ambiguous Canadian.

I’m looking forward to reading and learning from my elders and more experienced political consumers from the entire spectrum of current events and differing points of view without all the rage.
