New from Oregon

Hello rosecitymike,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.
When you have a few minutes to spare, have a look at our web site.
We offer true free range / not game fenced hunting in the Khomas Hochland Highlands (moderate, to mild rolling foothill to mountain conditions).
Antelopes and zebras migrate through our huge property each season.

Bring properly comfortable hiking shoes, well broken in, as we do like to walk and stalk.
Our PH’s are born and raised in those mountains and know all the main game trails, plus some trails not so well known.
In the event you want a break from big game hunting , we also offer sport fishing over at the coast, as well as horseback riding and bird hunting (francoln grouse, guinea fowl, dove, duck and goose) on our Highlands property.
And, we have shotguns always available.

No matter who you book with, us or some other outfit, you are going to flip when you see Africa.

Cheers,
Paul (Velo Dog).

Welcome aboard rosecitymike. As you can see, your expectations are not that unusual and several AH outfitter sponsors have already "stepped up to the plate." You have lots of time to contact the referrals they will no doubt give you. What kind and caliber rifle were you planning on using? Will you be taking your own or renting one?

Indeed, have already gotten such great feedback and communication in this topic and through PMs! Can’t thank all the good folks at AH enough.

As far as rifles, my thought was to bring my 280AI and 300 win mag. I’ve worked up loads with 155 and 210s respectively that group under .5 MOA. I could switch out one of those for a 375 H&H, but that seems like a bit much for the critters I’m looking at.

Be interested to hear from the PHs on how the drought is affecting game in their area.

Welcome to AH!
I hope that you will enjoy planning your hunt, and find the perfect destination.

We have several hunting areas over Namibia, two of which is mainly our plainsgame hunting destinations.
We would love to host you and your wife, and I'm sure that your wife will have a great time in our beautiful lodges.
If your wife would enjoy a trip to the coast, or visiting a National Park, we can also make arrangements for that, so that she gets to explore a little bit while you are hunting.
I would love to show her around Namibia.

Please contact us @ info@jamyhunt.com if you would like more information.

Regards,
Kirsten Lotter
Welcome to AH. I hunted with Jamy Traut last year at his Panorama camp. Had a great time. If you do a search for Jamy Traut on this forum, you’ll find a number of hunt reviews, including mine.

Welcome to AH!

Rosecitymike, I would think that that the hunting reports from the guys who hunted in Namibia this year would be your best source for finding out what effect the drought has had. Salesmen always seem to try to put the best possible spin on their product.

FYI, Personally I only take my 375 H&H. Reason being I almost always have some animal show up that is not on my list and I decide to take it. And it can easily be something my 300 WM is not the best cartridge for.
Just my logic.
Enjoy your research and planning. It is fun to do as well!

I’m + 1 with Shootist on this topic.
Reading what the returning clients have to say and / or contacting them individually, with specific questions is always worth it’s weight in gold.

Welcome to the family and the forum @rosecitymike, you are in the right place! Nothing like AH for information and getting people on their way to Africa.

Have fun planning and enjoy the site!

Hi all,

Recently joined to start gathering info for a Namibia hunt, looking at 2021 or possibly 2022. I’m an infrequent hunter but frequent shooter and avid reloader. My goal is to find an outfitter that will give me a true stalking and hunting experience. I’d rather spend days on a track and come back empty than drive up to an animal not afraid of people that was farmed and dropped off just to shoot. Not interested in big numbers of animals in one trip or necessarily the biggest trophy, though not going to pass on one! My top animal goals for this trip are kudu, zebra (possibly more than one) and gemsbok, in that order. Second tier would be nyala, red hartebeast and eland. My wife is neither a hunter or particularly outdoorsy, and I’d love for her to come if there is an outfitter that has a nice lodge and good food she could hang out at, though the hunt is the priority and if I can’t find both will plan the trip with a friend.

Obviously, am spending a ton of time searching the forum for info, but happy to take referrals, suggestions or links to reviews, websites, etc.

In any event, glad to be here and thanks in advance!
Welcome, enjoy planning! Namibia offers everything that you are looking for, and more.... North Western Namibia is home to excellent FREE RANGE species including Kudu, Oryx and Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. Have a look at our website for pictures of our new lodge/ hunting facility where many families and wives were very comfortable and happy.

I just returned from Namibia today, I was hunting with Kowas near Dordabis. I'm not really sure about what you are looking for, animals starving, changing behavior/patterns etc.

I hunted several properties while there. Kowas was putting out supplemental feed to keep the critters fed. The other properties that I was on I could not see any feeders other than at cattle pens. They may have been there but I didn't see them. I also doubt that the other properties were supplemental feeding as they wanted the Oryx and Red Hartebeest gone as they were competing with their cattle for food. The Oryx and Hartebeest that I took were in good shape, no overt signs of lack of food.

My guess is that the situation is the same across all of Namibia as the Kowas folks also are hunting up North in the Caprivi and the reports from there were the same, lack of water and feed. The animal behavior up there was changing according to the folks on the ground, but not hurting/starving the animals.

To your original question about outfitters in Namibia, you can probably guess that I'm going to say look at Kowas for your potential trip. I had a great time. The camp was nice, the people were better. Food was great. Hunting was fantastic. Matheus was my pro for this hunt and that man is a machine. I learned so much by just listening and watching him over my time there on my first African hunt.

That being said, all the other outfits that are described previously have some pretty good reputations also. I really don't think that you can do wrong with any of them, the wild card would be your wife and her desires for this trip. Most will bend over backwards to add in extras for the wife, you just need to ask!

If you have any questions about Kowas, feel free to drop me a private message.

Best of luck!

Welcome aboard.

Greetings from Klamath
I just picked up the metal work for my 280 Ackley Imp two days ago. Just need to finish the stock and pull the trigger!

Good luck on putting your hunt together. The planning and day dreaming is half the fun!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
