Looking at booking a hunt with them through Buchanon hunts. Buffalo, Tuskless Elephant and Kudu. Would like to hear any experiences, particularly recent ones with this operation and also if anyone has used Buchanon hunts.

Thanks

Although I have not personally used either, both have very good reputations. I know Rinehart500 is currently on a Buchanan outfitted hunt and he is having a very successful hunt with another outfit.

Good reputations although I made an inquiry this winter of Buchanan hunts that went unanswered……..

I was booked to hunt with Philip Smythe of Ivory Trail Safaris before his incident with the elephant. I ended up contacting Michele and she went WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND to help me out with that situation. She did it out of the kindness of her heart, there was nothing in it for her. I was not a paying client I was quite literally just random guy that had emailed her and asked about a hunt but she happened to know some of the people involved with that whole situation. They have been in Africa for the last few weeks and are returning today actually. I am planning to get in touch with her and get this hunt booked but I was curious if anyone here had actually used thier services. I feel confident it will be a great experience, and has been so far, but it never hurts to do your due diligence.

Another option is Charlton McCallum Safaris (cmsafaris.com). A number of members here have hunted with them and I am taking off in two weeks for buffalo/leopard/tuskless and a trophy kudu is also on the menu if we see one. They were selected as DSC outfitter of the year a couple of years ago.

You will have a very difficult time finding a better hunting property in all of Africa than the area of Humani/Bedford operated by the Whittall Family within the Save Valley Conservancy. The family has been at the intersection of the Save and Turgwe Rivers since the early 1920s. They care about the land and the quality of the game on it. The results show and speak for themselves.

I hunted with the Duckworths right next door, you can click on the hunting report I have posted here. Lots of animals on the Save.

I hunted right next door as well. I would not hesitate to book with them!

The Whittalls have a beautiful history and are well respected. I have not hunted there or used Buchanan hunts yet. I do have Andy set to film my Omay safari next year.

I am sure you will not go wrong with both the Buchanans and the Whittals. As said in the thread, the Whittals are a long standing hunting company with a great area that they have had for years. Loads of ellies and lion/buffalo in the conservancy and a few rhino that you may bump in to. Good people.

Salt of the earth....

I have lived in Zim and been going for years. First class family and operation! Mokore Safaris go. Use a booking agent or don’t.

“Buchanan hunts” on YouTube you can find an episode where they hunt with the Whittall family—I’m sorry I can’t remember the season or the episode but wouldn’t be hard to find-I would love to hunt with any of the above mentioned operators, they all have long standing excellent track records.

There is actually a several that I found in season 3

Why would you not book directly with the Whittalls?

A number of people from our Calgary SCI Chapter have hunted with the Whittalls, including our past President who has bowhunted with them. I have heard of no issues and IIRC, Whittalls have donated hunts to our auction in the past. The Whittalls have been around for decades, you aren't able to do that if you are a fly by night outfit.

Had I known about the Whittalls I likely would have just booked with them. I meet Michelle during the deal when Phillip Smythe got killed. I was booked with him and she helped me sort out getting my deposit back. I figured since she was kind enough to help me out with that situation that I would use thier services to book my hunt. It is really nice to have a contact here in the states that I can call and talk to that has as much experience at this kind of thing as they do.

I’d say you did the right thing. Michelle was rewarded for her work and RWS gets a new client.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
