What is the easiest caliber to convert to .300H&H

I am hoping one of you guy's has either done this or can advise me as to what is the easiest caliber to convert to .300H&H. Is it easier to open up the bolt face on a 30-06 and rechamber for instance or is it easier to cut and rechamber a 300win mag? Or do I get a .375H&H and rebarrel?
Also worth considering is that I plan to have both a 300H&H and a 375H&H.

Have you talked to a good gunsmith? I'll bet he has the answer you are looking for. Although rechambering a rifle may be a quick way to get the caliber you want, it will never be as valuable as a rifle made in that caliber. I bought a prewar model 70 Winchester in pristine condition for $700.00. The rifle was made in 1936 and would have been worth several thousand dollars had someone not had it rechambered to 300 Weatherby Mag.

I agree with Shootist43. Your options for a new rifle chambered in 300 H&H is limited but there are a few. Browning, MRC(upgrade adder) and I believe Dakota chamber it.

I just received my MRC 300 H&H and am pleased. Until Winchester starts chambering the 300 H&H again, this is your choice in a CRF semi production rifle and a fine one IMO.

Hi Chris.Wood,

There are some decent deals from time to time on various rifles that are all ready to go, in caliber .300 H&H, listed in:
www.gunsinternational.com

Otherwise, there are virtually always decent deals about every day listed in there, for used .375 H&H and rebarreling one to .300 H&H usually requires no action work.
Now and then, as Shootist43 said, you can find a rifle originally made for one or the other original H&H cartridges mentioned that, some moron has ruined by re-clambering to some so called "improved" (that's a laugh) cartridge.

Such vandalized rifles are usually comparatively low in price for obvious reason.
And, rebarreling to an original H&H caliber is usually all they need to jump and breathe again.
Recently I passed on a $600.us asking price for an otherwise pristine condition Brno 602 Magnum that some intestine munching zombie had sawed the barrel off of to 20 inches.
I wanted it to rebarrel (25 inches) in .300 H&H but while thinking it over for a day, it sold to someone with more sense than me (99% of the world's population).

There are post 64 M70s virtually all of the time in .300 H&H for sale on Gun Broker. Just have to go the import/export route.

This would save a lot of time, effort ,and money.

Thanks Guys you have given me a few different options I had not considered, I might have to be on the look out for one of those so called "improved" rifles and do the right thing by it. Failing that I think I will rebarrel a second hand .375 H&H, this would probably work out as the easiest option for me in the long run.

A 7mm mag or a 338wm will work as well. Just need a rebarrel and tune up the action but the bolt face is the same as 300h&h

I used a 375 for mine. Feeds like butter, smith did no work. He almost sounded disappointed.....
