I would definitely not say Trump believes in walking softly.
I should’ve added he’ll use the big stick when he sees fit. I think he’s tried to use diplomacy and non-kinetic options as much as possible in almost all (if not all) instances.

Perhaps I should have said he believes in peace through strength while prioritizing diplomacy rather than military action but is more than willing to go that route. That’s probably a better description. He gave Iran every chance for a diplomatic solution. They declined

What would Iran look like today if the UK and US hadn’t over thrown the government in ‘54 to save their oil interests?
What would it look like if we kept the Shah in power. He kept the problem children under control.

For that matter what would the world be like if FDR would have let Patton take care of business. The Russians did not enter the fight with Japan until the end anyway.

The regime has been very clear that if people now protest they are following Trump's directions to overthrow the government making dissent treasonous (ie supporting a hostile foreign power) and unpatriotic

Oh no they are going to start cracking down on protesters! We better not do anything, since Iran was a beacon of free speech, and didnt just organize a mass killing of 30000 of this own civilians.

I appreciate your devil's advocate to discussion but this is extremely naive at best.

That’s a very good question..

My guess is that it would be worse, not better…

The govt that was removed in 1954 wasn’t very different than the govt that seized control in 1979… it was busy nationalizing not just oil but any infrastructure that brought value to the country… and while the Prime Minister was the head of government, the mullahs and Ayatollahs had huge influence and wielded immense power..

They were already moving in the direction they are now in… albeit a little more slowly..

But honestly… who knows? They probably also wouldn’t have as much of a hard on about the US and Europe… I’d guess they would have remained just a big of a problem for the Iraqis, Saudis, etc.. maybe bigger… and that there might have been more regional conflicts, perhaps of even larger scope and scale…

These are the sort of extreme people you are dealing with in the israeli government.. Some here accuse the regime in Tehran of being messianic (they are..) but yet you support a jewish government who seek the land from Egypt to Iraq because their bible claim they are in their full right to do so..

Perhaps it would be smarter to cool the israelis down instead of headlessly going into this war with Bibi..?

PS - The Brent just passed $100..
Hmmm, that link was from 2.5 years ago, and the guy was removed from the cabinet. We have people saying that kind of stuff here as well doesn't mean the government will go in that direction.

BTW, how do you reconcile "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" comments by everyone in Iranian government? I have zero doubt that if they got a nuclear weapon that they'd use it.

You seem to be forgetting that the Israelis gave back the Sinai to Egypt. Yes, they keep the Golan Heights and the West Bank. But to the Victor goes the spoils. And Israel did not start that war.

Do you have a source for that? I have not heard anything about it and my google-fu is clearly failing me.
Yes it’s Proposition 10 says the state should prohibit Sharia Law, the Islamic legal code
For reference I voted against sharia law and most of the other propositions the wacky left wanted ( free medical treatment for those wanting to transition to a different gender for elementary and middle school. Children)

Tanks..I do not applaude Iran..but I am very sure that Mossad know excately their nuclear progress..

And since we are at it..what happened to the elimination of this program last summer..as Trump proclamated..?

I guess he lied about that too..

And he is not a crusader..??
Again, idiocy from someone that doesn’t bother to try to find truth and only relies on nonsense from the media…

TENS OF THOUSANDS of US servicemen have Jerusalem Crosses tattoos on their bodies… it became extremely popular during the first years of the war…

Several military units used the Jerusalem Crosses as an emblem during the first several years of the war in Iraq…

It is also popular among non military personnel… the 5 crosses represent the 5 wounds of Christ.. it originated in the 11th century and was adopted into the coat of arms of the King of Jerusalem…

It has significant meaning among many Christians..

Hegseth is both a former soldier and a devout Christian..

Whether or not Iran wants to control the ME or the world is not the question is it?

The question is are they capable of achieving either. I would suggest that both before and after the most recent attacks on Iran the answer was no. They had plenty of potential to be a pain in the ass, but literally zero potential to take over the world. Even in Lex Luther was leading them.

Iran was as likely to control the world as Canada is.

If you really think Sharia Law is a worldwide threat, it must lie from internal implementation in the West, not external. There is no realistic chance of Iran imposing Sharia law on Europe or anywhere else. There are realistic opportunities for Sharia law to be advanced in western democracies based on internal populations agitating for it.
If by “pain in the ass” you mean funding terrorism around the world and killing Americans both directly and indirectly over nearly half a century and actively pursuing nukes to the detriment of the entire planet then yes I guess you can say they are a “pain in the ass”.

The only threat Canada poses is getting in bed with China which can almost certainly be blamed on Trump for helping get Carney elected.

But you don't really think Iran can take over the world and impose Sharia law on us all do you?

I do not. They would like that but no. With nukes I’m sure their support for terrorism would grow exponentially

So basically more of the last 3500 years of history since Ur became more than a collection of small farms.

The Iranians I work with would disagree with you. They feel their families are more at risk from the regime than the were before.

But maybe they are naive.

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
