For my Icelandic friends and my friends who are not Venezuelan but speak English, this message is for you, from a Venezuelan who has been an immigrant for more than 10 years, forced to leave my home, passing through different countries and adapting to everything over and over again.
Don't be "worried" because Trump only wants Venezuela's oil and his actions aren't to help liberate the country, but to keep the oil, we all know that, however, this matters little to all of us, inside and outside Venezuela, because for YEARS, around 15 or 20 years, Chavez and later Maduro have GIVEN AWAY Venezuelan oil to Iran, Cuba, China, Russia, and other shitty countries just to create "strategic alliances" with other corrupt and communist governments because they are the only ones who would support that narco-dictatorship in Venezuela in exchange for oil and gold, because, yes, besides oil, we also have a lot of gold, copper, bronze, natural gas, and a million other resources, but they have always been under corruption and mismanagement.
None of this goes toward the wealth and well-being of the people, but rather to the politicians and their own interests, stealing and kidnapping the power is what they have done since 1999.
That's why I repeat, do not be "worried" because Trump only wants the oil, which, by the way, belongs to the USA in part due to previous agreements that weren't respected since Chávez expropriated and bankrupted everything, forcing companies to leave.
If returning that oil and giving him more is the price to pay to free ourselves from this cancer called Chavismo, all Venezuelans are more than happy to do so.
More than 8 million of us live abroad, missing our parents, siblings, friends, and indeed, our homeland every day, and, if these actions by Trump help alleviate this evil a little and give us some happiness, let him keep whatever he wants anyway Chavez and Maduro took everything from us.
In the end, Venezuelans don't see any of this oil and resources because houses don't have gas, the streets are broken, the avenues are full of potholes, and cars have no gasoline, so, with or without Trump's actions, things can't get any worse, at least they've captured Maduro, and now we wait to see what the next steps will be.
We, Venezuelans just want a normal country, a dignified life, and to be happy, what everyone wants, but this government has stolen that dream from us for more than 20 years, and for us, what has happened today is a glimmer of hope to be free again.
I’m Alberto Marcano, Venezuelan living in Iceland for 6 years, learning the language which I speak almost fluent, father of two beautiful kids that were born here, teaching Icelanders to speak Spanish and Spanish speakers to learn Icelandic, completely adapted to the society and culture BUT, living out of my country and missing it everyday since 2015.
Thaks for reading.
