Community Designed AH Hunting Knife

Gents! Thanks to everyone who has put something into this discussion. Below are 4 potential designs that I've drawn up this morning. I have my own leanings, but lets see what everyone here may prefer!

Option A
I would purchase one for me and likely a second for a gift. A friend of mine in Zim told me about your knives a year or so ago. I like Option A best, but would buy whatever the group decides. I prefer wood and a lanyard tube; the Rhodesian Teak is beautiful. Thank you for offering to put both your logo and the Africa Hunting logo on the knives, and for offering this project.

Option A, but without the finger groove-a flat belly to the handle is my vote

I know that this is a weird thing but I’d almost lean towards a blued guard/pins to match the majority of hunting rifles over brass, with either native wood or walnut

TOO MANY COOKS IN THE KITCHEN! I'LL REACH OUT SOON FOR ONE MADE FOR ME.

Thanks for the input guys. If the knife that we end up doing isn't something that your into, you are always free to reach out to me and we can make exactly what you would want. Custom one offs is how I started as a knife maker and its still my favorite way to work.

Definitely. Yes. Stop right there.

Im the guy that emails you send me a link for payment when you drop a new knife. So do the same when these drop lol. Thanks

I’m in, let me know when

I’m in.

Thanks guys. I have started work on the prototype already, and will be posting WIP pictures along the way. Once we are ready to start taking orders, will advise everyone

Old railwood teak or yellow ironwood with a splash of warthog or giraffe bone for the handle would be bad a**.

A for me. Prefer dark wood but would be okay with pretty much anything for the handle. Prefer leather over synthetic sheath but I’ll buy whatever the group purchase happens to be.

Thank you for the input! Right now I'm planning on using Rhodesian teak for the handle, along with a brass guard.

Both of the knives below are in teak. The folding knife shows it freshly oiled, the bowie shows it with a bit of age

Loveless design.

I have owned some Dozers.

Here are my Loveless knives. Well one is a Loveless the rest are copies.

Top photo, top 2 knives, with a bit more straight top blade, slightly less pointed at the top. A bit more blade length...about 6 to 7 inches. And about 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 wide blade, about 1/8 to 3/16 inches thick at the top of the blade. For multi use: skinning, butchering, and cutting.

Pointed tips have a way of puncturing internal organs: stomach, intestines.

Top photo, Fouth from top is a good deboning and cutting out the anal portion. I would prefer a straight handle over the curved handle. Around a 3 inch blade.

Well, made a start on the prototype.

Here is the blade all profiled up. Decided to go with L4528 stainless steel. For those who want a high carbon, then that will be available as an option.

Guard cut out and marked up. Then slotted and test fit.

Then I milled a notch in the blade for the guard to recess into. This will provide strength to the guard as well make a nice looking transition.

Then drilled and profiled the guard

And finally the blade all drilled and ready for the heat treat.

Kiln is heating up now, so should have the heat treat process done by later today.

Following with intrest. Will this knife have a 90 degree spine?

Nah I was just throwing in some input. 100% gonna get whatever the community decides

Lekker, well, thanks for the support then!
I appreciate the work-in-process photos very much! I’m an industrial arts enthusiast and love to see how things are made. Count me in for one with a leather sheath.
A pleasure. Will try and do a video of how they are made later for youtube, right now just trying to get it done
Following with interest. Like the shape. Would prefer leadwood and giraffe bone or the teak and warthog ivory handle., in carbon steel with a leather sheath. with AH and your logo on it.

Have a couple of Gary's and @mdwest knives.
Thanks. If you would like to have something really unique, or even just to change up the handle materials, your welcome to PM me for a custom build if you would like.
