CB Finance debate, Egg Recipes, etc.

I guess he didn’t feel THAT bad about it because he did it anyway instead of maybe working harder and paying back his creditors the honorable way instead of claiming bankruptcy and screwing them.

I just don’t get this attitude some here have, giving CB a pass because he’s a “nice guy.”

Wondering if the people he shafted feel the same way?

I think humans are 75% water and about 5% asshole (not sure what the other 20% is). If we didn't have a toxic part to our selves there would be no need for cops, soldiers or lawyers. So, I think most people pay attention to that 95%, especially if it is in a shared interest. But, if you connect in that 5% then that is all you know about the man. You are entitled to judge him by that experience.

I say know a man, judge who you want as friends. But, there is usually more there than what is perceived. Life is about experience and redemption. Our 5% will get us in the crap with other people and the rest of our makeup, and the best in others, will hopefully get us out again.

Now, @spike.t clearly has no idea about hot sauce...that is some part of his 5% no doubt.

I'll ask again what the purpose is of this thread?

I can only speak for myself, but I'm not giving him a pass on anything. I just refuse to pass judgment without having all the facts. Time and time again I've seen that done on all sorts of subjects and people and I don't get it. But I also refuse to exonerate him for the same reasons. Until I know the facts of the matter, I have no place doing either. And to say it for the umpteenth time, it's none of my business.

People make assumptions and then look like asses when the full truth comes out. But rarely do I see someone who sits at his keyboard and skewers the hell out of someone, justifying it because the person is a public figure and therefore should expect it, and then when it's shown that their judgment was wrong after the facts come out, do they apologize. And it doesn't even matter if they do, that person's reputation has been tarnished, whether it be for accurate reasons or total bullshit. And there's no getting that back, there will be those who will believe it and spread the word regardless of the truth.

My expectation of CB as a public figure within the hunting/conservation community is that he conduct himself in a manner that he does not do something that would shame us as a whole. In reality I share that expectation of myself and all other hunters. With Craig or any of the other well known public hunting figures, what I expect more from is that they are just that much more careful how they conduct themselves as in fact the camera is on them and as such represent us.

No one has yet made it clear to me how his bankruptcy filing has had any negative impact on hunting or conservation. It has only pissed off a lot of people and kept them that way for years for what reason I don't know and I don't think they do either. If it continues to piss you off, then don't buy his merchandise. But why do you want to continue to do whatever you can to destroy the man by bringing this old news back to the front? Again what is the purpose of this?

If it really still has you troubled, once again why not take it up directly CB?

I understand that crucifying people in the court of public opinion, seems to be the popular trend on social media these days.

Will the last perfect man left in the room, please turn the lights off on your way out.

yup no problem.......shit where is that lightning bolt going to come from...........:E Frightened:.........:A Outta:......

Hey that’s pretty neat....did you just buy them and release them on your property? I didn’t think that they could survive cold like that
Yes I raised them. They have foisted in the tree at -20

I can only guess what happened - a real estate deal gone south. But when you wipe out over 1.5 milion of unsecured debt and you spend over $3500 more per month then you make, someone is going to get hurt - the creditors. I don't wish him ill. I would want not to start over in life.

I think what folks were wondering does how does a guy live like a millionaire taking expensive hunts when he claims that he's never taken a free hunt, even if its reduced to $1, you still have to get there.

And too bad this did not start back up last night when I had my adult beverage ready for the show. I was so looking for to Jeff telling me again about the porn history on my browser.

And by the way, I still don't think his writing is that great. Most of copy reads like product placement. His writing never inspired me to travel to Africa to hunt. It was Hemingway and Roosevelt, and suspect they have inspired almost everyone. Just look how many folks want to hunt in a tent camp with no fences!

Seems like you and I are one of the few people here who don’t think it’s OK to screw people out of their money while continuing to live a lavish lifestyle.

How people give him a pass and the benefit of the doubt is beyond me.

It’s not just heresey or jealousy...his Chapter 7 is online for all to see.

You might like him, his writing, or the fact that he said Hi to you and signed a book that you bought from him but it doesn’t erase the fact that he’s a shady guy and a businessman who used bankruptcy laws to save himself and hurt others.

Tell me how this is not so?

CB says he has never taken a free hunt, well, I don´t have any reason not to believe him, but...he must be the only writer who has done it.

Not claiming to be as famous as CB :D, but I have contributed articles to shooting/firearms magazines in Spain during the last 30 years or so. (Not professionally, just a hobby) Years ago, a firearms company brought out a new model of rifle, and I was invited to that country for a few days, along with representatives of other European magazines, went on two hunts all expenses paid, and was presented with a rifle.

That is quite common in the industry, I know the guys doing doing Spanish TV hunting shows, and they don´t pay a single hunt.

CB may be different, not trying to judge him in any way.

I don't have any problems with a writer taking a free hunt or discount hunt or gun and gear you are writing about, as long as the writer discloses that a promotional fee was paid in consideration. Then the reader can decide how much weight to give to the story.

Stil not sure why his finances and how he ended up on those hunts is my or anyone else's business, unless a business opportunity arose with him. In that case, it makes a lot of sense to know those kinds of details.

Regarding his writing, you have a different opinion than I, but I can live with that. Furthermore since it is quite pertinent to hunting in Africa I think it a fair topic of discussion on AH. I will say this, while CB may never have inspired you to hunt Africa, I feel I can confidently say he has inspired many to do so. Furthermore I would say that CB has done far more for hunting in Africa and conservation of her species as well other places in this than anyone on this forum.

I take no issue with how you view the situation for two reasons. You both served in the military and as such I can see how'd you may see this as a tarnish on the armed forces. And you know someone who was financially harmed, so there's a personal connection. But not unexpectedly so, while you're the one on this thread with the most to have a beef about, your comments have been measured. Others who I don't really think have much to bitch about have made some pretty harsh statements.

For me, I don't see what happened as putting any negative light on the armed forces, but then I'm a civilian and never served. And I don't have a personal connection to those who lost money in business dealings with the man. It's not that I have zero empathy for those who did, I just don't see where it's my place to stick my nose either into their's or CB's finances.

Furthermore this subject has been out there for years now. When do we let it go?

@Supercat you said the following in the OP:

I'd like to know why you think you need to know? What is the point of this thread? Is it to bitch yet again about a subject that's already been hashed over many times? What answer would satisfy you? Do you really have a weighing interest, or do you just want to embarrass CB?

@JGRaider, whether it be here or over at the other place, from what I've seen over the last several years is that you take every opportunity to criticize CB that you can. I get you have a strong sense of right and wrong and can respect that. But when are you going to get over it? If you just can't get over it, maybe instead of coming onto these public forums to gossip like some teenager, go confront CB directly. He's at DSC and SCI every year, quite easy to find him at his booth.
It doesn't put a negative light on the armed forces per se except it is impossible for a senior officer to perform his duties without a security clearance. You no longer qualify to be trusted by the US Government in a sensitive role after filing chapter 7. More importantly, we senior ground forces types get really squeamish at the thought of someone who can't manage their own affairs being responsible for the lives of young American soldiers. It is a code which follows us our whole lives. He broke that trust. Frankly he did so earlier during his promotion debacle, but that is yet another topic. And in keeping with the character concerns the military would have with this sort of behavior, through chapter 7 he consciously stuck it to people who could not afford it. If that is irrelevant to you and others, that's fine. I get it. He is not command troops now, and never will be again. But, we all measure ourselves and others by our own set of unique standards. My standards and perceptions inevitably affect my toleration of his current level of adulation.

That is certainly a fair response. No adulation on my part, just an unwillingness to play judge/jury/executioner of sentence not having all the facts. And I'm not inclined to go searching out those facts, so silent I will be. I've made that mistake before as a younger man, and in the end it cost me $$$ as well as being embarrased. I won't do so again if I can help it. That should not however be construed as giving the man a pass as some seem to think I have.

As mentioned you have a personal connection to the matter and with it apparently more information than I have. With that being the case, I would say none of my comments apply to you.

Donald Trump has filed bankruptcy multiple times on a couple of his investment property adventures. He went on to become the President of the United States.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
