Report Scam in AH Classifieds

This old man with shaky fingets needs you to remove pictures of the dogs the 8 mm bullets and my bussiness licence from the Premier Mannlicher Schoenauer ad thank you

There must be a way for us to increase oversight and screening of new members. I saw on another site that registration required answering a handful of questions that any hunter would know, but that non-hunters would likely not know. That kind of screening is primitive, and I’m sure that there are other methods that are more sophisticated. I imagine many members would gladly contribute a little money to protect the site, and each other, from interlopers and thieves. I would.

@Grandpa Moose These are the kind of requests that you need to make directly to the mod team by PM/Conversation.

The edits are complete.

Re the questions upon registration: scammers will just use AI these days. There were several scammers in the last couple years who made many posts that passed the smell test. With AI it will be more difficult to catch them.

That said there are always a handful of telltale signs that scammers can’t do anything about. I say that but the fact that a member can limit who sees their profile is the thing they could rely on. If you can see their profile, when they joined, when they started posting and read their posts it becomes quite easy to catch them. That and realizing their MO, the nature of their classified ad is usually the prime indicator.

I get the point on AI, but it also reminds me of something Aristophanes wrote so very long ago: don't quote us the laws, we carry swords. :) If I ran the site, I'd keep it clean by charging everyone $1 or $5 for their membership. No one would think twice about that amount except for the scammers. Nothing is perfect, naturally.

I hear ya. I don’t think I’ve seen one with a paid membership yet. Depends I guess. A membership is a very small investment when they may get someone for $500-$1500.

The latest attempt by PM to scam!!!

Typical create URGENCY and apparent CONVENIENCE!

Reported and banned along with 8 others.

Fee based memberships have not stopped scammers in the least on multiple platforms. I thought it was dumb that some sites allowed new users to jumpstart selling on the classified section by paying for the service vs having to be a longstanding member.

Theft of money is 100% profit and paying a fee is chump change to gain the big bucks from our pockets.

Chickensh*t had been on this forum for a long time and participated regularly. Then he posted some items for sale and scammed two or three of us on here. I was one of them. I don’t have the answer but I’m very cautious now.

Yeah, he had been on here since 2017 before he scammed you and others. He’s still probably on here with a new IP address and screen name. Buyer(s) beware!

That post today I saw had 458 Win Mag and 375 H&H brass for sale , Went to the hyperlink and no such brass available, and a very simple website . I think a scam

Well, I finally got scammed yesterday. 280.00 gone. Paid PP F&F and I’m done trusting people. Gkhiggins89@hotmail.com is a scammer, be warned.
Sorry that happened to you! You might want delete that attachment or have a moderator do it since it shows your personal information

Not wanting to be critical, but why would anyone pay via F&F vs. Good and Services. On the $280, that would have been less than $9. Seems to me $9 is worth saving $280 plus peace of mind if something goes awry. Just my .02. Typical scammer tactic to want to use F&F since there's no recourse for them.

I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
