Thanks in advance,

I hope you are successful. I suspect that you will have trouble getting anyone to guarantee a chance at a 70 pounder. There are certainly areas where it is a realistic possibility, particularly in Botswana, but none where it is a given. My first call would be to Len Taylor. He has killed some monsters. Johan Calitz would be a good bet as well.

Very good suggestions but to be clear I’m not looking for a guarantee. I am looking for an outfitter that has this level of elephants on his/her concession and isn’t just looking for another booking.

I doubt anyone in Africa has such a bull "on their concession." A very few may have such a bull or two transit their concessions every year or so. Timing can be very important with such a quest. So is the importance of potential eventual import. You have been given two good names as starting points.

Namibia, Bushmanland and Caprivi could also be looked into.

I would suggest minimum 14 days in the field to look for the giant and have a great deal of luck.
Talk to the outfitter as these old past prime bulls move at certain times of the year into areas that are better than others so be flexible on your booking time and good chance that the buffalo might be in a different area.

Weather, drought and rain also has a big influence on their movements so even if you come at the correct time that year the season might be different with late rain or too much rain.

All I can say its a very nice problem to have to be able to go after such a trophy and planning for it, best of luck.

In Tanzania two areas give you a decent chance at an elephant that size. Both areas have low quotas and target large bulls that may live in the Reserve but also move between the Parks and the Reserves. It is my understanding both areas take bulls over 70.

Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia are the other countries that can give you the opportunity for an elephant the size you want.

Earlier posts have given you good advice.

Good day HH

Hope all is well. We are one of very few owner operators in afore mentioned countries you have been advised to, with the exception of Zambia. Since you are looking for a 70 LBS elephant, and based on our 27 year experience and the fact that we do offer multiple destinations operated by ourselves, we comfortably recommend Botswana to be the perfect destination for your quest.

Note that we are based in Namibia with Tanzania as our main attraction. However we've been entertaining our clients in Botswana pre shutdown and again since last year when it reopened.

We have an excellent area west of the Delta on the migratory route between Namibia's famous Bushman land and the Delta. Practically known as Botswana's Bushman land. This is one of the few areas where you will find heavy tuskers of 19 inches plus at the lip (circumference) and more than 30 inches in the huge skulls, these elephants carry. These are big bodied animals with the perfect genes that has been well protected as a result of vary limited quotas, especially on the Namibian side, coupled with the fact that our area hasn't been hunted for 15 years prior to last year.

We will have to travel to a different area for buffalo but can certainly facilitate such a safari, meeting your requirements.

Should you require more information, please feel free to contact us
at jaco@gametrackersafrica.com and magdel@gametrackersafrica.com

Thank you.

Kind regards

Hi. Ernest here from Spear Safaris. Please send me an email so we can chat. info@spearsafaris.com

As I understand it, the best ele out of Bots last year was a confirmed 94lbs. There was a rumor of a 108lb one taken but only the measurements and photo were released and no confirmed weight. Measurements reportedly worked out to low-mid 90's.

As of now, the tenders for the govt concession in Bots aren't released for bids yet. That will start in a couple of weeks and tender winners notified by the end of this year.

I know CH1 in N central Bots has both ele and buff on the property and in the tender offer. Last year, the best ele was 65lbs. This year, the Linyanti river is already flowing and likely to hold more ele in the area. Person I know with first hand knowledge of the concession (hunted ele and buff there last year) says a 70lb one is not unreasonable. He's confident he will have access to CH1 and also CT27 on the NE side of Bots that buts up against the ZIM boarder. No buff there at all and best ele of the three they got on quota was 58lbs.

More info on Bots once the tenders are finalized.

Also try Frans Van Der Merwe at Kwatale in Botswana.

+1 on Frans. He has NG 43 and took some bulls that would not disappoint last year. NG 43 is typically best earlier in the season, although with new wells having been drilled that may shift.

I appreciate all the responses and please keep them coming. The Buffalo being in a different area is not a problem and my schedule is wide open as for dates. I love this site and it’s incredible members!

This sounds like a great adventure you are planning. I would like to add one caveat and it is that the areas where these big bulls may be found are certainly going to be of the most expensive hunts out there. I know Nyae Nyae in Namibia has some big ones like Bots but it comes at a high price and low availability for those hunts.
I’m not tryin to pour cold water on the plans but everyone wants a 70+lb tusker. I know I do!
best of luck and we look forward to hearing about it.

I can't afford to hunt an elephant of any size, but I do agree this site has a lot of incredible members..

I posted about that particular bull a few weeks ago. The weight was confirmed to be 108. The concession owner and PH both kept a fairly low profile but were generous enough to release the measurements and weight. That's about it.

In case anyone is interested, this is what a 72 pound elephant looks like in the dentist's chair. And after exstraction.

True, mister Mike Fell took a giant just a few days ago. The client used a 92-pound compound bow, quite impressive.

I believe 2 x 100lb plus elephant came out of Bots this year...not talking about the 70lbs pluses....
I would not book Tanzania or Zim with the expectations of getting a 70lbs plus bull....
