Hello from Oz

Laurie, welcome to the AH forum! You’re going to have a grand experience in Africa!
Be certain to practice a lot off of sticks. It will be expected of you.

Welcome to AH Laurie. Keep reading AH, do a little research and soon you'll feel a lot more comfortable with the trip you are about to take. Please tell us a little more about yourself as a hunter. things like what have you hunted previously, what kind and caliber rifles do you own, do you reload. Have you already booked your hunt? If so, who with? What species of game are you looking to take?

Welcome Laurie and congrat's on heading to Namibia!

I am 59 & spent most of my life hunting here in Oz. I love shooting our feral pigs above all else! I have also hunted Water Buffalo, deer & lots of larger feral species over here including donkeys, brumbies & wild cattle. My favourite cartridge is the 9.3x62, I have two rifles in theis calibre along with a .338W & .416 Taylor. Also own several lighter calibres. I began using the medium calibres much more as I was hunting the larger feral species, the heavy bullets & deep penetration provided much cleaner kills for me. I have been reloading since 15 yo & get much of my enjoyment playing around developing my hunting loads.

I have paid a deposit for my Namibia trip awaiting the 12 months window to book the flights & lock in dates. I am planning a plains game/ cull hunt with Eland.....

Welcome and please post your Namibia hunt

Welcome to AH, your 9.3 x 62 is beautiful!

Welcome, its good to Aussies here. I recently completed a management hunt in South Africa.
Welcome and please post your Namibia hunt
Dr Ray, hes still 12 months out.
Another aussie @Bob Nelson 35Whelen will be sure to see your post. He went to Namibia. Nice bloke just has a bit of a one eyed view on a crtain cartridge choice .
He will most likely endorse your preffered "Aussie" projectile.
@enysse is right you have a beautiful rifle. I have factory rifles but i like the pretty ones too.

Thanks for accepting me! I am planning my first African trip in 2021 to Namibia!
Laurie I sent you a private message from me mate.

Question do they have a season for flying monkeys there in Oz?

Welcome to AH you've joined with a wonderful bunch of gentleman.
Skinnersblade
Mate the number of flying monkeys is on the decline as they are the favorite food of our sabre tooth field mouse.
Just curious what do the jackpoles survive on over your way in winter or do the hibernate.
Ha ha ha ha
Cheers mate Bob

Welcome to AH

Namibia is a fantastic place. You will love it undoubtably.
Medium calibers should be perfect for Namibia. Namibian PHs all believe in the trusted 375 H&H 300gr bullet. Either Swift A or Barnes TSX.
All other 30 calibers are perfect for Namibia. People who hunt more in the bush areas prefer you 308 as it is a bit slower and less likely to change direction too much after touching a branch or something.
People hunting in large open areas love 300.
But it all just a matter of preference. Bring a gun you trust and shoot well and you will have the best experience ever.

If you have any questions on Namibia feel free to get in touch with me.

Regards

Chris I'm not one eyed mate I have 2
I eye sees the 35 Whelen the other sees 25 cal rifles.
The 243 is still only good for tomato stakes .
See I'm not biased as long as it's a 35 or 25 or metric equivalent all is right with the world.
Would love a 404 Jeffery tho.
Cheers mate Bob

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
