So I'm thinking of attending one of the two shows next year. Have heard good things about DSC. For those who've gone to both, if you could only do one, which would it be? Why? Thanks!

My wife & I (we've hunted several continents) have been to both. We now only attend DSC. We find DSC more inviting and affable overall (we were given free passes our first year, unsolicited, by a DSC volunteer). The overall differences between the two conventions are palpable.

DSC, because you get to meet Buff-Buster..:D

If I could/would only do one which would it be? That's a bit of a tough question to answer. Both shows are great with SCI being a bit larger than DSC. But SCI also costs you a bit more with the required membership and more expensive ticket cost. You can attend all 4 days at DSC for like $50 I think it is. SCI it's a couple hundred.

Las Vegas of course has it's attraction if you want to do gambling and/or shows. Gambling isn't my thing, the shows are good, but also pricy. Food and drink in Vegas is also expensive anywhere on the strip. Hotels with fairly easy access to Manadalay can be had for reasonable cost. I do have to say that Vegas just overall wears me out. Outside of the hotel room, it's always noisy, it's always dark inside the casino's, the neon lights, yada yada yada. With being inside all day at the show, by the time the show closes for the day it's dark outside. I just find myself ready to leave in a couple of days. Hard to fully explain it.

Dallas hotels are on par if not somewhat more expensive than Vegas. But food/drink outside of the convention hall is more reasonable. Unless you stay right downtown Dallas you'll likely need a rental car, whereas in Vegas you won't if you're staying on the strip.

Just my opinion, but I feel like SCI is a bit more of a black tie affair whereas DSC is more boots and jeans. So I feel a bit more like I'm in my element at DSC than I do at SCI. But they're both great shows and it's as I say hard to choose between one over the other.

Agree about Vegas. I've been to the last 6 SHOT shows in a row there. Ugh...

I hear that SCI is a little "bigger", but I assume most, if not all, of the product and safari vendors attend DSC as well?

Some go to both, but quite a few don't. I wouldn't know the exact numbers. In the end how big of a pile of apples do you need when you're looking for just one?

I thoroughly enjoy both shows.

SCI is more than just a little bigger.
When you factor in all cost including food, hotels, and show admission, SCI is more expensive, for me the extra cost is worth it.
I dress and act the same at both conventions, as do the people I know and go to see.

There have been years I have only gone to DSC and other years SCI, but if I had to chose one, it would be SCI. More to see at the show, more to do around Vegas.

DSC by a considerable margin. SCI boils down to more of a "pecker measuring contest" amongst the rich boys, and SCI cares mostly about milking it's members out of money IMHO.

DSC, Texans rock..

If you walk every aisle of DSC you will not feel like you were deprived as you go through recovery.

If you're just looking, go to SCI. If you're serious about buying, go to Dallas. This year was my first to Dallas and I loved it. My wife likes Vegas better.

Don't get me wrong SCI does wonderful things for hunting world wide but I enjoy DSC much more.

o_O now @PHOENIX PHIL when have you seen me in black tie at SCI???? boots and jeans.....:E Hmmm::unsure: maybe i have actually been going to DSC and not SCI all these years and never realised....;) never been to DSC but have been going to SCI since 1990 and have seen it grow and grow. you would have an eye opening experience whichever you choose to attend. i have had friends come to SCI with me and its very amusing watching their reactions ....the kid in the candy store ....well multiply that by 100 :D

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
