Politics

As a Trump skeptical conservative, I appreciate, even if not always in agreement with, many of your contributions to the political discussion.

That said, I have enormous respect for @Scott CWO. You, I do not know form Adam. But he brings a hands on, hunting related business perspective that the typical dilatant on this site does not. Perhaps you were indeed the Teddy Roosevelt of our era ending wars and rubbing elbows with the great and the good. Though, from my experience the latter is rather overrated and oversold.

But to the quotes above - while, I suppose, somewhat more articulate - they are exactly the sort of nonsense about which you have spent numerous pages castigating @Brent in Az.
It's an old school Canadian thing Red Leg. We remain polite until we think someone is wanting to take us into the corners hard, and then it's "elbows up."

However it is entirely possible I overreacted to what I perceived as his aggression, but as you will note I did offer to buy him a beer and wished him every success in his hunting endeavours at the end of it all.

I think political debate is kind of like playing rugby, you go hard as hell during the match and then have a friendly beer together afterwards.

@Mark A Ouellette excellent post! One slight error in the part about Ted Roosevelt. There was one other Army General that landed on D-Day, Norman "Dutch" Cota.

Note: In the movie, "The Longest Day", Henry Fonda played Ted Roosevelt and Robert Mitchum played Cota.

Cota was one of the highest-ranking officers on the beach that day. After landing on the beach, he personally rallied shell-shocked, pinned-down survivors to open one of the first vehicle exits off the beach.[6] Cota and his men advanced to the seawall, where they used Bangalore torpedoes and wire cutters to punch through. They then destroyed a machine-gun nest, after which they made a breakthrough from Omaha Beach.[15][16][17] Two quotes Cota spoke during the initial fighting later became famous:

In a meeting with Max Schneider, commander of the 5th Ranger Battalion, Cota asked "What outfit is this?" Someone yelled, "5th Rangers!" In an effort to inspire Schneider's men to leave the cover of the seawall and advance through a breach, Cota replied, "Well, God damn it, if you are Rangers, then get up there and lead the way!"[6] "Rangers lead the way" became the motto of the U.S. Army Rangers.[18]

He was also credited with calmly rallying his troops with the statement "Gentlemen, we are being killed on the beaches. Let us go inland and be killed."[19]

For his heroic leadership on D-Day and in the days and weeks afterwards, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC)
But unlike Roosevelt, Cota was in the second wave rather than the first. Of course, had Cota been in the first wave at Omaha, he likely would never have had the opportunity to rally those troops. Others landed as well. BG William Wydman, ADC of the 1ID, landed and was instrumental in getting men and equipment moving beyond the beach. Brigadier Simon Fraser (Lord Lovat) led his commando brigade ashore to relieve the British glider troops holding Pegasus Bridge.

Of course, Major Generals Ridgeway and Taylor, along with their ADC's, Gavin and Pratt (killed in his glider's landing) of the 82d and 101st Airborne, beat everyone ashore long before dawn on 6th of June.

For crying out loud! Now Trump blames the Norwegian government for him not getting last year's Nobel Peace Prize. He has been told repeatedly the Norwegian govt has nothing to do with the Peace Prize. And nominations for 2025 prize had to be in to the Committe on February 1, 2025 just a couple days after he was sworn in. In the same letter to the Norwegian prime minister he claims the US had boats landing in Greenland before the Danish vikings. What!? Doesn't he get someone to type up this crazy stuff? Surely even a temp secretary would have enough smarts to know that's utter bullshit. "Um ... Mr President maybe you might want to check on this one." But when has fact checking ever been important to Trump. Has anyone ever before whined because they didn't get the Peace Prize? That's a first for sure. His claim in the Norwegian letter that he's personally stopped eight wars is nonsense. This guy is totally out of touch with reality. Clearly he's trying to send a message to the Nobel Committe that they better give him the prize this year or else. Very peaceful. Such a statesman. We can recycle Teddy Roosevelt's mantra for Trump: "Speak nonsense and carry a big stick."

The US has had a treaty with Denmark since 1950 allowing US to build military posts on Greenland. A good deal for all concerned. Not once has Denmark ever rejected a request. But now Trump has doubtless queered that arrangement for good. Very statesmanlike. What a boob.

I agree it is much easier to push the ignore buttom rather then try to make an argument for ones case, but at least for my self I feel that its the easy way of handling things, I rather read everyones viewpoint and if it is to crazy/weird I just dont engage, but each to his own.

If one uses the Ignore buttom the thread would probably just end up containing those individuals sharing the same belief as ones own and thus much less interesting, but like I wrote, I guess its just a matter of taste :)

I have at least 20 people on my ignore list. The bulk of which are not from my country, or they simply are trolls. I'm sure I'm on other peoples ignore list. I really don't care.
The incessant whining and Trump bashing gets to a point of being intolerable. It's like listening to a classroom full of wailing and whining children.
I don't need to listen to someone from thousands of miles away telling us " American yokels" how our country should be run, when the very country they live in may have problems of its own.
Having an opposing viewpoint is one thing, being a Trump bashing keyboard warrior who is trying to be relevant is another
At the end of the day, whatever Trump does, has little to no negative impact on most lives abroad.
But these days, thanks to the Democrats, globalists , and the cesspool of the MSM, Trump bashing and complaining seems to be En vogue.

@Ontario Hunter

Who are you talking to? Do you work
yourself up into such a frenzy that you feel the need to step out of your hovel and cry out into the wilderness “Orange man bad!!! Beware!!”

Is it so all-consuming? An attempt to save us from ourselves, and make us see the light?

There is also this treaty between Denmark and the USA concerning the US purchase of the danish west india Islands and the US recognition of danish ownership of Greenland. Might be a good read for Trump when he goes on about that boat a couple of hundred years ago.

Or for anyone who wants to read the actual treaty: https://www.doi.gov/sites/doi.gov/files/uploads/vitreaty.pdf

Get your head out of the sand. The nonsense Trump spews is not the "mainstream media" speaking. It's the goofy crap that he writes on his own social media platform or on his White House letterhead. Or the nonsense that falls out of his mouth on a daily basis live in front of cameras and microphones. I'm not bashing Trump ... he's bashing himself ... over and over and over. And he's bashing those who blindly voted for him ... just because he's "conservative" ... supposedly. Do some fact checking and you'll find he's switched parties more than once. Four times if memory serves me correctly.

This video is of Megyn Kelly joined by Secretary of State Marco Rubio for an exclusive interview about if the Trump administration is serious about wanting to buy Greenland, the national interest America has in Greenland, what sort of negotiations could be coming, and more.

Marco Rubio explains Trumps logic and negotiating style. Gosh I tried to educate others on AH concerning Turmp's business style but Rubio nails it in a few hundred words.

Once again, while a very flawed person, Trump is doing more good than harm. If anyone thinks they could do the overall job better, go ahead and enter into politics. I'm waiting...

Trump is a great example of the lesser of evils...

PS: If you can't see the video, Rubio states Trump's desire to buy Greenland is strategic to prevent Russia or China from seizing it. Do you all remember when the Russians in their wheeled armored personnel carriers, BMP, arrived at Pristina Airport ahead of the US Army and captured it?

Then there was the time the Russians in black pajamas, not uniforms seized the Crimea... They seem to be pretty good at slipping in and taking control.

Perhaps Trump has some logic in wanting to control Greenland. Presently, would NATO go to war over a few strategic Russian outposts in northeast Greenland. Outposts from which Ivan could control the shipping lanes.

Then there are the Chinese. They think strategy in centuries, not years. Gosh knows what they are up to but whatever it is, I trust the Ruskies more than the Chinese. Russia will make mistakes, the Chinese will not.

Rubio in the video also states that Trump's negotiating style is common in business. Start the discussion asking for the world!

Finally, here is some history for all,

Sure, your TDS as Canadians is showing.

Ceasefire in Gaza. Iran’s nuclear program debilitated. A possible Iranian revolution. Removal of a socialist dictator in Venezuela. Renewal of the Monroe Doctrine in the Western Hemisphere. Getting NATO to pay up.

His only two missteps are Greenland (so far) and not standing up enough to Putin. He’s 6-2 so far. Not bad.
pretty much what i was gonna write, thanks for saving me the time. trump is NOT perfect, but overall, would say he was much better than the alternative. nobody bats 1000, nobody.

Well, I'd call the way he went about tariffs a misstep as well. Unlike what he says we, the customer, are paying for it, not the countries that we are imposing tariffs on. Anecdotally, I have paid tens of thousands in tariffs to date, and almost all gets passed on other than personal items. There was a reason Trump did not want Amazon to itemize tariffs on their pricing.

Who knows what or why Donald Trump is doing...? Well gentlemen, Trump doesn't need the money but Trump the investor is not dead!
Point is if he doesn't have insider information, who does. Those on the right jump on Pelosi etc. for enriching herself while in office, but hey "Trump is an investor".

The ability of absolute Trump supporters to look the other way or attempt to rationalize what he does is every bit the same thing as those who supported Biden or any other Democrat, and every bit as frustrating. It would be nice if the same standard was applied to all. I for one don’t believe all of this with Greenland is bluster or trying to make a deal, and I look forward to the day when we have someone in the White House that acts like an adult and has a modicum of decorum.

I can envision why one could think that.

From the quoted WSJ article, https://www.wsj.com/business/media/...f?st=mePN5c&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink
"The form didn’t disclose if an outside firm executed the trades on Trump’s behalf. The transactions weren’t given exact values, but the disclosure form provided ranges; some were in the $15,001 to $50,000 band, while at the high end, others were listed in the range of just over $1 million to $5 million."

If it were me, I'd turn over control of my investments to a fund manager.

The entire problem is a lack of military service! In the Marines...
"The perception of wrong doing is in fact wrong doing!" How many times did I hear that? Hundreds, at least. Why, because of just this sort of thing. If the troops, and to the President we are all essentially the troops (voters if you must), think for a second that an officer or senior enlisted received anything extra, a perk, the conspiracy theories would begin. Leaders inspire others to greatness but it’s hard to inspire if the troops think you are not honest question.

A few months at Parris Island and/or Quantico would have instilled integrity in Trump. Lack of military service is the problem.

Put down the Avocado toast.......and take a deep breath.

Bingo! A lack of integrity. (coupled with other worldly narcissism)

The Chinese threat to US security via Greenland is absurd. Anyone who looks at a map can figure that out. Maybe Trump needs to annex Mars for the same reason? His grasp of geography is no better than his background in history or economics or science. So stupid he actually believed he could run for a third term. Or maybe he just thought the Constitution doesn't apply to him. Sad thing is the Supreme Court seems to be supporting that vision of himself. His crusade against vaccinations makes about as much scientific sense as his cure for autism. Or drinking disinfectant to cure COVID. His tarrif on aluminum made no sense for a country that doesn't have the resources (either bauxite, cryolite, or sufficient electricity) to make what it needs. And it needs lots of aluminum for national defense. But wait ... aren't we supposed to be concerned about national security? Isn't that what the Greenland grab is all about? The countries who export bauxite to US get slapped with big tarrifs on their aluminum products. So they just compensate by hiking the price of ore they're selling to US. Or just stop selling to the US altogether. How does that help the economy ... or keep the vital aircraft industries going?

Seriously?
He didn't get the Nobel prize, so that justifies taking over Greenland? He surprises me each and every day in regard to size of his ego.

Thanks for posting the actual letter. It reads even worse than what the evil "mainstream media" was reporting! Unbelievable. I can see why some govt temp secretary typing that letter didn't advise him to fact check first. Any kid in the eighth grade would have done a better job putting that letter together. Trump obviously typed it himself. How embarrassing. I never considered Reagan or George W. Bush to be very sharp crayons but their personal correspondence was high school level articulation or better. The content of this letter to Norwegian prime minister is shockingly devoid of any sensible substance; complimented with Trump's typical childish articulation. This is shameful. Just more nonsense from the Idiot-in-Chief.
