Think I'm going to treat the stock with a little Behlen's, then strip the heavy grease off the metal. She'll be good to go, except for adding a peep sight (taking recommendations on that) or maybe a scope. Thinking about a Leupold VX-3i on that front.

The guy I bought the rifle from recommends Talley peeps. My only gripe about that is there are no elevation adjustments for the Talleys. Does Williams make a peep that will mount on a Weaver-style base? I've been looking and looking and can't find anything.

This is a Zastava M70 - a civilianized Mauser 98, so no hump, but it is a lefty.

Congrats on the new acquisition!

sgt Zim!!!!!! The bolt is on the wrong side!!!lol
Ought to make a good rifle, what chambering?

This is a standard hunting rifle in the former Yugoslav Republics. The first time I saw one in Croatia 20 years ago, I thought it was a Winchester M70. And it had a Mag Lite taped to the barrel for spotlighting! Have no idea if that was legal there or not! Should last you forever. Good Luck!

Congrats!!

Maybe an older Lyman 48 for a Rem. 700 or M 70?

Congrats sir!

Nice!

I think I found my peeps - Williams WGRN-FN.

Oh am I jealous! A 9.3x62 has been calling me primarily as a dark woods elk gun. Unfortunately...you got it instead of me:cry:! Enjoy and update on how she shoots.

For now, it'll be used primarily for feral hogs, but we're moving to MT as soon as my oldest stepson graduates HS in 2021. So...elk, mulies, black bear, bison, and moose (assuming I can ever get lucky enough to win a tag for the latter two).

sgt_zim Yes I have used both, the williams work just fine but I would recommend the NECG over them. I have them on a CZ, and several rugers.

Sgt Zim, I have a Williams peep sight on my Marlin Lever Action. I also have NECG receiver sights for both of my recently purchased large bore rifles i.e. a 416 Rigby and a 404 Jeffery. Believe me, there is no comparison between the two. For the 9.3 x 62 get the NECG rear sight providing they have one available for your rifle.

They have one that will mount on a Weaver base. If they have one that will fit a Mauser 98 receiver, I do not see it.

Thanks much to @AZDAVE and @Shootist43 for the recommendation.

Do you guys reckon this to be an adequate base: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/687855/weaver-grand-slam-top-mount-scope-base-s45-matte

Read the description of the rifle for which the S45 base is intended. I think you will see it is for the "Small Ring" Mauser. I think you need the Weaver "45" base, it is for the "Large Ring" Mauser that your Zastava most likely is. Midway currently has this mount on sale.

Hey Odinsraven. Is that post from Jefferry 404 legitimate? I don't know him. Thanks!

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
