Lion Hunt South Africa Kalahari 2022 Starting At US$6,000

Just to show how small the hunting world is.
We have a hunter in camp right now who harvested a lioness today.
His nickname on the site is Para45.
He bought a 375 H&H rifle from degoins who hunted with us last year.
What a coincidence!!
Our season for this year is very full.
Have a few weeks open in October and November of this year (2022)
We are already taking bookings for 2023 and the dates are filling up for next year so if you want to do a lion hunt do not wait too long.
Sincerely
Hans de Klerk
@PARA45 … How Awesome all your hard work & preparation for your Lioness Hunt ended in great success! I’m excited for the pics & equally alittle jealous! ;)

Think I need to work harder or rather make a way to print money faster but I think 2023 might be time for another lion if not for me maybe my son.

Nice offer!

This is such a tease... and such a bucket list item. But we are all wired differently and I can't get past the thought of not being able to bring it home. *sigh* And Oscar... congrats man. I can't wait to see pictures. I am thrilled for you.

Gentlemen (and I am sure a few Ladies as well)

See below an extract from a speech that our dear minister of Environmental Affair Barbara Greecy made to our National Assembly.
She is anti hunting and wants to shut down all lion hunting in South Africa.
This speech was delivered on May 18, 2022.
The "Panel of Experts" that she is talking about contains a lot of anti hunting people.
Not a single lion breeder or safari operator or Professional Hunter sits on the "Panel of Experts".
The "High Level Panel Report" is so skewed against hunting and it has such impractical suggestions that it can never work in the real world.

Following on that speech Ms Greecy published on July 8, 2022 a 76 page WHITE PAPER in our Government Gazette (where all new laws and regulations get published).
In the WHITE PAPER she gives us the public only 60 days to comment on issues on how to manage our own wildlife. We have commented in the past on these white papers and never received any response from the government so my guess is our "comments" end up in the trash bin.

So the ball is in motion and it is only a matter of time before lion hunting in South Africa will be shut down. Maybe forever as once a government makes a decision to shut down something it is almost impossible to get the government to reverse that decision.

So for you guys out there who still want to hunt a lion at affordable prices now is the time to do it.
You can always do the plains game or buffalo hunt later but the window on lion hunts in South Africa is closing fast.
Next year might be too late.

Just wanted to share this with you so you guys know what is going on here in South Africa.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

PS. See report below

MINISTER OF FORESTRY, FISHERIES AND THE ENVIRONMENT, MS BARBARA CREECY, DELIVERS BUDGET VOTE FOR 2022/23 TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

*18 MAY 2022*

Honourable Members,

A year ago I released the High Level Panel Report which reviewed policies, legislation and practices related to the management, breeding, hunting, trade and handling of elephant, lion, leopard and rhinoceros.

In June 2021 the Department released a draft Policy Position for public comment which covered some of the panel’s key recommendations. The public comment process solicited over 9000 comments from widely divergent views.

Accordingly, the Department decided to proceed with the development of a White Paper on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of South Africa’s Biodiversity.

The White Paper will be considered by Cabinet during June this year, whereafter it will be published for public comment.

*We don’t have to wait for the White Paper to formalise new approaches and practices in line with the High Level Panel’s recommendations. Certain measures can proceed now on a mutually agreed basis.*

On the issue of the captive lion industry, *I intend to establish a Panel of Experts to formulate and oversee implementation* of a voluntary exit strategy for those who wish to participate .

I believe that by engaging and working with stakeholders, we can develop a voluntary strategy that can mitigate risks, including the effect on the local economy, job creation and the welfare and well-being of the lions themselves.

This Panel will have clearly defined terms of reference, and tight timelines, so that effect can be given to the HLP recommendation, and the decision emanating from the 2018 Parliamentary Colloquium on Lions.

South Africa also needs a species recovery plan for white rhino, which considers the poaching crisis, and the potential we have to breed of white rhino in controlled environments for conservation purposes, in support of conserving rhino in extensive wildlife systems.

I believe that such a plan can be *developed in partnership with private rhino owners*, giving effect to the Panel recommendations in a voluntary win-win scenario. I have requested SANParks to lead the development of such a recovery plan as a key element of their work in this financial year.

Parliament has approved an amendment to the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, which will enable the development of legislation at national level relating to the well-being of wildlife.

We are in the process of establishing a wildlife welfare forum that will promote biodiversity conservation and the ecologically sustainable, responsible and humane use and management of wildlife.

Looking for a Lion & Lioness combo for a long time . I think this will be my year of once in a life time experience :) PM sent

Can you go into detail about the different levels of the male lions?

Welcome to AH! This being your first post, i'm sure many would love to hear about your past hunting adventures. We are suckers for good hunting stories...tell away.

@Huntforever … welcome to AH. A majority of AH members are past or present Hunters, Outdoor Enthusiast’s & equally Teachers of this great heritage …

FYI: scroll back to page 1, Hans original post/offer defines Lion Level A - D w/ pictorial reference.

Happy Trails here & abroad …

Can you go into detail about the different levels of the male lions?
Hello Huntforever
Like Jaegger says : Please scroll back to page 1 of this post.

There is a full description with photos of every level.
Basically Level A is for young lions.
Level D is for older lions with full mane.
As the lions get older they develop more mane and gets more expensive because they catch more game and cost us more money.
So every Level you go up in age the mane get exponentially fuller and bigger (longer) and the price of the lion also goes up.

Feel free to ask if you do not understand.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

@DE KLERK SAFARIS

Hi Hans, thx for the latest Governmental release. I‘m following AH Lioness Hunt posts & my 2022 work schedule is a bust!

A search on the topic yields limited info but very interesting posturing & news release spins from the Minister of Forestry, 2018, 2020 & now 2022. Plus, conveniently no mention on defined CBL guidance under PHASA or SA Predator Association.

For Outfitters close to CBL Breeders & Hunting … curious, how to interpret this paragraph: “On the issue of the captive lion industry. I intend to establish a Panel of Experts to formulate and oversee implementation of a voluntary exit strategy for those who wish to participate.”

The paragraph that follows equally addresses “… working w/ stakeholders & develop a voluntary strategy …”

Happy Trails

Hello Jaegger
I agree with you 100 %.
Minister Barbara Greecy is very vague about what she is going to do and what her plans are for CBL.
So what will happen if the captive lion industry do not wish to participate in the "voluntary exit strategy". Will the government come and confiscate our lions and put them all to death.
That will make for some good film footage (against the Greenies) to show how 8000 plus captive lions in South Africa are being euthanised by our government. One of my friends who have seen it tells me that the lions took about 30 to 40 minutes to die after being injected by a vet. My friend said that even after the "dead" lions were loaded on a farm trailer in a pile he saw that some lions in the pile were still moving their eyes and opening and closing their jaws when the tractor was driving away with them.
How is that more ethical than to hunt it with a bullet that kills in a few seconds?
How does euthanising lions contribute to conservation?

Hunting contributes directly towards conservation because money spent with us goes straight back into buying more land for conservation, feeding animals in times of drought, pumping water for animals when there is no water, increasing the numbers of animals in many ways, meat for our workers, jobs and wages, getting rid of invasive bush species, creating good grass and grazing for animals, etc. Hunters also support a whole lot of other businesses and entities like taxidermists, travel agents, airline companies, hotels, lodges and guesthouses, car rental companies, food and groceries, liquor and bottled water industries, government permits and license fees, local communities, etc.

I think Minister Greecy herself does not know what she wants to do and what all the practical implications are of her decisions.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

Hans, That sums it up for most politicians. They don't know beans about what they speak. They only speak for attention, fame, and wealth.

One of my favorite movies is from 1939, "Mr. Smith goes to Washington", staring Jimmy Stewart.

I am following issue on captive bread lion policy, and long going debate.
One thing is not clear.

If we are speaking about hunting in South Africa - where all, or most hunting is done in fenced property, then the question is:

How to make difference between:

- wild lion hunting (in fenced property)
- captive bread lion hunting (in fenced property)

How the government will make difference between the two?

There need to be a set of Norms and Standards from the South African governments side (just like SAPA and PHASA has their norms and standards).
Sadly our government is too incompetent to have or publish their own norms and standards.
In it they should have requirements for how large your property has to be to be considered big enough for lions to roam free. They should have a minimum period that the lions must be free roaming in order to be classified as wild. Sadly that will never happen with our minister who is determined to shut down ALL lion hunting.
There are a lot of outfitters who hunt their lions on small fenced in properties with short release periods. Make sure you book with one of the only 8 SAPA (South African Predator's Association) approved outfits. They have already passed the stringent tests of SAPA's norms and standards.
SAPA and PHASA has coordinated to bring their norms and standards in line.
We are members of both and our lion hunting operation qualifies for both organisation's norms and standards.
I wish the government can bring out their own norms and standards that can be even more severe (larger area and / or longer free roaming time) than SAPA or PHASA's but then we have a standard to work with. Then only the true large extensive hunting areas will qualify.

Hope that explains your question Mark-Hunter.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

Hi Hans,

I respect your raw honest feedback on the topic & it can only be truly articulated w/ accuracy from someone within the industry who‘s directly connected to the breeders, how that is managed, followed by a reputable hunting operator who manages the hunt on strict protocols. You are definitely that reputable Guy, Voice, & Outfitter so thanks for that!

Agreed, the Minister has Loud Opinions without a proper Plan which fuels unhinged media to brazenly lie & write hit pieces w/o any accountability which seems the Political & Media trend today! Add in the ever growing # of Internet or Social Media headline skimmers (not article readers) who mindlessly share the brazen lies as truths & you have a perfect disinformation storm!

I see this discussion turning into a significant Sh!t Show for the Minister of Forestry IF she fails to properly organize a reputable Panel of Experts, forces an unrealistic timeline, or blatantly deceives, misquotes, or ignores reputable Breeders & Hunting Operators actually adhering to defined CBL hunting protocols.

The Ministers Office should focus on the scrupulous outfitters, 10% causing 90% of the poor headlines.

Yip, Million Dollar $$ Question: what about the +/- 8,000 lions today!?

I‘m 110% tracking ALL Hunting is an act of conservation & your many stout examples really highlight the # of business supported “outside” the Hunting Circle vs. “inside” the Hunting Circle.

@PARA45 is a friend & nothing but respect over his hunting experience w/ De Klerk Safaris!

Happy Trails!

I see the Minister's approach like the anti-gun communities here in the US. These organizations will never be satisfied until we are all disarmed and there is no more hunting. Their end game is to ban all hunting. What will be next, giraffe, elephants, cheetahs, they are all cute and part of the Lion King group. I'd say don't give up Hans, and don't give them an inch. Stick to your guns. (y)

Congrats to Para45! Not sure how to make his name turn blue lol
Regardless of politics, congrats!!

Thank you! What do you mean?
