I been all over AH the last couple days after realizing that hunting Africa is doable for normal people. I've been to Uganda for a humanitarian trip (rifle no included) and would love to go hunt plains game, especially the kudu. Is anybody a service member that has been able to hunt Africa? Planning a year in advance is really difficult since plans change a lot. Is there a way to fill vacancies for people who canceled?

TLDR; this site has been a fantastic resource already and I look forward to spending a lot more time here with y'all.

Welcome!

And thank you for your service!

With the economy the way it is right now last minute hunts aren't that difficult. ...

Here is what I'd do. I'd research just like I was going to out down a big deposit a year in advance. Find the right outfitter for you and the right area for the game you want etc.... Have a "top three" list and let them know upfront it will be a fairly last minute decision.

Then, when it is time and you can fit up, call and see if scheduling permits. You can always move to number two if it doesn't.

Royal,

Thanks a bunch! Is there a "best" country and region to go for Kudu? preferably greater Kudu. Also, do any of the African states ban suppressors?

I'll get started on compiling that list!

Welcome to the forum and good luck. Do not give up on the dream.

Gladly!

"best" is such a relative term.... Areas like the Limpopo in SA are known for big kudu as is Northern Namibia, among others. Some place like the Eastern Cape won't have monster horn size, but it is still a greater Kudu and the cost will be less.

Not sure about all African countries, but suppressors are very common in SA.

Enjoy the planning.

Welcome aboard! Thank you for your service!

Welcome to AH Tobes232. Plenty of great Kudu in South Africa and folks cancel often! The thing to do is contact a couple of outfitters with dates that you can go....short term or long term, and they will work with you. Other countries have outfitters as well that you can email about your hunt list and when you can go.

Welcome to AH! Thanks much for your service!!

What sling studs do those swivels fit ? They look to be quite a bit wider than the standard modern swivels. They may be just what I need for my Remington 30 Express wide swivel studs. Can you measure the pin diameter ?
