Attempted Robbery at Africa Sky Guesthouse

Razor wire around the perimeter wall would be a good start.

If the bars are large enough for a person to come thru, how would that benefit in keeping intruders out.

Bars on Windows were they can fit through the window

Neither a LEO or security professional, but I'm thinking bars on all windows large enough for a person to come through would be a proper addition.

If your post was in reference to mine. What I meant was bars on windows, where the windows are large enough for someone to come thru. Not all windows are necessarily large enough for a person to fit thru.

bars spaced close enough so no one can squeeze through, not even a skinny person.

Gentlemen, I deal with this issue everyday at work. I am a homebuilder. NEVER have bars you cannot get out of in a bedroom. In the industry we call that a barbeque. Same thing with 2 sided deadbolts that require a key on both sides. I agree they need more security, but never spend the night (willingly) in a place with bars on the windows.

very good point.

Sad day for USA, prayers to the family and friends.

What is wrong with these evil humans!

It's the little things that help make a house a home...........:)

I got to know a South African family here in Lagos. After several years of living abroad, they moved back to Joburg about a year ago. They had been in their Joburg home for all of a week or two, when they had a home invasion in the middle of the day. Several thugs tied them up and robbed them. Police theorized the thugs followed the moving truck when their household shipment arrived and simply observed as the movers unloaded the truck.

Africasky looked very unsecure to me when I stayed there which is why I went back to staying at Afton House.

Good point. It appears those open from the inside, so not so bad in case of fire, as long as you are coherent enough to open them.

In northern cape now with a longtime ph. Family has lived in rsa for hundreds of years. Told me never stay overnight away from the joburg airport.
On the way here I stayed in blomfontein b&b. Bathroom window had a bullet hole in it.

You will go to jail. Maybe you will get out maybe not no matter the circumstances if you shoot someone in Africa.
I’ll be staying at City Lodge or the Intercontinental if overnighting in JNB.

usually bolted to the wall or built in....when most were built / put in there would have been no option of opening varieties.....mine have big bolts....must remember to find the right size spanner to keep under the pillow....;)
