For those who might be looking over their shoulders a little more than most, you can review the following about posting your "negative" hunt reports.

Social Media and Defamation


With the rise of social media, it’s now easier than ever to make a defamatory statement. That’s because social media services like Twitter and Facebook allow you to instantly "publish" a statement that can reach thousands of people. Whether it’s a disparaging blog post, Facebook status update, or YouTube video, online defamation is treated the same way as more traditional forms. That means you can be sued for any defamatory statements you post online.

Generally speaking, in order to win a lawsuit, you must show that:

1. Someone made a statement;
2. that statement was published;
3. the statement caused you injury;
4. the statement was false; and
5. the statement did not fall into a privileged category.

FYI: HERE IS YOUR BEST DEFENSE:
Falsity -- Defamation law will only consider statements defamatory if they are, in fact, false. A true statement, no matter how harmful, is not considered defamation. In addition, because of their nature, statements of opinion are not considered false because they are subjective to the speaker.

Ask a lawyer if needs be. It is what they do.

Since I joined here I have learnt to take whatever Tap said with a bag of salt.

As for hunting a CITES animal without the correct paperwork, if so the Outfitter and PH should have known the law regarding and informed you, however ignorance is not above the law, you yourself should also have verified what paperwork was required and should not hunt such an animal if the paperwork is not in hand.

With so many years of experience and having lost the bulk of what you claim to one hunting outfit, you either learn very slowly or you were in on the deal from the start.

This is my view from the scant information you have posted or as you have mentioned in some of your posts before, you may just be ranting again to entice some reaction from the forum or just stir the pot again as you like to do.

Let me just respond only to jerome as the rest of you do not know me.

Jerome we've sat down on several occasions and talked. I believe you know me to be sincere.

My losses came over the last 10 years in hunting in Africa on over 20 or 30 safaris.

Most of the lost animals came at the hands of numzaan safaris and one other outfitter I only mention In private messages due to the fact they have threatened my life with very real threats.

Numzaan let me shoot an African wildcat and mount it only to find out they did not have the cites tags needed to hunt the animal. This is only one of many facts against them. After responding to my pm box I discovered numzaan has a very long history with unhappy clients so I do not hesitate to mention them here.

Not one single word I have typed is in anger or retribution.

I don't know if you truly understand this jerome but I have had a lot of dealings in Africa and I refused to say a single word for so long.

I once was a man who held his head high. I am self employed with many men and oil rigs in the field. Every word I say is ABSOLUTELY monitored by my competitors, and somehow, always used to destroy me around the business table. I have since been humbled beyond means and I no longer have much fight or bite left in me. For the most part I merely sit back and watch from afar these days.

Over the years I have learned to hold my tongue and just watch the world turn and only speak when my words make the most impact.

I do not want issues and I do not want to hurt those I consider a friend. I dont think you and J can ever truly understand that I have have complete respect for you. I value your presence and opinion. I think you are truly a great man.

That being said I see several outfits on this very site that I know are taking advantage of people. How do I know this? It's simple. The hunting community in Africa is very small and I have travelled a lot in the last 15 years.

Remember when you were discussing starting Africa hunting and he and J said they were going to start a chip and dales calendar using African ph's??? Hahahaha. Anyways he thinks the world of you as well but has had to step away from this site due the sub par people that's are acting as vultures in here.


How you keep these people from this site and how you protect the hunters on here is probably a futile task but my inbox is a start to a quiet list of outfitters not to use and right now it is being called upon quite extensively. So with a clear conscience I can at least say I feel I am doing something to help the honest guy out there.

First of all my compliments to Jerome for a remarkably patient and mature response to the original post. I know that had to be difficult, particularly with regard to the 95% integrity crack. That would completely and forever sever any relationship I had with such a person. I also tried to overlook the context in which the original "allegations" were made, merely stating the obvious about anyone having this many run-ins with outfitters might start to question their own behavior and expectations.

The second posting makes context hard to ignore. It is difficult for me to take seriously anyone who sounds like a raving schizophrenic. "Every word is monitored" and all your business competitors or out to "destroy" you - God forbid that you might be capable of making a poor business decision? In your original post you stated "nearly all" outfitters had threatened law suits, and now, an outfitter is threatening to kill you? If I were any outfitter, I wouldn't take your contract at double the daily rate - and were I a new international hunter, yours would be the last opinion that I would seek.

I have twice hunted CITES animals, and in both cases the permit was on me - not the outfitter/ not the shipping agent/ and certainly not the taxidermist. With all your proclaimed experience, perhaps your outfitter merely assumed you were competent and knew what you were doing.

The post you made in direct response to a hunt report I was in the process of posting, which I had not yet even said one word about the hunt or Numzaan Safaris yet, seemed full of emotion to me. It was my opinion and the opinion of others that you quite evidently had an axe to grind. It appeared to be an unhinged man's rant to me.
I told @BRICKBURN in a reply to his PM to me that I had absolutely no issue with him restoring your post and my response to it. In his wise judgement he felt it was better for everyone on this site that it just remain deleted. I support that decision.
HOWEVER, in light of this thread you have started, and your most recent post, I respectfully suggest that either BRICKBURN or Jerome post that exchange up here in this thread for all to see. Let everyone make their own judgement. I have the corresponence in my email if it is needed.
You seem to want to "dodge" the rest of the folks here on AH and now confine your dealings with Jerome. Yet, when you made that post a few days ago, you seemed to want to single me out, thump your chest about how many times you've been to Africa, insult and belittle me, and berate one specific individual at Numzaan yet spread the stain over the entire organization.
You jumping into that hunt report prior to me even posting anything about the hunt suggests to me you wished to have the first word and influence peoples opinion right out of the chute.
Go ahead and say whatever you want at this point, but from where I sit you have absolutely ZERO credibility. I think you live in a warped and distorted reality where truth is like water vapor. You can see it, but you just can't wrap your hands around it. Hell, I doubt you even know what the truth is anymore.
I held my tongue until now out of respect for everyone on this site, including you. I wanted to afford you the courtesy and respect it never even occurred to you to afford me. After all of this I am still at a loss as to who all of these outfitters/businesses are that you keep referring to and if indeed any are actually sponsors? Especially the one who threatened your life! I can assure you that if a sponsor here has threatened your life I need to know about it and the circumstances and story surrounding that threat.

If someone is knowingly giving safe harbor to crooks then they are in my book a crook as well. And that is what you are saying I am doing.... I take great insult in that because that could not be further from the truth! By not publicly sharing your "list" (I am not just talking about sponsors) as a matter of fact you are giving these dark players protection from the public eye. They also deserve a fair shake to get their side of the story heard. There is always two sides to every story and then there is the truth. You would be surprised at how good most people's instincts are at sniffing out the truth given the opportunity to hear both parties out.

On one hand you are accusing me of protecting these dark players on the site, but you have never even shared with me privately who these outfitters or businesses are or what they have done to you specifically. However you are willing to share this list of bad hombres with anyone who will send you a PM? I am confused by this as you have never even shared the names of the outfits with me..... I would think I would be the first person that you would have come to, but here I am still waiting.

Aside from the fact that you have impugned my character I am actually most upset about the fact that by continuing these vague accusations you call into question ALL of the sponsors of AH rather than the ones you have had a negative experience with. Why would you want to make those who you do not even know or have never interacted with suffer collateral damage from these blanket statements?

If you are not willing to share the whole story than I am not sure what the entire purpose of this thread is except to discredit or call into question my integrity and that of AH as a whole. That is not acceptable.

I bit my tongue on this until it bled as I wasn't going to post but alas now I'm pissed.

1) I am a sponsor, I spend a lot of money annually to have the opportunity to advertise here and am damned proud to be part of this community.
2) this is the only website I advertise on as it is the only one that is properly run and has integrity that I've found this far in the realm of the internet shenanigans.
3) I've had the absolute honor of meeting and speaking with Jerome. He is a 100% stand up guy and is the very definition of integrity.
4) the moderators do a great job of vetting and also exposing those who are crooks. These individuals and companies are banned immediately as soon as there is actual proof of foul play. I've seen it many many times.
5) If, and I stress if, you have indeed lost 120k and 30 some odd animals I would have certainly taken pause and looked real hard at this after an animal or two and a few grand and honestly asked my self, "Is it me" as it most likely is.
I have to agree with Royal. As much as buyer beware is a fact so is outfitter beware. Be careful who you take on as a client as there are certain people who will never be happy no matter what.

I truly hate these types of posts where no facts are stated, blanket accusations. Not all safaris go to plan every time, but hell most of the outfitters I know work their arses off to make a safari successful. One unhappy client does more damage than the good words from 20 clients.

To Jerome, Wayne and Sonja keep up with the great work you do.

I gave Tap some suggestions for his buffalo hunt, outfitters I know would do excellent job, I think it was for his honeymoon trip. Don't know if he contacted them or....

When someone comes on this site and can not fit in they have a problem. They may have issues they don't know about with how they do things.
This site makes it easy to get info and share info. Even people who you may not always agree with will help when you ask a question. It may not be perfect but I know of no other site better then Ah for hunters.

I couldn't agree with this more! I used to frequent a ton of hunting sites. Over time they became obnoxious and full of "trash talkers" similar to what we are discussing here. I no longer participate in those forums and AH is the only one I visit.

Hats off to Jerome and the moderators for maintaining an outstanding hunting forum!

Also, hats off to all the people of AH for making this such an excellent venue for information and discussion on hunting Africa!

Y'all will have to excuse me as my memory isn't so great and I admittedly drink a lot but is this Tap guy the same fellow who posted a want hunt last year I think wanting a certain size buff but would only use a particular ph of his choosing and had to have pics of said animal before he would agree to come hunt it and if they didn't kill it it was discounted or something?
