Looking for a nice place to hunt plains game in SA

Thank you all that have provided such helpful suggestions. I am busy researching the many options that have been recommended and the outfitters that have reached out to me. Based on several suggestions and what I'm reading, I am now leaning to a hunt in Namibia but haven't completely decided yet. Lots of info to digest for sure.

Hello B Frederick
We will also be a good match for what you are looking for.
We are situated in the Kalahari desert.
We have combined 8 ranches (all contiguous) into one huge block with 4 ranches high fenced into one huge hunting block with no internal fences and the other 4 ranches we run as cattle ranches where we have a lot of free roaming game like kudu, gemsbuck, springbuck, blesbuck, waterbuck and warthog, etc.
If you want a really big kudu (58 inch and over) come during the rut (May and June).
We are situated just west of Bray (borderpost on the Botswana border) and we get a lot of free roaming kudu that come out of Botswana during the rut.
The border fence is only a 4 foot fence so kudu can migrate over it with no problem.
On the Botswana side there is no hunting pressure so the kudu get the chance to grow very old.

Pick up and drop off is in Johannesburg so no extra flights needed.
Lodge has been upgraded last year so your wife will stay in luxury.
See attached some photos.
Our food is the best and our 2 chefs (Heidi and Lané) will be delighted to show your wife how to prepare some of our traditional South African dishes.

We also believe in the experience rather than stacking up trophies.
So feel free to send us and e-mail.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

Please check out Limpopo Safari's in Musina. 111K contiguous concession with incredible game.
PH Mias Cronje and his team will take great care to make your Safari dream come true. Great place for couples to hunt and enjoy the wildlife. 1 hour to Northern part of Kruger - Crooks Corner, but you'll see more game on the reserve as in Kruger. I highly recommend them. Welcome to the group. It has a wealth of knowledge and resources. The "Go to" place for Big game hunting for sure.

Like others have said, I think you would enjoy hunting the lowfence cattle ranches in Namibia.

I have hunted with site sponsor Philip @KHOMAS HIGHLAND HUNTING SAFARIS and I think you and your wife would love a safari with his team. Lots of amazing side trips. Namibia is so vast and has so few people. Really special. Huge herds of Oryx everywhere. If you hunt kudu, oryx, Hartmans zebra, warthogs, steenboks, duikers, springbok. it is all native and free range game. Real hunting for indigenous species. To me that matters

I think you and your wife would love it. After the hunt road trip to the coast or etosha NP.

Check out this offer and he even priced out the side trips.

That is a beautiful place. Could you please message me your info

I would like to extend my appreciation to all (those that have hunted Africa & outfitters) that responded to my post. Through following up with quite a few outfitters and tips from many from this post, I have learned a lot. As a result of several suggesting that Namibia would offer the style of hunt that I am looking for, I expanded my search to there. I'd like to share that I've signed up for a hunt in May/June 2027 with Ozondjahe Hunting Safaris.
One doesn't want to wish one's life away, but I'm impatiently waiting for May 2027 to come. In the meantime, there is a lot more for me to learn and I'll be practicing using shooting sticks.
Thank you again to all who took time to share with me their insights!

Congrats on making a decision and I am sure you will have a great time. I thought one and done when I did my first trip in 2018. Trip 7 is this June, you will be hooked on Africa and its people and culture

Hello. I would like to get some information and pricing on a plains game hunt. My wife would be with me as an observer. I have a pretty good idea of I want and don't want but am always open to suggestions. I would like to hunt a kudu, a gemsbuck and an impala. I am not looking for gold medal trophies, but I would like a chance to see/get solid mature bulls that meet the SCI minimum. Most important to me is the hunt be done in the spirit of fair chase. I'd rather spend a week of hard/fun hunting to get one good animal than to shoot an animal a day from the truck. I look forward to watching the native species in their native habitat. I understand the reason for fences around the property but then would like to hunt large parcels of land to make up for this. I do not want a canned hunt where animals are trucked in to a small parcel to promptly be shot. I am very interested in watching and learning a few things on how the trackers track. My wife would very much like to be able to spend some time with the cook learning a few new dishes. As far as duration of the hunt, I'm thinking 6 or 7 actual hunting days but again am open to recommendations. Before or after the hunt, we would like to sight see and see at least a few species of the Big 5 in their natural habitat, so having a large park within driving distance (like Addo or Kruger) would be great. However, if the distance is too much, we are open to making a park visit independent of the hunt. Timing wise, we're thinking the end of May of 2027, if this is when the Kudu are typically in rut in your area.

I hope this provides a little insight into what we are looking for. If your safari would be a good fit, I would appreciate learning more about your place and the people that we would be interacting with.

Thank you.
Greetings from Namibia! You will just fall in love with NAMIBIA. You can not have a better hunt to meet all your requirements than a hunt in Namibia. And with Kalahari Safari- you will have the trip of a lifetime! Contact us for your own specialised quote Janneman

From reading your initial post and wants, likes and plan, I vote for Namibia. I'm with @375Fox and @mark-hunter along with the Namibian offers. Read their posts twice and do some due diligence to confirm. Namibia provides none or low cattle fences, trackers that actually track, game galore even during black top drives outside fences and its real wild Africa, but absolutely safe. Spend a few days in Etosha Park either with outfitter or on your own if that's your ability/desire. Spend a day in roadside carving stalls where the people carve it, not buy and sell, visit a Himba village, and much more.

Not saying South Africa is bad, its just not real like Namibia.

Assessments of hunting areas are always very subjective. I also had many prejudices about some hunting areas, but after being there myself, I changed my opinion. The same applies to the Limpopo game reserve in South Africa. Certainly, there are a lot of fences there, but according to the PH's, these hardly impede the movement of the various plain game species they have many options for crossing them, and even the buffalo, that at times destroy the fences by fighting with other ones through this.

I don't want to spoil the business of any of the outfitters present in our Forum, but take a look at the PJ Safaris website. Anyone who wants to come with his wife and bag some good trophies will find excellent accommodation and hunting opportunities there. I was only in this concession for three days after a DG hunt in the area of the Krüger NP. For various reasons, I did not bag anything in the limpopo area, but I had enough time to explore the 30,000-hectare concession, have some things explained to me, and saw in the bush the high quality of the PG trophies. The Krüger NP is unfortunately a bit far, but something can be certainly arranged. I have traveled the way by car from Hoedspruit to the Limpopo game reserve in both directions without problems.

I had an excellent Safari with Blue Cliff Safaris. Kobus and Madelien Hayward are amazing hosts. I took 7 excellent animals. The food, facilities and staff are outstanding. They are also close to ADDO National Park, Scotchia game preserve, and Port Elizabeth for side trips. You really arrive as guests and leave as family!

I liked them so much I am returning this August.

Big Whoops - That should read Blue Cliff Safaris!

On a side note, I had some downtime during my trip and stumbled upon Fast Payout Casinos website while looking for something to pass the time. Honestly, it was a lifesaver when I needed a quick distraction, and their recommendations helped me find a reliable platform that didn’t make me wait forever for withdrawals. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into that sort of thing.

I second the recommendation to check out PJ Safaris. I’ve heard great things about their operation, especially for folks bringing along family.

We would love to welcome you Kalahari Safari www.kalahari-safari.com . Where you will have a great hunt and your wife will want to come back! Will gladly send you references (and where your wife can speak to the other wives!) Look forward to hear from you. Janneman Kalahari Safari Namibia

First of all I highly recommend a 10 Day safari if you have the time. There are 1,000's of outfitters out there so you will want to do some homework on this one. For you and your wife I would contact @Spear Safaris as a top choice for what you are looking for.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
