OK, apologies for letting my geeking side show with that subject line. The subject of this thread comes from inner workings of the Internet. However, it term seemed fitting for this post. Below is a chart that I found very enlightening about the speed of Africa's dangerous game. That, in turn, can translate into how long you have to live if you don't make a good shot.

where did you find this? Very interesting to say the least.

I do giggle when I here ignorant people say "the animals don't have a chance" or some such gibberish.

We haven't claws or fangs or wings. We're weak and slow. Our vision, hearing, and sense of smell is poor. Our only advantage is between our ears.

Being a bit of a nerd, I like this kind of stuff! Thanks!
So, Toby458, you had 1.03 seconds if you hadn’t weighted your lioness down so much with Barnes 270 grain bullets and less than .33 seconds when your Sako jammed and you told Seun to finish your buff! Good decision...IMO!

This chart illustrates why so many PH's carry a double rifle for DG hunts.

I get a better understanding of the instinctive speed you get with iron sights now!

This chart should also show weapon of choice. 48" tusks, 36" horn, 5" claws, razor teeth lol.

In theory I agree with the chart. Everything appears to be based on the maximum speed the animal is capable of. From a standing start there might be fractions of a second more time for a hunter and or PH to react.

At 1/4 to 1 second, even a double would be pushing it figuring recovery from recoil and reacquiring target. Just hope your PH has fast reflexes.

It took what was in between our ears to design and manufacture the guns and ammo, and to learn how to use them appropriately.

I see, said the blind man. (y)

Great example of why shot placement and no room for panic are top of the list when hunting DG.

Well, that and a gun.

And I'd rather have a gun than claws or wings!

The gun is a product of what we have between our ears.

Along with the opposable thumb.

And I was hoping this would degrade into a CRF/push-feed debate. :A Popcorn:

Normally does,,, yawn...

Are people still talking about push feed???! :ROFLMAO:

As long as there are campfires, there will be such discussions.
CRF vs PF, Synthetic vs Wood, Blued vs Stainless, Blonde, Brunette or Redhead...
