Daylight Leopard??

I am planning on going down to DSC to speak with some outfitter's about a potential Leopard hunt for 2020(already booked for 2019). I have several folks on the radar to check out, really thinking Tanzania is my best bet but not ruling out Zambia. Anyone have any ideas on where to go and who to hunt with for a big Leopard and good Buffalo with a sprinkling of plains game? Some great reports out of the Masailand area's but getting the idea that the population might be becoming more and more of a factor, just like the rest of Africa. What do you think?

Zambia, I would look up Mark Young. He’s a booking agent based in Las Vegas. He books in Zambia. I read of more daylight leopards taken there than anywhere else. But they’re not cheap.

Zambia for sure. Shooting under lights is not legal in Zambia. Luangwa Valley Leopard density is amazing. I've killed two in two trips. My total number of "sittings" for two Leopard and one Lion is 7. The duPlooy's of Muchinga Adventures are a first class outfitter. They handle every aspect, leave nothing to chance.

I don't think their Leopard Safaris are any more than most.

Another nice thing about the Luangwa is the PG hunting. There are several "Zambia only" species there; Cookson's wildebeest, Puku (some in Tanzania). You can also extend to include day trips for Kafue & Black Lechwe.

My first 2 safari's with the Duckworth's where booked through Mark and he has been telling me to go with DuPloy's since I mentioned Leopard, maybe even before I mentioned it. They are definitely high on the list. Bullet was on the list also. thanks for the reply Phil and Steve

I agree with the comments on the Luangwa Valley. More leopard sign than I’ve seen anywhere else. Another thought is Namibia. Talk to Albert Alberts, he’s been sending me pics of some real pigs he’s been killing in the past few years.

Not saying anything against the other suggestions but +1 on Namibia for daylight leopard, no night hunting there and that HELPS condition the animals that night is completely safe and that dawn and dusk may be safe too. Just my opinion if you don't want night hunting.

My guess it would be hard to pair the Buffalo hunting unless going to the Caprivi area in Namibia. Most definitely not interested in a ranch area Leopard at this time. My plan is to go after a large lowveld or Namibian cattle killer at a later date. I was thinking the big wild area's in Tanzania and Zambia is more of what I am looking for. Not that I have anything against Nambia, in fact I am stopping by Kowas Safaris for 5 days next summer on my way home from Zim. Jacques Strauss is a pretty good Leopard hunter and Kowas is offering hunts in the Caprivi. I believe that if I chose the right area in Tanz with a 21 day license in hand you never know what you might pick up for a trophy fee. I know that on a Leopard hunt you should be prepared to focus on Leopard, but if you are lucky enough to connect early, or have the time along the way, it would be nice to have the option to take a Buff or two and the local plains game oddities.

I enjoyed hunting with Alister Norton in Zambia. My dad shot a great buff and I took a leopard along with some plains game. Amazing accommodations and food. Alister works his tail off for you.

I hunted Tanzania with Wayne this year. We did hunt Leopard but passively, if that makes sense. As someone said earlier, a cat hunt becomes...well, a cat hunt and really nothing else. I focused on EA Eland, EA Roan and EA Sitatunga.

A finer gentleman just doesn't exist.

I’ve read Wayne’s book and would love to meet him. Do you know if he attends the shows?
As for the main question presented I’d say Tanzania because the safari areas are larger than anywhere else. The game variety there is incredible and I’d book 21 days to get the cat then on to buff etc.

Ha! I was just going to reply with this. I will be attending, just for the fun of it. I'm likely finished Leopard hunting but the class just sounds like fun. Not unlike one of these "Safari Shooting Schools"
I'm planning to attend the first or one of the first classes.

And yes, Wayne will be at both DSC and SCI.
