Namibia in 2019 Buffalo, Elephant

I just paid the deposit on a hunt in the Zambezi region of Namibia that will happen in September next year. Shona Hunting Adventures, with PH Johann Veldsman. Hunting buffalo and elephant for the first time, on communal conservancy lands. So for the next year and a half I'm going to be pestering members on this site with all sorts of questions as I wait impatiently and prepare for this adventure. It's a great pleasure to have such a trip transform from a "someday" dream into a planned reality. I'm as excited as a 10 year old child waiting for Christmas!

Nice, what rifle are you planning on taking?

I'm taking one of my .375's - either a new Sako M85 Kodiak or an older Sako AIV Safari. I didn't originally set out to hunt elephant, since Buffalo was my main goal, but then the outfitter made an elephant offer I couldn't refuse and now I'm second guessing my "little" cartridge choice for elephant. I am somewhat reassured since I've been hunting at home with various .375 rifles for a few years now and am very accustomed to the cartridge and shoot it well. I'm reasonably sure I'd rather use a rifle I can shoot comfortably than a bigger one that I'll only use for a special purpose. But more experienced dangerous game hunters may just convince me otherwise if they chime in here...

375 H&H-300-340 gr Monolithic meplat solid and shot placement is all you need for elephant as a client especially if you shoot it well.

Okay, I just learned something about communal conservancies in another thread. And this link seems to be showing that there are 83 of them in Namibia.

Congratulations. I took mu buffalo with my 375 Ruger shooting 300 grain Swift A frames backed by Northfork solids. Damn good buff medicine. May be a tad light for elephant but it can de done with a well placed bullet. Is it trophy elephant your hunting?

Not an expert by any means, but the 375 H&H has been killing animals in Africa for over 100 years. I would recommend Norma African PH, they are 350 grain Woodleigh bullets (Weldcore & FMJ), and some Norma Solid too (but they are 300 Grain).
