I spent a year searching the web for the best piece of AAA French walnut on a Classic Select, in any caliber...I think I found it on this 308. The photos don't really do it justice.

Selling to help fund my first Africa hunt.

Haven't checked my email yet, if you've not sent it, don't worry about it. I get the idea, it's a beautiful rifle. I know you haven't shot it very much, but what can you say about range performance? For me form always follows function in rifles.

This is the only rifle I have ever had shoot Barnes X bullets well with the very first load attempt.

Maybe I am getting better at guessing seating depth needs with the Barnes, but my first range trip with the rifle I loaded 130gr TTSX in new Lapua cases with 48 grains of Varget and a CCI 200. COAL of 2.795 and it shot 3 into 3/4".

I have shot only the Barnes load above, the Barnes with 40.5 gr Re7, and Hornady 150gr BTSP with 46 gr of Varget (COAL 2.80). All of these loads shot 3 shots into 3/4" to 1 1/4" with no development. I am certain with a little playing with seating depth and powder charge the rifle will stay under 1" consistently.

Now, this is not benchrest accuracy, but the greatest challenge to small groups with this rifle is the light weight. Nothing like 9 or 10 lbs pulling a rifle into the rest...this bugger weighs about 7 pounds with the scope and mounts.

After reviewing my loading data, I believe the load count on this rifle should be right at 70. I never did any fine-tuning of the loads above, as their accuracy was quite adequate for my limited purposes. I have owned the rifle 4 years and it has only been out of the house a half-dozen times before the picture session tonight!

As I am typing, I remember one load the rifle did not like. I had some RWS factory ammo that I picked up on close-out from Midway, I think. It is their 184gr Bonded bullet. I shot two 3 shot groups with that ammo and the groups were in the 2" range. So the round count is probably 76!

Sorry I don't have more data...just didn't shoot it enough.

Oh, cases fired in my M1A and my friend's Ruger 77 won't chamber in the Kimber! They claim a minimum headspace and I believe it.

Here are the three bullets I have run through the rifle...150gr Hornady BTSP, the RWS, and the Barnes.

I attributed the substandard accuracy of the RWS to the fact that it is factory ammo and not my handloads.

Standard twist rate for the .308 is one in 12.

If you calculate the ideal rate for a 220gr Nosler Partition out of the .308 you come up with 11.4 inches. For the 184gr RWS it is 13.2 inches.

A 12 inch twist in the .308 is idealized for the typical 180gr boattail, but still acceptable for the 220gr Partition.

Twist = 3.5 x square root of MV x diameter in inches squared / bullet length in inches.

The mediocre accuracy of this load could be from a number of issues, but not from the twist rate.

I used 2,200 fps for the 220gr and 2525 for the 184gr. http://tmtpages.com/twistrate.htm

220gr nosler is 1.363" and the RWS is 1.263"

You definitely got the best looking piece of wood that I have seen on a Kimber Select. I am a sucker for exceptional wood too and I can relate to valuing items in trophy fees. My friend and I laugh about going to the bank to deposit an "Impala" or "Warthog" into the savings account. Haha

Good luck with the sale. I would like to take it off of your hands but cant swing a $1600 rifle right now. I am sure it won't last long.
