Your favorite hunting rifle of all time

a primer ignited a cartridge in the magazine!
properly seated primer should have its top lower than the rear face or the case.
proper magazine should have no protruberence on the rear face.
which one of these things was incorrect in this situation?
or was it both?
faulty firearm &/or faulty ammunition = a problem possibly fatal.
a 458 in a 375 length mag is not the issue here.

Bruce , to be fair , there HAVE been multiple reports about the .458 Winchester Magnum BRNO ZKK 602s causing problems. The .375 HH Magnum BRNO ZKK-602 rifles are flawless gems though. Here is a report on the matter by a PH.

With many thousands of members here there is bound to be many different " favorite" rifles and calibers for many different reasons.

My favorite started it's life as a battle rifle and after a $20 Brownell pre-threaded and chambered 21 inch skinny barrel (super sale, had to buy 2 dozen), and a $ 10 Richardson "blem" . The mounts and rings came out of the used mount and ring box......as did the scope that came off a trade.

All in told I have less than a C- note out of pocket in that weapon and in it's chambering of 458 it has stopped everything that it has ever hit.

No my good friend Squire Delgato......

It is a 98 battlefield Mauser that was shot so many times that the batrel was about shot out , the receiver was x-rayed before I started the build.

The barrel came from Brownells and cost around $20 threaded, short chambered, 21 inches and skinny as hell. ( had to buy 2 dozen to get the price). The stock came from Richardson and was an oversized thumbhole and a blem for $10 bucks. Wellhammer palm swell and a bevertail ventilated forend. The forend is a ventalaten bevertail, the but is skeletonized, the grip has a welhamer palm swell and all is carbon fiber and epoxy with varing shades of gray and black poly.

With over 40k members I am sure that just about every kind and make of rifle is represented as someone's favorite of all time. I know of no manufacturer who designs builds and sells any hunting rifle that they know is unsafe or simply unreliable.

With the amount that many firarms are used these days they should often be checked over and serviced by qualified gunsmiths.

I am a fan of the BRNO ZKK-602 action myself

I currently only have one hunting rifle, or at least only 1 I've actually hunted with, so it's an easy choice for me.

It's a Tikka M695 deluxe in .270win and wearing a fixed S&B 8x56. Silky smooth action, accurate and unfussy on ammo, lovely wood and roughly the same age as I am, which is cool.

It now has a 22" Bergara barrel as the original factory item was getting a bit tired after 20 odd years of hard use, and if anything this has made it even better. It's currently pretty much stock, but it'll get an aftermarket bottom metal, titanium bolt shroud and a pillar bedding job in due course. It holds less than an inch comfortably with my homeloads, and less than 1.5" with every one of the Remington, Hornady, Sako or Federal 130gr offerings I've tried.

My only complaint; the single stack magazine which doesn't allow top feeding.

This is the rifle I took my first deer with, won my first shooting comp with and first got into hand loading to feed. I've put over 2000 rounds down it in the 3 years I've owned it. I'll never sell it.

You know what they say: "Beware the man with only one rifle, he's probably poor enough that he can't afford to miss!"

It really is difficult to pick one, but if forced I'd have to say my Brno 22f full stock carbine in 7x57mm. A minty classic, It has had two upgrades, master gunmaker Ralf Martini replaced the problematic double set triggers with a good crisp Recknagel single adjustable trigger and also replaced bolt shroud and safety with a Dakota side swing m70 Winchester style 3 position one that I prefer. The old parts were retained in case I ever want to restore it to original configuration. I have a Leupold 2.5x scope in original Brno skeleton QD mounts for close work and another Leupold 6x compact for open country hunts. They return to zero when slid back onto the double square bridge reciever grooves. It shoots accurately, handles and fits me like a good shogun and is deadly on running game in the bush. I have taken game from coyotes to moose with it. It was built in 1949 and is nowhere near worn out. Never selling it.

This question is a limiting one. Clearly we're all limited here. I can't answer this one easily.
A wooden stocked blued 700 BDL in .30-06 with a 4x scope and a good trigger. Sights zeroed for heavy bullets and the scope zeroed for a 150 grain boat tail.

If I could have only one, it would be a .375H&H bolt gun with a five round magazine and a good set of sights with a variable 2-7x33 scope with an illuminated reticle.

My favorite of all time, I cannot say. I may still be looking for it. But for today it was this one, which is a favorite. 416 Ruger, 350 TSX handloads, 100 meters. Current scope is a Schmidt & Bender Stratos 1.5-8x42. The rifle has had a few different scopes, but this one has been on for a couple of years.
