I have this crazy idea of transforming my basement rec room into an Africana themed Office / Man cave and am looking for some cool ideas.

Aside from the obvious trophies which will hopefully one day adorn the walls, I'm also looking into ideas for furniture, artwork, carvings, rugs, gun displays etc.

Has anyone hear done something similar? I'd be curious to see pictures or hear what pieces you've added to the room. I'm looking for that pre-1950 colonial look.

The wife is actually on board so this project is a go!

Yes. shortly I will be doing the same thing. I will be doing hanging lighting that are woven baskets. Learn a very important thing @Kevin Peacocke taught me: 1. Go directly to Melvin and Moon website in ZA to order hand made Africa furniture…don’t dare buy it from US at paces such as Africa Traditions since their mark up is huge…no disrespect to them but even with shipping from ZA you will save a bundle! As for crafts like the attached, I always ask to go to local craft places on all my Africa hunts making sure before I go to leave luggage space to bring them back…pennie’s on the dollar and all hand carved

I agree, rsa has a preferred tariff of 4% over $800 usd why pay the extra taxes and shipping costs

Check Wayfair also to see safari themed products

Contact Anet Kruger and commission her to do some original artwork for you.. Several members here have her paintings in their trophy rooms or in other places in their house... you can get signed numbered prints as cheap as about $25 each.. or original oil on canvas for up to a couple of grand (for a really large piece.. I think she typically only charges a few hundred for smaller pieces.. no matter the size, her pricing is WAY below market for other similar art from artists with similar credentials, experience, awards, etc)...

threads featuring different work she has done are below (should be contact information in one or more of them.. if not, Im happy to provide by PM)...

I have same urge, but suffering from the lack of space. Plan is to make room and separate lodge on property.

Suggestion:
Chesterfield sofas and couch.
Dark wood table and chairs
Here and there a piece of antique furniture.
Cigar bench.
Library shelf.
Cigar cabinet
Big screen TV
Gun rack behind the glass
Framed African Colonial map, cca post 1885 (after Berlin conference)
Bar. (must include Macallan whisky, at least for opening day) ;)
African craft souvenirs, shields, spears, bow, arrow, masks.
Regarding the trophies, my suggestion is to have a 50-50 split between scull mounts and shoulder mounts, or pedestal.
Scull mounts to be on same type of plaque.

Good call on the library/book shelf. I need somewhere to store my ever increasing collection of Africa/Safari books.

I'm also considering putting together a dangerous game cartridge collection behind glass, everything from 375 up to 700NE. A store near me sells single cartridges.

Some of my stuff.

Other end. Campaign chairs. Wood and black iron barstools and coffee table.

I’m partial to skins. Old look record player

Awesome pictures! That's the exact look I'm going for. Great costume haha.

Not an office, but definitely a place where I spend a bit of time.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
