Professional Hunter shot by client: update on Stu Taylor

Great job on the recovery to this point and hopefully great improvements still to come.
Was this during a buffalo charge? Curious if it's the hunt I saw where the PH was shot during a buff charge.

May Mr. taylor's feet always be swift, his aim always be true and his beers always be paid for by other blokes.

I do not know Stu, but exchanged a couple of emails with him and contributed to his medical fund through a link his company had created after the accident (I do not know if it is still up and running or needed). I also pray the hunting entertainment personality who shot him has done his part. Recovery from these sorts of wounds is unbelievably difficult. I have spent a lot of time visiting soldiers at military hospitals over the last decade, and it is both a heartbreaking and inspiring experience. Often a full physical recovery is not possible, and getting through that mental piece of it is a huge challenge. I am so thrilled to see it is one which Stu has clearly surmounted. Every time one of these professionals heads onto a track with a sweaty palmed client behind him with a loaded weapon, he has more than earned salary and tip. Please let Stu know that the prayers of a lot of people he does not know are with him.

Excellent. Continued success in your recovery. I watched the episode on TV when Stu got shot on the outdoor channel. A hunter/ TV host with that much experience hunting should really rethink things. I sure he felt badly I for one don't know if I could have returned to the field so quickly.

No! He hasn't the spineless...... He has not acknowledged any form of responsibility... we are pursuing legal action against his insurers now...but we need help from a US lawyer and haven't any idea where to start...without us getting ripped off even further!
Anyone with ideas?
Stu is one of those characters that would prefer a quiet life and not rock the boat.
But I personally feel that we should pursue this with the insurance company... anyone?

I do not know the full story completely , but I do feel that the hunter who fired the shot should be assisting Stu with some sort of insurance claim and settlement.

jerome or wayne will have removed it and their comments. there have been a few on here and ians memoriam thread as well, but also removed. they cant remove the people and comments till they are made unfortunately..............

Personal injury lawyers in the USA typically work on a contingent fee basis, meaning they get paid only if they are successful. The standard is a third of the recovered amount. I have referred cases to a few in different states. If you would like to PM me the identity and location of this fellow I can see if I can get some recommendations. Jurisdiction for the claim may be an issue but I can give you more info if you want.

I hope Stu get's a boat load of money for all he has been through. As far as the TV personality goes he should loose any further assignments as far as I m concerned. I ve seen the episode several times, he seemed concerned and remorseful on "TV"... All for the cameras I guess. If it were me I don't know if I could pick up and hunt for a long time.

I am so very sorry to hear that. I would have hoped he was doing everything in his power (to include a mortgage on his house) to at least try to meaningfully help with Stu's medical expenses. Pheroze is exactly correct and I would urge you to PM him. As he notes, personal injury lawyers take these cases on a contingency basis - deciding which to take based upon likelihood of reaching a settlement (they rarely actually go to trial). 2/3's of anything will be a lot better than 100% of nothing. I suspect he (if not his insurers) will be eager to settle because his success rides so much on the popularity of his television product. Again, legal representation can orchestrate potential public understanding of his post accident behavior as part of Stu's case. Finally, the lawyer can quickly assess what assets might be in play. These outdoor show guys make very little real profit from these programs. They essentially pay expenses for several weeks in Africa or wherever each year. The insurer is likely your surest target (again, your legal representation will sort out how he is covered - whether a personal liability policy or something through the Magnum Hunt Club or whatever it is), but they will do nothing until compelled to do so.

Ole Bally, AH has not been hacked, as spike.t mentioned to you some have join the site to post nasty comments resulting in getting themselves banned as soon as we can, this cleans out any posts they may have made as well as get them off the system for you to see.

The insurance company will probably do nothing unless a suit is filed against the shooter and his company.

The insurance company will then try to mitigate damages. In all likely hood a settlement will be reached/offered

How the insurance policy reads will determine how the insurance companies responds. ((ie: does it cover him out of the country? Does it cover him in acts of negligence on his part? (Most policies don't cover this. Did his negligence cause the accident? The insurance company may determine that they have no liability.))

A personal injury lawyer will want to determine assets of the shooter, his company and probably review the terms of the insurance policy to see if it is worth perusing. The later probably can't be done until a suit is filed. Possibly none of the above can be done until interrogatories or depositions which would be post suit.

You say you want to pursue this with the insurance company. Has Stu or his local attorney been in contact with them? Have they let you read the policy? What are the terms? Are they liable? Have they been open to negotiation or stonewalled? (Don't answer on a public forum) Surely Tim or Magnum would get that information to you as I would guess they want this settled and over with. If they don't provide this information a suit would have to be filed to obtain it. IMHO.

I am not an attorney. Just trying to give you an idea of how things would possibly happen within the US legal system.
