No way, he’s yours now dude!

most likely you would be considered a service disabled vet...

these days almost everyone coming out of the military has some measure of disability.. any rating at all between 1-100%, as long as the disability is connected to service and the rating comes from the VA counts as a "disability"...

at the state level certain "benefits" are extended dependent on the level of disability.. for example in Texas if you have a disability rating of 50% or greater the state will give you a free hunting license (whether you are a resident or non resident)... so, assuming someone has a VA 25% rating, they would be a "service disabled veteran", but not qualify for certain benefits that require a higher rating... it also takes a 50% rating to get "disabled veteran" car tags (at no cost), etc..etc.. but it only takes a 10% rating to get veterans preference points when applying for a state job.. etc..

folks from my generation rarely claimed a disability when they got out unless they were legitimately injured to the extent that it would effect their ability to work in a civilian capacity.. even if they went through the VA process and got a rating, it was generally ignored and the service member just went about life and never really thought about it much again... which is one of the reasons OH's claim of being a service disabled veteran has been questioned several times... back in the day unless you got seriously injured you simply didnt seek a rating.. and if you did, you certainly didnt tout it to others.. it simply wasnt part of the culture...

the current generation is very different.. they are very much encouraged to go through the process, get a rating (again, almost everyone qualifies for something no matter what your job was.... tinnitus alone is a 10% rating I think..)... Its honestly not that hard to rack up a 50% or greater rating if you even just served 4 years in a combat arms role... most infantrymen are going to have a jacked up back with some compressed discs, busted up ankles and knees, tinnitus, etc..etc.. this is especially true after a guy does multiple deployment to war zones during a 20+ year war period... it is very much part of the culture of the current military... where it was somewhat frowned upon for guys to go get a disability rating unless they were pretty severely jacked up in my day, in todays army youre considered a bit of a dumbass if you dont seek a rating upon leaving the military since almost everyone qualifies to one degree or another..
Thanks for the reply. Guess I am.a bit of a dumb ass as it took me over 34 years to.even go see the VA. I went because I was talked into by family friends who had served. I did not even care if I got a rating and still dont. Others need it more than I do is my feeling.

I didn't serve but a lot of my guys did, or they are still serving in the reserves. I 100% encourage them to get the whatever disability benefit they can and connect them with people who know the process.
its in their interest to get to the VA and get their rating sooner rather than later.. thats good of you to encourage it..

if someone has been out a while the VA (rightfully) will start to question whether or not the injury is service related... how do they know if you had tinnitus when you left? or maybe working around machinery and frequent trips to the gun range as a civilian is what gave you tinnitus? how do they know if those bad knees are a result of carrying an 80lb rucksack over miles upon miles of hard top road for years... or if you maybe screwed your knees up playing weekend pick up games of basketball, etc..etc..

the longer youre out, the harder it is to prove the service connection, and the more readily the VA will fight to keep you off the disability roster..

Im guessing based on 34 years and your attitude that youre from my generation... that was a very common sentiment among guys from our time of service... yeah, my ears ring, and by knees are dicked up.. but.. I knew what I was getting into.. and those other guys need it more than I do... I'll be fine..

the guys that have been serving post 9/11 have a very different sentiment for the most part.. its more in line with I spent years of my life wrecking my body voluntarily in defense of a nation and spent years and multiple tours in combat zones doing everything from getting blown up to burning shitters... my body aches... and the VA taking care of me was part of the deal that the government made when I volunteered... I held up my end of the bargain.. now I expect the government to hold up their end..

Exactly. I was in a command track my whole career. That meant one did everything in one's power to not have any sort of chronic issue in one's medical file. Basal cell carcinoma? Go to a civilian dermatologist. Back and hip issues? See the local urgent care office. When I retired in 2003, my retirement physical, at a VA hospital no less, was brief and typical of the era. I was granted a few percent for tinnitus, shrugged, and went on my way. That amounted to about $240 tax free that was deducted from my regular retirement pay for more than a decade.

Fortunately, a protégé who retired three years ago urged me to file for an evaluation review. Middle East service and falling out of perfectly good airplanes were now perceived as presumptive issues. That made a huge difference, and I fortunately no longer have to pay state property tax. However, percentages of disability are nothing like the truly disabled veterans with whom all of us who served know. Men and women without limbs, or sight, or other life changing circumstances are the truly "disabled" veterans who deserve our respect.

.
But it is the way someone thinks about it who never served a day in combat while an E4 MP on his single enlistment in Korea. It is frankly a self-indulgent pathos, and this is a poor audience among whom to flaunt that nonsense.
I served on subs and to my knowledge never was in a combat zone. Did not have to be to do what needed being done. I was in special projects and Tridents. All together I have 3.5 years under water time. How does that compare?

I know a guy from some year's ago that served in Iraq during desert storm. He drove trucks and wasn't a combatant.
This dude was perfectly fine mentally, but he jumped on milking the PTSD bandwagon so he could get a monthly disability payment, and a pro rated backpayout of approx $30k

Another New World Screw Worm post.

My hunting property is now in the surveillance zone. TPWD called me today to ask if they could put traps and release flies on my property. Of course the answer was yes.

Allegedly, below is a fawn in Kerr County that was infected. This was from Lone Star Outdoor News.
Well, that's nasty.

Shame on you for voting in a nation you seem to belittle and disrespect on a daily basis
And spew a false narrative about. Please enlighten us where you send your mail in ballots to? Where are you registered to vote, Montana has a minimum number of days you must reside there to vote, obviously I have a problem with all the voter fraud!
I get a major case of the red ass , when someone uses a mail ballot as a weapon to defraud our elections.
IMHO if you don’t have a 6 month primary residence in the USA or a state , you have forfeited your right to vote until you complete your residency requirement.
Only time I voted mail in was when I submitted one when I was in Spain and Tunisia during assignments for the DOC ( department of commerce) and we had to do it at the embassy.
Sorry everyone but OH for this rant, but “ I’m mad as Hell , and am not going to take it anymore “
I disagree with OH nearly 100% of the time. But I have never seen him say he hates America. Only the leadership America has elected. We should never confuse the two. Otherwise Biden haters or Democrat leadership haters are also America haters.

As for mail in ballots I generally agree Election Day should be a day. But I do think people who are bed ridden or have to be out of town for work or even personal travel on Election Day should still have an avenue for voting. So my view is only slightly more expansive than yours.

I do find it very odd that someone who chooses to live in Canada would still feel the need to vote in American elections.

I simply cannot believe a guy who thinks drinking disinfectant is okay or who publicly portrays himself as Jesus Christ would have the brains to get a genuine university degree in anything, let alone economics. Trump's extraordinary lack of intelligence is on display every day. And it's his show. Entirely.
The entire "Trump told people to drink Bleach" has been DEBUNKED extensively, even by the politically left News sources that initially ran the story. Yet you continue to spew it here.

Politifact
Snopes
TIME
NBC News
NewsWeek

All of these sources have stories online that explain exactly what happened. A quick Google search will show dozens more that debunk this popular Democrat lie that you insist on repeating. It was Presidential Candidate JOE BIDEN that claimed that Donald Trump told people to drink bleach.

Joe Biden
stated on July 9, 2020 in a speech:
On COVID-19, Donald Trump said that “maybe if you drank bleach you may be okay.”

You've been caught in how many lies in just one day on this forum? FIVE?

Keep going and people might come to the conclusion you're a Democrat.

I respect your service. Assuming it is true, I respect his. What I don't respect is his characterization of it. Should he or you or anyone else have disabilities attributable to their service, I think it is wonderful the federal and state governments offer a form of compensation. What I find reprehensible is bragging about being a "disabled veteran" and equating that to the injuries too many of our comrades incurred in combat. The compensation any of us receive is generous. But, none of our service compares to what the truly disabled have contributed. A few days at Walter Reed a decade ago would cure anyone of that sort of posturing.

I worked for several. My resumè and vitae are both quite lengthy.
I suspect you have a lot of characteristics in common with several people that I hired. They had extensive lists of prior employers to which our company was added after just a short time. The Texas comment is All Hat and No Cattle. The California version was Money Talks and Bullshit Walks.

The only credential for POTUS is getting a majority of electoral votes. A degree is not required. Heck, Truman did not have a college degree.

As you stated yes. I got credit and tested out for 2 years of college math and physics because I got my A levels in Pure Math and Physics. My A levels in English did help as much as an engineering major all one needed were 6 credits. I took a course on Milton and SciFi because I wanted to.
Yes, I also managed to skip English 101, a required course. Couldn't fit it in for my last semester before graduating. The head of the department took a look at papers I had written for other courses and simply signed me off. That course was, as I'm sure you know, typically terribly overcrowded. Pointless for me come back for another semester. I finished that BA early in three years and one semester (after army discharge in December 1971).

I watched it live. Okay, Trump suggested that injecting or introducing disinfectant or "very strong light" "inside the body" should be studied as a cure for COVID. Lysol immediately issued a warning to the public. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt assuming he confused "ingesting" with "injecting," the former proposition being slightly less ridiculous. We all know he has vocabulary issues.

I see in the news today Trump says he "loves inflation." Wow! And you guys actually believe he has a real degree in economics? The doctors at Walter Reed claim he was able to identify a camel from a bird when he was recently tested. Someone must have helped him. :D

Are you other guys also loving inflation? The seven dollar a pound hamburger is so pleasing, eh? :D

The point is that any of us could have paid the ultimate price when we signed up even if we werent in a combat zone. Every time I went on deployment I had a will and power of attorney filled out. It was required for each crew member. Never owned much when i was in the service so the will wasnt worth much. There were no guarantees only probabilities. I got my college degree. I got married in Vallejo, I grew up and my character was formed, I got a trade. I have no regrets and if I was18 again with no attachments i would do it again. Yes my service was real. Some of the best years of my life.

Resume lists previous supervisors, transcripts are certified copies, and the publications on vitae are easily verified. No secrets. I can certainly understand why no one wants to work for you very long.

Which calendar are you using?
Oops. I started university after being discharged in the middle of the winter 1974 (enlisted in 1971) which explains the accelerated completion 3.5 years later. I wanted to graduate in the spring. Required taking a huge credit load most semesters.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
