Actually, I approve of high junk food and soda prices. If it stops people from destroying their health, it is worth it. It will cost less in the long run.

The big problem is if people don't change their lifestyle those drugs will never be effective.

When my brother in law had his one knee replaced I would take him to his physical therapy. I started just watching the people walk through the doors for the office that his therapist was located in. I saw that most that were overweight and quite likely way out of shape were packing 64 oz jugs of their favorite beverage, where those who were slim and trim were packing water bottles or just 12-16 oz bottles and I highly doubt that they were sugar loaded drinks.

Mr. Bruzzi never talked war stories. He only talked about the importance of training and winning. He was my WWII mentor as a kid. Once a month I’d go into the cleaners to pick up Sunday clothes mom would drop off.

He sewed my lance corporal stripes on my A’s, C’s, D’s after I got back from Panama. I wanted to have him pin my blood stripe on, but he died. Wasn’t until after his funeral I found out he had two combat jumps , one on Makin island and one in Bougainville. A great and humble man.
Reminds me of when I lived in Beckworth, Ca. A tiny little community, rode my horse up one of the 3 streets they had, an OLD man was in the yard , he always flew the flag, so I pulled up and started a conversation with him. Turned out he said he was on IWO and lost a lot of friends there, he chocked up and said no more. I think they were a hard working generation who lived thru the great depression and didnt feel like anyone owed them anything except a little respect. Happy Veterans day.

I think you are in the right track. Even Medal of Honor winner Dakota Meyer discussed on video the darkness he spend years working through.
Skip to 3:45 minutes to hear him discuss his demons.

Dakota has found his way and is becoming a leader of many who need role models to guide them to the light. HE co-authored a book on life lessons, "The Way Forward"

The BLUF by Dakota Meyer dakotameyerthebluf@substack.com
I receive his motivational emails weekly.

Dakota Meyer recently relenlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve and has given motivationaly speaches to Marines.

The WWII guys who mentored me years ago, never ever discussed combat. Never.
Looking back I figure it was because they wanted to keep their demons locked up.
I can Identify, I grew up in a home with a Marine vet WW11 in the 20yrs I spent there Id say he mentioned his service about a dozen times. or so, and always one liners never big stories.
1 Many times I thought this is where I die.
2 WE were going in on a beach landing, standing beside the captain he said " Payton try not to get yourself killed today,' Ill try not to sir" " you do the same" we hit the beach and the captain jumped over the side and a jap mortar came down right on him ,we never found him. Happy VETERANS DAY.

I saw some Twinkie’s the other day in a gas station. I can’t remember how long it’s been since I’ve had one!

2 weeks here. There was a half price box at the store 2 weeks ago. Once home, they did not last long.

Catching up on the morning news shows after church... Trump on forcing Republicans to axe the filibuster:

“He will make their lives a living hell,” one Trump adviser told Axios while describing the president’s strategy for getting GOP lawmakers on board. “He will call them at three o’clock in the morning. He will blow them up in their districts. He will call them un-American. He will call them old creatures of a dying institution. Believe you me, he’s going to make their lives just hell.”

So very often he makes the Kindergarteners I once taught look mature by comparison.

This relates to the conversation a few pages back. I forgot to take a picture of burger prices.

My community is off the road system but is a regional hub; we have daily cargo flights from 4 air cargo companies. Remote? Yes, by most standards. Distantly connected? Not completely.

Get yer butt to Cubby’s!

All seriousness, wow… village prices suck. It’s bad enough when it’s normal, but, jeez..!

I don't think of ours as village prices. Why? You should see village prices.

Vice Presidents don't resign. Only two have. Spiro Agnew because he was tax crook (no contest for tax fraud) and John C. Calhoun. Calhoun did do it because of political differences with Andrew Jackson - but that was in 1832.

Just my view, but were Vance to resign, that would cause chaos in the party, pretty much guaranteeing a democrat wave in 28.

With respect to some coherent leadership from Trump, that would indeed be a Godsend. On tariffs alone, even friendly press like Fox is bewildered. He also has a counter productive way of pronouncing what a situation should be (in his mind) such as Ukraine, China, Venezuela, Greenland, etc without the means to bring his desires to fruition. To the voters, that has a way of looking like failure. Finally, the whole national guard thing, however effective in restoring order in a few places or in helping round up illegals, represents really bad optics for many - particularly independents.

I’m past hoping for any sort of coherent trade policy from Trump. What he did to our ranchers with the Argentine beef deal is beyond the pale. He basically screwed a bunch of hard working folks who were 100% loyal to him. I fear that he is completely clueless on these issues.

Imagine if filibuster was gone during Biden administration.

Exactly, we would struggle to come up with a worse idea.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
