Reminds me of when I lived in Beckworth, Ca. A tiny little community, rode my horse up one of the 3 streets they had, an OLD man was in the yard , he always flew the flag, so I pulled up and started a conversation with him. Turned out he said he was on IWO and lost a lot of friends there, he chocked up and said no more. I think they were a hard working generation who lived thru the great depression and didnt feel like anyone owed them anything except a little respect. Happy Veterans day.
Elmer Calm of College Station was a flame thrower man of Iwo Jima. Said that the tunnels made a circle so that if you blasted too long the fire would make the circle and come back out on you. Also said that Veterans Day was difficult because, "Why would you want to remember something you spent your whole life trying to forget..."

Let us not forget the diabetes inducing combo for the ages…

I found two pristine RC bottles in the attic of the church--probably there from original construction workers because they had an ice pick hole in the cap so if they tipped over it wouldn't all drain out. Ignorantly I stuck them on a shelf in my garage where the light stays on 24/7 and it faded out the pristine green color from the bottles....dang.

Actually, I approve of high junk food and soda prices. If it stops people from destroying their health, it is worth it. It will cost less in the long run.
T. Boone Pickens build a hospital over in the medical district that decided that very thing. If you want vending machine junk, you'll pay out the nose. If you want a healthy meal in the cafeteria, it WAS around $5 a few years ago. Except for paying for parking, it might have been one of the best places in Dallas to get a cheap good meal. And a good idea in line with health priorities.

Apparently 8 dems in the senate are crossing over and will vote to end the government shutdown. The resolution will need to go back to the House for a vote.

The over/under for how quickly Trump rubs Shumer’s nose in it has initially opened at 6 hours. Probably because he’s asleep.

^^^^ Schumer is toast.

He will be defeated by AOC or worse. Democrats are going through their version of the MAGA movement.

But their movement should be called Make America Venezuela “MAV”

Every socialist and communist movement started this same way. A group is in the political wilderness or doldrums ruled by what they deem as an oppressive leader (Tsar or King) that they will defeat and install a utopia of like minded enlightened sophisticates.
A charismatic young gifted speaker comes along. And excites the base. It feels good and seems to actually work for a few years.

Their ideology is based on Marxist philosophy, which aimed for a classless, stateless society, free from the exploitation of the Tsarist and capitalist systems. Bolshevik commitment to free education and healthcare, and the abolition of social estates and titles. (No Billionaires)

Lenin’s Land and Bread slogan has morphed into. “ No Kings” and similar slogans that parallel exactly the path that Lenin took during the October revolution.

The irony is the first victim of this movement isn’t the Republican Party. It’s actually the Democrats that will be eradicated and replaced by the new revolution.

Then we of course all suffer. But the Democrat party is the first to go.

Let's hope Trump got up for a midnight snack, and started the rubbing early.
Never let the opportunity to rub a Democrats nose in something stenchy go to waste.

Let’s hope Trump realizes that no one won anything. Especially the taxpayers.

Now if they actually lower insurance costs. By forcing insurance companies back to the table. Then that could be a win.

A real solvable issue is fraud and Tort reform.

Obama delegated the writing of the ACA to insurance company lobbyists. He got his public win , which is all he cares about. And assumed, well these guys know the industry. Who else knows what needs to be fixed better than the insurance companies.

Now who steps up and tells us they know how to fix it AGAIN ! The same greasy politicians that broke it in the first place.

This relates to the conversation a few pages back. I forgot to take a picture of burger prices.

My community is off the road system but is a regional hub; we have daily cargo flights from 4 air cargo companies. Remote? Yes, by most standards. Distantly connected? Not completely.

One of my favorite duck hunting friends from back in the 80’s was a WW2 marine, he talked some about his experiences outside of combat. One morning he did say that he was on Iwo for 5 days before the”Jap” got him.
He always had my total and undying respect.
By the way to all marines out there Happy Birthday!

Hakeem Jeffries already said they are voting against it. Will be interesting if Johnson can push it through.

I hope the press eviscerates him when he votes against it...

the bill the senate has passed has more in it that the D's have asked for than the bill that congress passed to the senate..

Jeffries is just another bloviated ass clown that values getting air time on MSNBC more than he values the American people..

Even CNN called him out during an interview yesterday... a few weeks ago he was grandstanding on the floor of the house declaring that a 1 year extension to Obamacare was a non starter and unfair to the American people when it was tabled as an option for discussion by a republican.. and then yesterday morning when Schumer offered to concede if R's would give a 1 year extension to Obamacare (literally EXACTLY what Jeffries was bitching about prior) he got on the floor to praise Schumer and declare that D's were trying to negotiate while R's were forcing the American people to suffer...

He thinks the American people are stupid.. and sadly, he is right.. many are... which is how jackasses like him continue to hold office..

I am hopeful this is the beginning of the end for him.. he genuinely nauseates me.. not because we have opposing ideas on fiscal and social policy... but because he is an openly and outwardly lying shit bag that will say and do anything to get on TV.. people like him dont deserve the air they breathe... freaking oxygen thief..

What I find amusing and frustrating about this whole Obama care subsidy government closure is nobody is asking the important question of why does the program that was supposed to fix healthcare need propped up by subsidies to work. It’s the same issue as the college loan scam. If the government keeps underwriting it and subsidizing it, it’s never going to get fixed.

This is like a salesman coming to you and saying listen. if you subscribe to my program, I’m going to help you and save you a lot of money. If you give me this much money now I can fix this for you.

So you buy into his program. Then years later comes back and says I need $2000 extra per month to keep my program floating to save you money.

Only politicians can view things through that lens and make that incongruity makes sense.

Ill take it a step further..

not only does ACA/Obamacare require government subsidy.. its a completely failed program..

the cost of healthcare insurance has increased at a faster pace than inflation by a WIDE margin..

healthcare coverage is significantly lower at the increased cost (more than 50% of Americans now take the lowest coverage package offered, because that low coverage package is still substantially more expensive than what they are used to paying for.. as opposed to pre-ACA only about 31% of Americans took the lowest coverage package..

and.. only about 4% more Americans today have coverage that didnt have coverage prior..

So.... we're paying more.. the US Govt is taxing us more so that it can subsidize what we are paying more for.. we're getting less in return.. and no significant number of additional people have healthcare coverage...

and yet we cant seem to get our legislators to get rid of the shit show that they put on the books for us...

hmmmm.....

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
