Greetings All,

I've been registered here for a while and poked around without introducing myself.

I hail from a small town near St. Louis in Southwest Illinois (unfortunately). Avid deer, turkey, and small game hunter growing up which has now branched into some bear hunts in Maine and Manitoba, as well as a few traveling deer hunts. I'm headed across the pond to South Africa for the first time next year, and I am incredibly excited. My wife and I are hunting for 10 days in the Eastern Cape.

I've got many things on the hunting bucket list, ranging from many more African adventures, to Alaska, and I'd really like to take a trip up Saskatchewan way for one of those massy chocolate horned whitetails.

Looking forward to learning from all of the folks on here who are far more well traveled than me!

Attached is a photo of a nice whitetail I took at my home property back in 2016. Take care,

Dan P.

Welcome to the site! I live in Sunset Hills which is near STL on the Missouri side of the river. Good luck on the trip next year.

Thank you @Doug3006! I'm over in Waterloo. I go through Sunset Hills all the time for work. We hit Twisted Tree for steaks a few times a year!

Welcome! And what a banger, did he break 170"? Don't laugh, not too familiar with whitetails...

Welcome! Great buck! Let us all know if you need any advice or help on Africa.

I wish! If I recall right, I scored him around 162". Very amateur scorer, I've always wanted to have it officially done. @Wathe208

Not too far off then, what a real beaut. Where in the East Cape are you going if I may? The coast? I just got back and am in love. Free range on the ocean, super cool...! Literally had a duiker run past me on the beach. There are some super knowledgeable folks on the site, don't be afraid to ask, most are true ladies and gents.

Welcome! My late in-laws lived in O'Fallon, Illinois. My FIL was a civilian meteorologist working for the Air Force at Scott AFB. He and my BIL had talked about a hunting trip to Africa but cancer caught up with him.

My BIL and I are going to try and make up for that next June.

Very cool! Alicedale is the nearest town I believe. Frontier Safaris.

Awesome! You're only about an hour from Port Alfred. If you get the time, it's a beautiful, safe little town with an awesome beach. Gotta get the fresh squid (3-ways) at Ocean Basket restaurant. Also the fresh biltong at the butchery there. It won't be your last trip to Africa---fair warning.

:S Welcome:

The usual suspects. Dall Sheep, brown bear, moose in North America. I would love to hunt the dangerous game in Africa, but on a smaller scale, I find Eland and red Hartebeest to be amazing creatures!

Welcome to AH!

G'day from Australia

Hello DPHunter4570,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

The buck in your photo is a real cracker.
I know little to nothing about tape measures and score cards however I repeat, that buck is a real cracker.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
