Overdue Introduction

Howdy! My first hunt was in east cape. The major thing’s about east cape is that it’s vary similar to Wyoming, there’s going to be a lot of rocks, hills everywhere, and you will have to take a lot longer shots then most of Africa(I had to take a shot from almost 400 yards) so I would say the best thing for someone to do for east cape is go hiking and shooting long distance

Hello DPHunter4570,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

The buck in your photo is a real cracker.
I know little to nothing about tape measures and score cards however I repeat, that buck is a real cracker.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.
Thank you!!

Greetings All,

I've been registered here for a while and poked around without introducing myself.

I hail from a small town near St. Louis in Southwest Illinois (unfortunately). Avid deer, turkey, and small game hunter growing up which has now branched into some bear hunts in Maine and Manitoba, as well as a few traveling deer hunts. I'm headed across the pond to South Africa for the first time next year, and I am incredibly excited. My wife and I are hunting for 10 days in the Eastern Cape.

I've got many things on the hunting bucket list, ranging from many more African adventures, to Alaska, and I'd really like to take a trip up Saskatchewan way for one of those massy chocolate horned whitetails.

Looking forward to learning from all of the folks on here who are far more well traveled than me!

Attached is a photo of a nice whitetail I took at my home property back in 2016. Take care,

Dan P.

Welcome to the posting side of things!

Hello Dan, welcome to AH. Great to hear you are coming to Africa. Does your wife hunt too?

Good day! Welcome from us too!!

@Kevin Peacocke She's a deer hunter, with more bucks on the wall than me! She killed a dandy of a 12 point buck last year. My hunting package next spring includes a few cull animals, impala being one, and I think she's going to take those. They will be trophies all the same!

Awesome! You're only about an hour from Port Alfred. If you get the time, it's a beautiful, safe little town with an awesome beach. Gotta get the fresh squid (3-ways) at Ocean Basket restaurant. Also the fresh biltong at the butchery there. It won't be your last trip to Africa---fair warning.
+1 on the ocean basket, great seafood right on the Kowi river, we had Egyptian geese walking around our table.

Welcome Dan! Nice buck;)

The East Cape is a beautiful place with a lot of varied terrain. It's a fantastic place to start :) If you can, try to move around some during your hunt to different areas. I know a lot guys are opposed to spending valuable hunting days moving from camp to camp... but if you are planning the typical first timer Plains Game hunt, 10 days is plenty of time. Unless you are pursuing the tiny 10 or something real specific.... The East Cape has wonderful game filled mountains, the airid Karoo is amazing with huge properties. The Cowie region closer to the Coast is thicker and more jungle like. The mountains and ranches are great and filled with cool critters.

Welcome to AH. That is a very nice buck. You will enjoy the Eastern Cape, while there also have your PH take you out on a couple night hunts.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
