Hi all, off to Kanana in Botswana next month for my first African adventure! Going to meet the wife in Joberg on the way and rest a few days before heading out to Maun. Any suggestions for two days of relaxation before heading out? We are staying at the Afton House.

Thanks
Robert

you must be a ninja to be able to sneak in close enough to kill them with your fist.

welcome to AH. hope you have an awesome trip.

OOPS! First Safari, it's past my bedtime here in Saudi and has been a really long work week.

Have a great time at Kanana.

What to do for two days while in Joburg? hmmm.

Afton has a selection on their website.
From Museums to Casinos to National Parks.
Likely the easiest for you.

You'll like the Afton It is very clean and the breakfast is cooked to order. The gentleman that picks you up and takes you back to the airport goes way overboard in helping you at the airport. I always make it well worth his while for the help he gives me. I've done some shopping at a mall they took me to and they know the good restaurants if you don't want their dinners.
Bring a journal to write in every day. 5 years from know you'll thank me for telling you this.
The first safari is something very special, take it all in not just the hunting.

Welcome to AH Sand Rat! I like the idea of the Ninja thing better. I met the Young Lady representing the Afton House at the DSC Convention you'll have a good time staying there. Good Luck on your hunt and bring us back a good report with lots of pics.

gday sand rat welcome and enjoy the site
you are going to really enjoy your african adventure and from the hunting reports youve made a good chioce with outfitters.
afton house is great starting/finishing place to unwind and they go to great lengths to see that you are looked after .if your working in saudi youll be used to gated communities with armed guards id guess .(it was a real eye opener for me and my son )
youll love the steak dinner out by the bbq mate
as you arrive there the driver will warn you about the fence .
my young bloke still says thats not an electric fence you havnt seen an electric fence until you go to africa .
enjoy

Welcome to AH Robert! Have a great hunt.

Welcome to AH, Robert, wish you a good holiday and a great hunt !

Looking forward to your report with tons of pics.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. From what I've read through Tom and Jeff's reports, Jason runs a great hunt. I'm leaving Saudi on the 13th and first hunt date is April 18. I'm hoping the weather in Ghanzi cools down a bit before I get there and the Kudu, Impala and Blues are in full rut! Lots of picks to follow when I get back home.

Hi Robert,

Welcome to AH and congratulations on your choice of outfitter for your first Safari. You are in for a heckuva hunting experience & will be in great hands at Kanana. I'll be back there for a second helping about a month behind ya & I look forward to your report.

Jeff

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
