That was interesting charge!

I do not want to be ignorant but I wll never have my client shoot of my shoulder when you have a angry cat like that. My attention will be on where the cat is and what it wants to do.... But hats off to JP and the client for doing a great job and supplying the client with the best possible adrenaline rush there is!

Best regards,

Jacques

Jacques, I would not call you ignorant, just clever...!!!

Did you notice the death grip the PH had on the barrel before the shot?
He made certain that the barrel was not waving around before that shot, thats for sure.
Quite an adrenaline rush, on several counts.

My days of hunting adrenaline rush's are long past. The excitement of the stalk and the rush of that first shot are plenty good for me. I have never been the target of a charging lion. I have been the point of interest to a few charging bulls. I have noticed that there are 2 major groups of people. Their are the ones who panic and run at the onset of trouble, the other are the ones who calmly address the problem at hand then hours later have the adrenaline rush. I am in that group . I have many times looked at a friend hrs. after an incident and said "how stupid was that." Anyway you can keep your charges. Tho I do love watching them on video.
As far as rifle .375 minimum . .470 up for back-up.
As for your PH . You are going to spend a lot of time with this person. I recommend if time permits communicate with them long before the hunt. Find someone you like and trust. He's not going to be just a drinking buddy. If things go bad he is your life line. This to me is the most important part of the hunt. (picking the PH)

i thought that hunt (in the video) seemed pretty well organized. although I was a little bit dubious about seeing so many guys with rifles in such close proximity when they are nervous.

but in that lion charge - the hunters seemed to have a pretty good idea of where the lion was positioned. and then he ran straight in. i can imagine other possible scenarios where the lion is moving through taller grass (harder to see), and he's running at you on a curved path ... so much harder to judge the target. if he's fast, I would think he could be right up on you before you really could have good awareness of him.

thanks for the video. very interesting. :-)

Thanks Jerome, hadn't seen that one.

All I know if a lion comes at me I want to be on my hind legs, with one thing on my mind ... swinging the rifle into the charge and slinging copper. Hopefully my PH will be too. Keep your damn hands off my rifle, in fact don't do anything to distract me except maybe to yell shoot, please.

Having hunted the most dangerous game in the world, in other parts of Africa and the Mid East. I am like others here dont grab the barrel of my rifle I need to shoot , move and communicate, In that order but that was with an M-16A2.

I grew up shooting an old old bolt action shotgun. Dove hunting, hog hunting, rabbit hunting and squirrel hunting with it. Been heaving a few rounds down range with the big rifle. I like the way it shoots.

Wife said "What do you want for Christmas?" I said shooting sticks.

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark

I really like that knife you're selling. It looks so similar to my original 1306 that has been around a long time. I can't spend that much but if you get to a point where you'd entertain offers let me know. Thx, James
