KUIU Pro Brush Pant

I did my 11th trip to Africa this summer. Took my two kids and wife, all of us had the Kuiu Brush Pants on the trip for the first time. Best thorn pant any of us have ever worn. Very comfortable and did a fantastic job.

I’ve got some Orvis trousers for bird hunting that I bought a long time ago. I don’t wear them that much anymore as I’ve instead used some Filson thornproof chaps that slip on over regular pants. A buddy has some super light chaps that are snake proof, too. Highly recommend adding this bit of kit to gear closet.
I second the filsonthorn proof chaps. I hunt a lot in heavey thorn apple brush and multiflora rose bushes. The filson chaps protect from all and are pretty lightweight. Also easy on and off.

@Badjer - Sorry my friend. Whenever the guy I work with is walking around in the True Werk pants, I’m transported back to the 1970’s wearing ribbed corduroy pants in middle school and the sound they make.

I was going to ask, corduroy?, 80's nylon tracksuit?, cellophane? but you answered for me.
Unsure why 85% Nylon and 15% Spandex sounds like corduroy but I'll take your word for it.

I can tell you this... Duluth Trading Firehose pants don't work against cholla and prickly pear. Not sure how they would hold up in Africa.

More like parachute pants from the 80’s, but you get the point.

I wore 2 denim pants from Costco in solid olive and brown. $10.99 I believe my wife pays for them. Just finished 25 days in the East Cape. No problems whatsoever with any brush ruining them!

Don’t waste your money!!!

I completely thrashed two pairs of Carhartt pants in Africa on a recent hunt by running through thorny brush. I came home to pulls and holes all over the front legs. Wife says I'm not allowed to wear them "out" anymore. Looking for something lightweight to take their place and short of making another trip to RSA to visit the Jonnson outlet in Pretoria, the KUIU PRO Brush Pant. Wondering if anyone has any experience with them or something similar.

I've also seen the Beretta Thorn Resistant EVO Pants on the internet if anyone has input on these.

I don’t have this pair of Kuiu pants but generally their stuff is hard to beat. For me, some of the Kuiu sizing and fit is inconsistent so you might want to allow extra time for an exchange when you order. If you are a wear it until it worn out person like me, I have had the very small side vent zippers fail on similar Sitka pants. Not sure if Kuiu would have the same issue.

That last couple of pairs I’ve bought were under armour tactical pants. They are made of rip stop material that won’t “pick”. It does feel a bit more harsh to the touch but doesn’t pickup hitchhiker seeds like the softer stuff does. My only complaint about these is Velcro tabs on the cargo pockets. I just cut off the Velcro and they’re good to go. Double zippered back pockets are nice. They also make a version without cargo pockets but I prefer more pockets. Obviously a bit cheaper vs Kuiu too. Found them on Amazon sale for $45 about a year ago.

I agree 100%, DuluthFlex Fire Hose pants are the best. I have never damaged them in anyway on my three safaris. I have hunted in Limpopo, the Northwest territory and the Eastern Cape without a single issue.

I've worn several pairs of Men's DuluthFlex Fire Hose Relaxed Fit Cargo Work Pants in SA, Zim and Mozambique. Comfortable, great pockets and handle the thorns well. Have also worn several pairs of KUIU Kutana & Tiburon when it was really hot. The Kuiu's got snagged a bit but never tore any holes. Never tried the brush pants but have wondered on the noise with them.

I haven't worn Kuiu, but I'd be willing to pay for four pairs Carhartt, knowing they will be trashed, than pay for a pair of KUIU and hope that they hold up.

Nothing will last long- the thorns take no prisoners. The Kuiu pants you mentioned have a durable extra layer on the front of the legs that are suppose to be a protective layer. I gave up long ago and now, just go with heavy duty rip stop fabric. still get gouged, still scream like a sissy, and still can't get more than two years outa them.

I’ve worn several different pairs of Kuiu pants in Africa including the Brush Pants, Switchback, Attack, Kutana and Tiburons. African thorns have chewed them all up. The Brush Pants are the most resistant but I find they’re a little too thick/heavy for my preferred time of the year and how I hunt. My favorite Kuiu pants for Africa are the now discontinued Switchback’s or the Tiburon’s in one of the solids. Both are a little thinner/lighter weight which I appreciate in Oct-Dec temps when you’re tracking. I have a couple pairs of switchbacks that are set aside just for Africa because of the thorns eating them up.

The other pant I really like are the Stone Glacier Divide Pants. I tried these out this year in Zambia and on my fishing trip to the Okavango and was impressed. They’re comfortable, lightweight and breathable. They withstood the brush pretty well (not as thorny as Zim), and also work great for a daily pant here in the states.

Next year’s trip to Moz will likely include a Tiburon, Switchback, and Divide pant. I think the Tiburon will do well in the swamps and dry the quickest of the 3.

Mine should be here Friday, I’m looking forward to getting my hands on them.

Current upland pants were pretty long in the tooth so I was in the market for a replacement. Was planning on going with Orvis until I saw the email releasing these. Now the painful wait until fall to chase pheasants…

I have two pairs of the Tiburon that I absolutely love for their lightweight and quick drying fabric, but I typically hunt in the winter months where morning temps are close to freezing. Hoping the Kuiu Pro Brush Pants offer a little more protection from both the cold and thorns.

In the south quail hunting I will often wear tiburon or kutana for the thinness, then wear Dans chaps over the top of them for thick brush.

Has anyone tried the pants from Tag Safari? I love their shirts and have been thinking of trying a pair of their long pants.

I owned parachute pants in every possible color in 1983 lol..

between those pants and the mullet, I sometimes wonder how I ever made it in this world :D

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
