John Wayne - Hatari

John Wayne films have been shown just about everywhere in the world - translated. In many places, the translations are dubbed. Not here, fortunately: we get subtitles. I've got to hear what John Wayne sounds like.

I heard that it can be "interesting" to hear John Wayne speak Estonian, in a much smaller voice.

I watched an early 1935 Wayne movie, Red Dawn where they actually Dubbed in Yakima Canuits voice

Thank you for posting. The Duke was one of the all time greats. There will never be another like him.
I was on a fishing trip on Georgian Bay in Canada when the news came thru of his death.

The Searchers is on today. Its is considered by many to be one of the best movies ever made and certainly one of the very best westerns. Its probably my favorite western overall with Shane and The Big Country also in the top 10.
I cannot watch the end of the Searchers and not tear up and choke up. Very moving film.

When we lived in Sequim, WA, the Duke would sail the Wild Goose into Port Angeles or Port Townsend and visit around the area.

Yep, they named the marina after him.

Well, having searched for years on tv every time a Wayne marathon was on and never seeing it, I finally realized I could actually do something about it. Searched youtube and found it, plugged computer into tv and was able to watch Hatari. Entertaining movie.

As some of you have mentioned in this thread about some of your favorites of his, I will add to that conversation. My favorites are The Searchers, True Grit, She wore a yellow ribbon, and Rio Bravo.

does anyone remember one he did where he was a single father coaching football at a catholic college? I can't seem to come up with the name of it.

Yes ... I am certain that it is , Skinnersblade . However , I will never watch that 1 film , because I know that John Wayne's character dies at the end of the film. And I cannot bear to watch that . Real life is depressing enough as it is . That is why I always prefer cinema with happier endings . Films are meant to entertain us and help us escape the darkness of reality for the 1 or 2 hours that we are watching it . That is why I could never bring myself to watch " Shootist " . @Kawshik Rahman and @Panther Shooter often tell me to watch it anyway , however.
Friend Ponton
You are missing one of the true classics in the Shootist my friend. You should do yourself a favour and watch it you won't be disappointed.
Keep safe and well my friend
Bob

Part of The Shootist was filmed in the Genoa Bar in Genoa, NV, the oldest waterhole in the state, dating from 1850 something.

Hatari, True Grit, The Searchers, The Shootist (Filmed in Carson City, NV, my home town. I actually saw him, waiting in line to mail a package at the post office. A striking figure on horseback, a striking figure in the post office line!). Heck, we grew up with him. A hero to us kids.

I think the Duke only died in five of all the movies he made we've mentioned The Shootist, Cowboys, Sand of Iwo Jima, anybody remember the others

The "Duke" died in 7 or 9 movies, 8 or 10 if you count The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

The Alamo

Midway, I think is the title, he plays a ship commander, gets wounded, dies as his badly damaged ship arrives safely back in port at the end of the movie.

Wreck of the Red Witch or title close to it.

I'm not sure, dont remember if he died in The Fighting Seabees

Hatari and the old Westerns with him are all lonely great.
The ones he made himself, well.
His outstanding role in "The searchers" is without example.

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is 239 565-8988. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
