We are on our last 4 days of a trip to France. This is our 4th time here.
We have visited Paris again.
Spent a few days in Normandy.
The down to the Loire Valley, Amboise.
Now we are headed to Avignon.
Visited the Beaches at Normandy, roamed about Bayeux.
Amboise again roamed about the town did a couple of wine tastings.
We did experience a first, we had to visit a police station in a foreign county.
Our rental car was towed due to a farmers market opening up on Sunday. The only public parking area, with no signs about no parking due to a farmers market opening on Sundays.
We are headed to Avignon by train, we shall see what that town has to offer.

Is it bad… that I find myself wishing I was hunting in Alaska or Africa?

I note your last sentence first

No love for Aussie or what?

The first part

You do the crime you do the time I’m sorry to say
Yes go hunting I say even if it’s not in Aussie lol

Cheers

I think you should be hunting in africa!!

I think I would have booked three days of hunting roe deer to go along with the pure tourist thing - lovely country setting where your spouse can pillage the local villages.

That would be a damn sight better than France.

There has been some pillaging going on.

Australia is on the list.
This trip was a compromise. My wife wanted a trip back to Paris before our next trip to Africa in 27.
Gotta do what ya gotta do.

The tourist scene is not for me. Kinda strange considering I'm a retired NPS ranger. I liked helping tourists as a job. Just never liked being one. Yes, I'm complicated.

I can one up you.

I just landed in Italy to spend a week and a half during which I’ll be getting married.

And all I can think of is my next international flight will take me to Zimbabwe in 77 days.

Excited for the wedding but also excited for Africa.

Isn't the Loire Valley known for red & fallow deer and wild boar? That would have been very nice. Or at least a day of upland birds and hares.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope it works out for you.

We’ve been together nearly a decade. She knows. I was showing her pictures from the PH on the plane. She said “you’re getting excited, your nerd is showing.”

I did a quick search before I left, the only thing that appeared to be in season was Mouflon. Ram hunting doesn’t do much for me.
After driving in Paris it seems to be open season on scooters.

It is, but those are more fall hunts.

Right now it is Roebuck season in Europe

My late wife called it my "Bernie." I never asked why. She sure did know how to get his attention. Damn, I miss her.

this is the solution my wife and I came up with..

we spend 3-4 days playing tourist.. and then we spend 3-4 days at a lodge somewhere in the woods/mountains/etc hunting..

that formula has worked great for us in Argentina, Peru, Ireland, New Zeland, and a host of other places.. we even applied it on an Idaho elk hunt a few years back.. we took our time getting to Idaho (drove) and hit touristy spots each day between Texas and Idaho.. then spent 5 days chasing elk before returning home..

We'll be doing the same thing in Croatia in September.. about half our trip will be spent touring the country and the other half at the hunting lodge, hunting..

thankfully the wife is a hunter and genunienly enjoys the time in the field.. but she also loves pillaging local villages, eating local cuisine, checking out landmarks and historical places, etc..etc.. so split vacation/hunts will be the norm for us pretty much everywhere we go other than Africa from this point forward..

But apparently not France. Just googled and they do not open until 1 June.

Oh really, that's a surprise for me...
There is even a German term for it "Maibockjagd" (literally the hunt for the May buck)
In Belgium, Germany, Austria, it is definitely a thing. Bizarre that in France it would be later.
