Have you used him? If so, what was the project? How long did it take? Do you recommend him?

Any other thought?

I learned about Dennis Olson from reading an article on Realguns.com on a conversion project on a CZ550 FS in 9.3mm to 375 Ruger.

Dennis did the conversion for me on a Win M70 Super Grade in 300 RUM to 404 Jeffery. I ordered the barrel from Krieger and that took 8 months. Once Dennis received the barrel, he completed his work in about 2 months. I am very happy with the rifle and will use Dennis again.

I have seen several rifles he has built and all were very nice. I asked a buddy of mine that lives near him his opinion and I will let you know what he says. I believe he has a couple of his rifles

Dennis is one of the few gunsmiths willing to make a bolt action in .22 Savage Hi Power :) He is a big fan of pre 64 Winchester actions and the Kwik clip device

He just built a 404 Jeffery for me on a Model 70 Classic action (originally 375 H&H). It is a full out custom with a Douglas barrel, NECG sights, Sunny Hill bottom metal and a custom English walnut stock that Dennis carved. I am very pleased with the result and will be taking it to Africa next year. The project did take about a year, but was worth waiting for. His prices are very reasonable compared to other custom smiths. PM me if you would like to discuss further.

I’ve been wanting to lightly customize my m70 375, just cut the barrel to 22” and install a banded front sight and classic express rear sight. Maybe open the scope base screws to a size larger. Would he take such a small job?

Been to Plains once, years ago. Love the area, couldn't get the family too enthused about it though..:rolleyes:o_O:eek::cry:

Just went to Plains yesterday. My rifle is complete. The action felt smoother and better timed than many I have felt in the store. I’m not sure if he worked on that, but possibly.

Work performed:
Cut barrel to 22”, crown and install barrel band front sight
Bed action to stock
Rechamber to 458 Lott and perform any feed work required
Replace rear sight with safari type NECG sight insert with 1 folding leaf and 1 fixed leaf
Adjust lop and replace the recoil pad with thicker one
Adjust trigger to crisp 3lb pull

All work performed looked good and he was friendly to meet. Obviously the gun needs shot to really know how it turned out. The trigger was amazing!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
