How has Everyone’s Hunting Season at Home been?

Well my Dad is still getting it done at 78 years of age. He’s a real killer with his little NEF Handi-Rifle in .243 Win. The buck was standing right in front of my trail cam when Dad shot him so I’ll let the pics tell the story!

Punched my tag yesterday. Good buck but honestly thought he was bigger. They were going in the rut and I should've spent more time looking him over as I had 3 more days to hunt.
But super happy the way things turned out.
Family went 100% on public land deer this year. 8 bucks and 1 doe.

Maybe that's one of the things that keeps him young!
I sure hope so. Hard to believe that in a year and a half he’ll be 80. Time gets more precious the older your parents get.

I don't know if truer words have ever been said Buddy. Our time with our parents is precious. That we didn't know that at a much younger age.

Took a good size doe this evening with my #1 416 Remington Magnum. Load was 300 gr TSX at 2712 fps with IMR 4166. Shot was around 65 yards, entered behind front shoulder and exited tight to the offside shoulder. She made it about 20 yards downhill before crashing. Very happy with this bullet today, seemed to expand very well on 110-120 lb whitetail.

We have had a ton of fun so far with the limited time we’ve had between clients.

Saw him about seventy five yards down the creek bottom working his way towards me. Crossbow on the ready, he zoomed in on the scent balls I had hanging. Twenty yard shot, he walked roughly a hundred yards before dropping. He went to the share the harvest program here in PA. Doe tags yet to fill.

My wife had a heck of a season this year. After getting a beautiful mule deer buck on November 12, we turned our attention to whitetails. There was a particular wide 5x5 that she was focused on, however yesterday morning a mature 4x4 appeared in front of us. She was unsure what to do as it wasn’t her target buck and had less points. Without telling her to shoot, I impressed on her that the body size of this buck was absolutely huge and it made his antlers look smaller. As he was walking away she finally decided to take him, so I managed to stop him and she put a Barnes through his heart. I’ve seen a lot of big-bodied whitetails in my time but I believe this buck takes the prize. He was enormous!

It’s difficult to show his size from my cell phone camera but look at the depth of his chest and shoulders.

I’m 6 feet tall and about 285 pounds and this buck makes me look average size!

Now I just have to find one for myself.

Congratulations! That's a MONSTER! (Glad I'm not dragging it out).

Well its been a bit of a different season so far. My son took a nice mature 7 pt during muzzleloader season. It was special because his 7yr old son was with him in the blind. I got 2 coyotes during muzzleloader season and passed several bucks.
Fast forward to gun season last week, I was able to take a nice 11 pt with one broken off from fighting I had been seeing on pictures all year, one of three really good mature deer. My son-in law was able to go out just a couple of sits for his first deer and took my other 7 yr old grandson. After passing on a couple of smaller bucks this one came out at 40 yds and he was able to take him with his grandfather's gun. At that point I texted both of them that the does, coyotes racoons and armadillos better beware because I was free to shoot anything. I have identified 6 does that all had twins this year, plus lots more that had singles. I have already taken two does this week so I have donated over 300 lbs of meat to our local hunters against hunger. I can take two more this week and two more during the late December season. Nice to see the next two generations getting interested and being successful.

I think that I may have gotten your deer's twin brother today.

Both awesome deer but I really love that heavy, narrow buck!

The last deer I shot in the UK were in August.

On Fallow opening day a few of us went to a friend's in laws farm to take a few prickets. I was fortunate to take two after a short stalk from my high seat and dropped them in the same field.

The last deer I took was a particular Roe buck that had been a challenge for several weeks.
He had outsmarted me, knew where he was safe and had been keeping me awake at night.
One evening when everything had worked against me, my final attempt to outwit him, I did.

Hopefully now the Fallow rut is over, I'll find my way to some bigger bucks. I also saw Muntjac on the piece of ground I shoot on for the first time this year. Maybe if the buck is a nice one I'll try for him.

Me too! Here's a picture of him from last year...View attachment 377487

WOW!! I think I would be finding a taxidermist to sew on a long tail and some ears......Hard to pass that up.
Hopefully I can find him next year and get an arrow in him! Love those tall narrow racks!
