Greetings AH,

New member but I've been lurking around here for a bit. In the time I've been reading around here I've learned a few things:
1. Telling your wife you will just go to Africa once and "get it out of your system" can turn out to be problematic upon return from RSA.
2. The once daunting recoil of a .375 H&H quickly disappears when you realize what you get to do with it.
3. A lack of wall space for taxidermy is a rapidly compounding problem.
4. A "friend" who suggests your first Africa trip is really just a Pied Piper who was lonely hunting by himself.
5. Africa really is a special place. Spoken as a rookie I can say it does take a hold. Anyone reading this...do not put off planning a trip for "one day". Make it happen. You won't regret it.

My Africa history is brief. So far one fantastic trip to Limpopo for plains game. Loved. Every. Bit. Of. It. Planning a trip to Matetsi in Zimbabwe in 2026. Buffalo and eland and probably a few other things. Recently got aforementioned .375. A new-not-fired CZ550. Currently working on reloading 300gr TSXs and A-Frames for it. I've seen a great thread on the Swift powder suggestions. Would love same on the Barnes. Everyone have a great evening and thanks for all that you share on here.

:S Welcome:
Looks like you will fit right in!

A few replies to your list, but before I forget, welcome to AH!

1. My wife figured out that BS line by dinner time the evening after our first day of hunting. But it gets worse, she ended up shooting an impala on the very last day. And just like that after trying to get her to hunt with me for some 19 years, I now had a huntress on my hands. The expense has greatly risen.

2. It's really not that bad and easy to break yourself into. Start with lighter projectiles and loads and work yourself up. Be sure to square up the rifle to your shoulder when shooting off the bench. If you're all hunched over you minimizing the area in contact with your shoulder. Instead of lowering yourself to the rifle by hunching over, raise the rifle. Seems obvious when you think about it, but it makes a big difference if you've never done it because you're use to shooting .30-06 or somewhere there about.

3. Truth, I have no solution for that that doesn't involve potential spousal conflict and/or money.

4. We are a community of Pied Pipers here.

5. You're now a Pied Piper too, welcome to the club! :-)

Oh and my M70 loves 300gr A-Frames with IMR4350 if that helps get you started. In fact it loves Barnes and NorthFork bonded cores in the same weight but with slightly different charges of the same powder.

Again, welcome to AH!

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. I look forward to learning about and participating in what appears to be a common cult...I mean passion. :)

Thank you Phil. All helpful. My bride hasn't picked up a rifle in 30 years. I think my wallet is safe...from that possibility at least. Be well!

Hello and welcome!

Welcome aboard from a fellow Georgian. You’ll find lots of helpful folks here with a tremendous amount of knowledge regarding big bore rifles, hunting Africa and many other topics.

Which Matesi unit will you be hunting? I was in unit 2 last September and had a great hunt there. If I can answer any questions just shoot me a PM and I’ll be glad to help anyway that I can.

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
